[SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Okay. Honestly, I think you knew this one was coming. And honestly, I think it could be really awesome.
So, I propose we take some time to set up a Star Wars universe in FFRP.
Now, some things we'll need to cover first.
-Time frame
-Locations
-Races
-Plot
-Character types/limits
With the character limits thing, my biggest issue is that everybody will want to make a crapload Jedi/Sith, and that's all we'll have. Honestly, I don't think that'll be good. So, I propose that for every force-user you make, you should make a non-force-user. It could be the screaming Wookie of doom if you want.
Another things we should focus on is making it a little more plot-driven. Because the Star Wars universe is ridiculously huge. We need something to shrink it somewhat.
So, I hereby kick off this discussion thread!
May the Force be with you!
-------------------------------------
Things we've worked out so far:
Races:
Spoiler
Show
Pretty much every race can be played. Common ones being humans, Twi'leks, Zabrak, and so on. If you want to come up with a race of your own, please post a description here first and wait for approval. Always good to let people pick at an idea till it's clean and ready to go. Also, same with some "out-of-the-ordinary" character choices.
Time Period
Spoiler
Show
Shortly after the events of KOTOR II. Masters still take on multiple apprentices, and Jedi are still allowed to marry.
Location
Spoiler
Show
The system that contains Nar Shadaa, which will be regarded as the central location of everything.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I think that this should be set in The Old Republic, but thats just my opinion because it maximizes available character types.
As for locations, I think that there should be some Nar Shadda locations, some Desert/forest/nature settings, and some bustling citiy planets.
I think some of the races should be human (obviously), zabrak, twi'lek, yoda things, and those cool kamino dudes. They would make some kickass bounty hunters.:smallwink::smallbiggrin:
Maybe a plot based on some lost treasure/base/person of interest/ other important object/race?
I pretty much agree on this part.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I was thinking Old Republic era as well. More freedom on setting up the structure.
I also think Wookies and droids should be playable. Wookies cause they're Wookies. Who can say no to them? Droids because that would probably be interesting to see.
As for plot...I was thinking something along the lines of some group rising to power. Sure, stuff like that's been done before, but it's something to work off of. We can twist it how we want.
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Plot: That could probably work. Good/Evil might be working for or against them. Possibly even both for each side. And Neutral can probably do both as well. But theres a price involved.
Star wars Galxies gives weird ideas: Albino Wookie sith.:smalltongue:
Also, I was thinking no big army commander charcters unless played by GM/controller of plot. Too much power.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I'm not making any force characters. I like guys with big ol' guns blowin the living crap out of 99% of the population, considering Jedi and Sith are pretty rare.
I agree with previous ideas of what it should be.

However, Jedi and sith aren't rare in the Old Republic. Both still have their whole empires.:smallwink:

Hey, if the man picks rockets over lightsabers, that's fine. To each their own.
I agree with the command characters. They'll be picked by the plot, for the plot.

Then my gunslinger will know parkour and have a jetpack. Problem solved.:smalltongue::smallbiggrin:

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
What we need is a villain who can be independent of both sides. Someone in the gray, an opponent to both sides of the force. Like Kreia.

Thats what the neutral bountyhunter/mercenary option is for.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I'm kind of partial to the extremist good guy. The guy who means well, but just does it completely wrong.
Doesn't have to be a Jedi, either. Could be a guy with a lot of political power.
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
First of all: Yes. So much.
Second: My opinion. I think that the Old Republic settings could lead to more Jedi and Sith roaming around, and that would be awesome. Maybe we could restrict it to a heavily populated planet, a large trading post, or a hive of scum and villainy?
Any other suggestions?
Also, class-wise suggestions: Maybe something like this. Of course, it doesn't have to be that bounty hunters are bad, or smugglers are good, or soldiers are good.
You know.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I almost swore to myself that I'd stick to the Nexus...
But...
It's Star Wars...
And Kurfuffle...
I really don't have a bloody choice.
Well to adress the Jedi/Sith problem.
There weren't actually that many of them in the first place.
Because the Jedi training stuff is so absurdly rigorous and dangerous and besides they only go to places with strict orders and will not deviate from their goal.
There's not many rogue jedi and doesn't make sense for there to be many.
___
As for a villain how about just some big business guy who has a private army.
Like Nute Gunnray with the Trade Federation.
And just sorta will kill anyone in the way.
Or take anyone willing to join him/her/it.
Or even someone in the senate who just disagrees with everything and takes a splinter group blah blah blah.
Like some commander of Republic Forces goes rogue and does what he does.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Okay, I know we're not supposed to advertise, but hey, this is kind of relevant right here. :smalltongue:
While I don't think I'm necessarily going to take part in this game (even if I want to, stupid lack of time), I figured I should bring attention to a forum-wide Star Wars free-form RPG that me and a few friends have been running for the past year or so; Star Wars Year 41: Unity. While it's not based in the Old Republic era, which this game seems to be heading, I still suggest some of you poking around here give it a look.
Just one word of advice: If you're interested, try to read the game history. It takes place in an alternate universe with some pretty big changes to canon, so it can be a little confusing to new players. :smalltongue:

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Yay! My presence draws people in! I'm a bug zapper!
Anywho, I don't think we should have a plot that is too much of a copy of the movies. Or one of the games. Take some stuff here and there, sure. But, overall, I think we should try to make a kind of original plot.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Can...can I play a Gungan?
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I think I'm going to use Jim from this comic for inspiration.

Well, maybe. Depends on if we decides Gungans should be playable.
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Well, Droids and Wookies are a go, so unless they don't exist yet, it's not really a balance issue. Now if I asked if I could play a Hutt.:smallwink:

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I'd like to play a rich guy who owns a space yacht and employs a small band of bounty hunters as personal defense...>.>

My theorectical gunslinger could be one of the bounty hunters, at least for a bit.

Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
So what else needs to be figured out fuffle?
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Well, I guess we should start getting more of the details laid out. Pick the worlds we're using, the races, that stuff. And try to get at least the basics of the plot going.

I could keep track of the stuff. Like the races.
Anyone want to have a vote? Like, to see if we can have certain races or whatnot?
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
I'm going to vote for the two races I would like to use: Kaminoans and Twileks.
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
We need to have Tattoine as a planet, as well as Naboo. Did I miss anything?
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Narshadda should be a planet. I like it too much.
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
Well, hold on. Let's see about getting a voting system set up. Make it a little smoother than random posts.
Let's see...how about we give a day of everybody suggesting as many races as they want. Then, the next day, we set up a list of what was suggested, and then take a day to vote. Number of votes people get depends on the number of races. After a day, tally the votes, and maybe the top six get it, or maybe whichever ones get a certain number of votes.
Something like that.
Sound good?
-
Re: [SWitp] Star Wars: Setup and discussion #1
This sounds like it could end up being pretty cool. I might join in.
That's...really all I have to say.
