Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Hel because due to the low amount of her Clerics, I'd be very important to her.

Freyr. He's basically their Hermes and I'm a freelance translator, a trade that relies on luck by its nature.
-
Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Loki, because it's (always) his birthday.
Go Loki, go!

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
I'm torn between Odin, Frigg and Loki.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Odin one eye, Odin greatfather hehe
I'd also want a raven too

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Logic be damned, praise Hel! I love the way she plays the game, it's like a combo deck

I'm pretty sure she is Freya.
Odin seems like a pretty cool guy.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Can't decide between Odin (big boss and god of magic), Hel (goddess of death and just plain cool), or Sif (goddess of earth).
-
Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Odin, Freya, or Thor. Odin seems like he has a pretty level head, and with all Thor's wackiness early on, he does seem to take really good care of his followers when he can. Freya for personal reasons.

Freya seems to be a blond goddess judging by 274. So the black curley haired fertility goddess must be a demi-god. (I don't see any reason why someone should not worship a demi-god, but we just don't know much about them.) Maybe she is focussed on hedgerow fertility or something like that. Also Thor would have known what Freya looked like.
Anyway assuming gods look like their high priests, I really think all the gods are pretty cool. If I had to pick my current favourite, well, I could not tell you because I would have to keep it a secret.

Fenrir. Monsters are awesome.

The black-haired goddess would be Sif, since she's the only one described as such. And Thor knocked her up a couple times in the sagas.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Clearly the Goddess of Wisdom -- apart from the intangible benefits, only thus could my sacred acclamation be: "Oh Frigg!"

Heh, nice!

Sif is Thor's wife, and is also has literally golden hair. I would argue that the fertility goddess is likely a demigod of fertility (like Goddess of Spring or something).

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Well, technically speaking, when you whorship a polytheistic pantheon, you whorship ALL the Gods in it.
Now if I had to pick one to serve as it's cleric... well, first I should have to figure out my own alignment, then pick a God or Godess who is not more than one step far from it.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
I'd choose Odin. Out of all the gods, he seems to be the only one with truly transcendent knowledge.
-
Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
My take on the knocked up goddess is that it's Sif. She's described as a "fertility goddess", not "the Goddess of Fertility", and Sif's purview as the "Goddess of Earth" most likely overlaps with Freya's fertility shtick to some extent. The Norse Sif was certainly associated with fertility, after all. Plus, the joke establishes a parallel between the Katos and Thor, i.e. it's about pregancy before marriage/shotgun weddings, so it doesn't make as much sense if Thor didn't actually marry that goddess - just like the Thor from the myths is described as Sif's husband.

Given what other people have said in this thread, it does seem more likely that it was Sif than Freya.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Well, it really depends whether or not, and how, their portfolios come into play in this world. Would there be benefits, or is it just a case of which concept you do like most? I'm answering the latter.
I went through them all and contemplated what I find most interesting in each of them. Hoder seems like a cool guy, he's not only covering winter I guess. Still, a good winter is better and more refreshing than an awful late autumn. Sunna is okay for a while, but she offers too much warmth and light for me to feel comfortable in the long run. Freyr and Freya do have very obvious advantages, but I'm neither greedy nor, ahem, that procreative, so I believe I wouldn't shape my life to their teachings.
So, on first glance, I was going for Frigg (Wisdom) or Odin (Knowledge/Magic). Many people seek enlightment, I'm a bit of a bookworm. But then I stumbled over her. Sif is a very solid choice, too! I guess there might be some dirty work involved when worshipping her, but soil/earth is a wonderful thing. Without Sif, Freya has nothing to offer. Go, SIF!
I could describe how I stand with the rest of the bunch, but I think the OP question is answered.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Thor, all the way.
Mainly because there's a chance He could make me look like Chris Hemsworth, as opposed to real life...
Also, worshiping Thor seems to consist of going out and hitting things with big hammers, then eating and drinking a lot with beautiful women afterwards. The R-Complex in my brain likes this kind of life. All metaphysical concepts are reduced to "Do I hit it, eat it, drink it, or make love to it?"
Go, Thor!! :smallcool:

Duh, Balder? Goddess of beauty? Think of all the hot priestesses.

I must be misunderstanding something...where does that comic say that goddess is Freya?

I thought Balder was a god of light (corrected myself, I thought it was beauty too, then I looked it up on the Wiki)? Or is Balder a goddess in OOTS world?

According to strip 999, Balder is neither god of light nor goddess of beauty, but god of beauty.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Maybe Fenrir.... or Freyr or Loki. Either of the three depending on whose alignment I am closer to of those three. Hopefully, I one of the three would like a CN worshipper.

In the myths, Sif originally had golden hair, but then it all had to be sheared off because of one of Odin's many bad bets (it's probably a metaphor for reaping grain, as she's a grain goddess). And then no more hair would grow, so they had to have Loki trick the dwarves into making her some magic hair (but the dwarves made it out of iron, rather than gold, so it's now black).
Really, it is amazing how often in Norse myth you run into the plot Odin/Thor does something stupid, Loki has to pull their chestnuts out of the fire. Maybe I should read up on Slavic mythology and see if there's the same deal going on with Perrin and Valaz.
Anyway, on topic, I'd really rather not do it, but because of how long my family's made our living sailing the seven seas I probably have some kind of ancestral blood oath to serve Njord.

Re: If you had to worship one god of the Northern pantheon....
Oh, and I'd probably worship Skadi, if only because I can get with his reason for voting to destroy the world. That's really some of the very little characterization we have of the gods in this comic, so it's what I'm basing my decision on.

There seems to be some rule that high priests take on the traits of their god. This visibly holds for Odin, Sif, Hodor, Fenrir, Tyr, Heimdall. That goodess really does look just like the high priest of Freya. BTW this implies that the high priestess of Thor is a lot of fun to be around in the pub.
