Worst Christmas gift ever
What is the worst gift you have ever recieved for Christmas? You know, the kind where you have to make a bluff check before writing a thankyou note. Let's hear them all!
For me it was a fuzzy pillow shaped like a bunny rabbit with pocket to store your pajamas. I got it in high school. I think my great-aunt pictures me as eternally 4 or 5 years old. Sigh.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
None, all were great because the intention behind them was good.

Your name wouldn't happen to be Ralphie, would it?
Oh boy, worst Christmas presents ... there is a long line of dreadful shirts and sweatshirts that my mom has gotten me over the years. I don't think there's been a single one that ever made it out of the house except to go to the Salvation Army. (And I felt bad that some poor soul would have to wear it since they couldn't afford anything else). Those, collectively, would have to be it.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I dunno probably a notebook for school. I mean who wants to get a present that they will use for school.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I got a really horrible brown, itchy, knitted sweater one year from my Grandma.
Succeded my bluff check though :smalltongue:

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I think the worst present is to get something that you are really happy for, and then get it stolen.
Haven't ahppened with me, but with one I know.
Who the heck would steal t-shirts anyway?

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
The army wants to see me one day after christmas to see if I should join them. That's a bad present.:smalleek:

When I was in about 6th grade, we had a class party with a grab bag for gifts. I got a great one, a nice box filled with miniature Reese's peanut butter cups. I left it on my chair while doing the other party stuff, and when I came back, someone had eaten every single one of the Reese's. They did leave me the empty box and all the little crumpled-up wrappers, though.
Yeah, that's pretty much a low point. :smalleek:

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
It wasn't just for me:
My aunt and uncle and cousins came over to exchange gifts (they're rich but give notoriously cheap gifts). I got a keychain and matching pleather wallet. My brother got the same.
My dad, on the other hand, is in military and served in Iraq a couple of years ago. That year, he got back just in time for Christmas (which was awesome), and received three little ceramic female soldiers that had the Dollar Store "3 for $1" stickers still on the bottoms. :smallsigh:

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Voila! The perfect song for this topic. A friend of mine and I shouted for them to play this song in concert and the band busted out laughing on stage. The lead singer's response was "Sir, I wrote that song so I'd never have to wear it or play it ever again."
Grandma's Christmas Shirt
By the Goodyear Pimps
Every year my grandma would make me a handmade shirt for Christmas. It'd come wrapped in the Sunday funnies and if I seemed unappreciative my dad would shoot me a look across a crowded room hot enough to buuuuurn chestnuts...
*cue music*
And so I'd open it with dread
And pull that shirt over my head
That turtle-neck was chokin' me
Man, it had different colored sleeves!
The front was orange and brown and green
With fuscia stripes laid in between
It's just the way she shows she cares
But still I'm forced to wear my
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so bad!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so bad!
She don't feel so bad now
Oooooh she don't feel so bad, yo!
Awww she don't feel so bad now
uh-uh
And so I'd stand up in the den
Stick out my arms and take a spin
My cousin laughed until he peed
Even my grandpa laughed at me
She sewed a pocked for my pens
Now I can never show my friends
My aunt would kiss me on the cheek
And say I looked so neat in
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so bad!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so bad!

Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so bad!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feelin's hurt!
GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS SHIRT!
Wear it so you don't make her feel so.... bad!

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Unfortunately, that song is pretty close to the truth. My Grandma has well... THAT sense of style... she loves sweatshirts with big bright poinsettia flowers on it, or paisley, or some other appalling combination. Now... on a Grandma, they look good! But not really on a 15 year old.
I remember one year my two younger brothers got these AWESOME tshirts... they were scratch and sniff shirts! yes, I said scratch and sniff... as you wore them, they'd warm up, and you'd rub em and they'd smell like oranges... or whatever. This was during the same time as those colorchanger shirts that changed colour with your bodyheat. Anyway, they got that, and I got a white sweatshirt with poinsettias on it.
Fortunately, as I got older, and especially after i got married and moved, she just would send me a check and say "buy yourself something you need". That worked a LOT better. *grin*

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
A package of bath supplies containing "strawberries and cream" scented bath gel and lotion.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Well, I once got a pokémon colouring book. That wouldn't be such a problem, but I was way too old for colouring books when I got it. And I was actually expecting something good, as the people giving it were pretty darn rich, so I was pretty dissapointed.
I still pretended I liked it though, god knows why...

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I don't think I've ever gotten a bad present, per se, but one time my aunt sent me a Barney the Dinosaur christmas card.
I was 11, I think. She also sent one to my older brother, who would've bitten her head off if she did it in person...

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I've had a lest-satisfying gift given. I gave my little stepbrother a superman guide, and he just said "Oh."

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Being Russian and having a birthday that's very, very close to Christmas doesn't help very much when it comes to getting gifts on Christmas. Or on my birthday for that matter. You see, people tend to think I got tons of gifts for the other event and not give me anything.
My friend is right now broke and looking for a present for his girlfriend, who's also broke. My solution? Have each give the other 50 bucks. Or whatever they think they can afford. A couple of checks for $1,000,000 would work just as well and make the presents that much more special.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Great grandmother keeps giving me 50 piece puzzles. At least when I turned 18 she started giving me scratch and lose lottery games...

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Grade 6. Family Christmas Reunion. Each family member(kid-wise) only gets one present. Period. I got a roll of paper... for lack of anything better. My aunt's standing there, saying Merry Christmas!

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
A $5 CHECK from my aunt and uncle.
....
....
seriously.
I would've said 'hey, it's money', but somehow sending someone a five dollar check seems umm...well...wrong.
It beat out the sweater my g-ma got me. It was red with a giant white heart in the middle. At least I knew deep down she was trying.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Trog,
That song is amazing! I think everyone has recieved an unwearable shirt from a relative at one time or another.
I just remembered a terrible gift. My other half recieved a "dresser valet" from his mom AKA a jewelry box. She said it was to store his "watch and knick knacks." He owns one watch, one ring, and one pair of glasses - all of which he is wearing all the time. So, he really didn't need or want a mans jewelry box. And it was obviously expensive so it meant he didn't get many other gifts. I'm still not sure why she thought he would want/need one.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
Can't say I've had certifiably bad ones; plenty of sweaters that I never wear because, well, I'm not a fan of them.
I still say that the ultimate cover-all gift is a NERF gun, you can't go wrong with one of those.

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
right now I'm drawing a blank on the worst Christmas gift I've ever gotten. But I certainly know what the best one is...My dog of 13 years (who was 2 months old when we got her).

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I got a puppy once... The box didn't have airholes. :smallfrown:
(Just kidding, no puppy abuse going on here)

Re: Worst Christmas gift ever
I used to get grumpy about my presents when I was younger. I am a rather particular person in my tastes. Generally if I decide I want something it is after much thought and consideration of the options and other things available. This was a cause of much of my present angst when I was younger. Like the time I asked for an RC car and got instead a barbie wire controlled car. (I was never much of a girly girl. )
However, over time, my views on getting gifts has changed. This is partly because I have seen how hard it is to know exactly what people want when you are giving a gift, and how disappointing it is when a gift isn't well received. My parents just didn't know (even though I had pointed out one in a catalog), and they worked very hard to get me exactly what I wanted. I feel bad now that I made such a fuss over it.
Also, I guess I have become less materialistic, stuff matters to me less now then it once did.
