Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
After several blocks of fruitless tracking, Lyral, stymied by the lack of traceable evidence, pauses to think. He moves to the side of the busy morning market, leaning up against a wall.
Hmm. If the killer employed dark magic, as the others suggested, and they had the ability to cover their tracks, there must be some reason why they went after Dagoc. I cannot simply knock on doors, but what I can do is inquire. This is hardly an empty wilderness. I will need to make inquiries here, to gather any information I can regarding individuals of power. I also have a face to match up with any rumors... Not an ideal starting point, but it's better than nothing, I suppose. His mind made up, Lyral accosts the nearest citizen with all the restrained force he can muster.
"Point me to the nearest guild or tavern, please."

Lia
I'm a bit baffled by the sudden speed of events... First Halaza stopped being hostile (good), only to start following Tarmikos around with an expression akin to a dazed and confused puppy dog (weird), Lyral stormed out after Tarmikos refused to cough up any more details (frankly agree), Tarmikos then left to look for Jorah whom I met last night, only to immediately reappear (coincidence!), and Kel transformed into a dog and back (druids:smallamused:). And now Jorah would like permission to cast a spell on the dead.
"Um, sure... Go right ahead."

This was clearly done by an unholy blade of great power.
The holy symbol is of Bacchus, god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine.

"Well, the closest tavern." He gives you directions to such a place towards the center of town.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Algrith was about to follow Imaran when Jorah pipes in.
<I wonder what kind of magic he is referring to?> he thinks to himself.
Stepping back from the body, he takes his notebook out and proceeds to write down details of who is there, their respective reactions, and some details on the spells being cast.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
'I wonder why the woman -Lia, perhaps?- looks at me so strangely when I ask this? Has she not seen a cleric Speak with Dead before?'
Jorah waits for a moment for any objections, and proceeds to produce his holy symbol from within his pack. "It has occurred to me that a badly damaged corpse, such as this, may not answer entirely correctly. As such, it is best that we formulate our questions very carefully. I lack the power to ask more than three questions of this corpse. I will ask the first, but should any of you have things you must know, then please, tell me now."
After finishing his explanations, Jorah begins to cast.

Speak with Dead has a casting time of ten minutes, so anyone who has questions they want to ask should tell Jorah during that period. Assuming no one else has questions they need asking, Jorah will ask "Dagoc, you have been slain by a man wielding a powerfully magical evil weapon. What can you tell me of this man's appearance and weapon?

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Hopefully your efforts will be as fruitful as ours... hopefully more so... Tarmkios thought about Lyral. Then again, the chance that you might find someone, rather than some thing, certainly wouldn't be odds I'd gamble on, at least not now....
"Ask the Corpse?" Tarmikos wondered outloud, as he strode over to Jorah. "You can do that?"
His face was concerned, but he smiled all the same. "If Dagoc did manage to struggle against his killer, then he could tell us what to look for... looks like luck is not against us today!"
-
Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Imaran turned back, hearing Jorah enter. Interesting. He has some powers of Necromancy. Perhaps we could ask what they spoke of. As far as I have been following this, he spoke with the murderer for a good bit before they came to blows.
-
Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Algrith smiled at Imaran.
Clever, clever, clever... he mumbled to himself.
-
Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
"If the conversation doesn't give us any good clues over it, and there are no further questions, I would just as soon ask why he was targeted for murder. If there's anything that might have drawn the eye of someone evil to him. This definitely wasn't a random act. Dagoc was specifically picked for this. Or so I assume." Tarmikos replies, his arms crossed.
-
Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Jorah completes his spell and begins his questioning of the corpse of Dagoc. "Dagoc, you have been slain by a man wielding a powerfully magical evil weapon. What can you tell me of this man's appearance and weapon?"
He momentarily addresses the rest of the people in the room "I will ask the questions you wish momentarily, Imaran, Tarmikos. With luck, he will tell us something useful." He turns back to the partially animated corpse and awaits a response.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Jorah, not understanding this answer, wondering privately if this is due to the state of the corpse, proceeds to ask his next question. "In the time before your death, what, if anything, did you and your killer speak of?"

"He wanted to know the location of another, which he did not receive."

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Annoyed, but not surprised, at the answers he received, but believing that to ask what he had intended as his final question would be a moot point, Jorah inquires, "In the event that his purpose for contacting and eventually slaying you was that of searching for an individual either in this room or one that you believe may be known to one of the individuals in this room, who was the individual either searched for or knowing the individual searched for?"

I apologize for not asking why he killed him, but I assume that the answer about searching for a person was sufficient as a response to this. I intentionally made the above question as airtight as I could, yet somehow doubt I will get a useful response.

After nodding to the citizen in thanks, Lyral makes his way through the streets of Cleveport, towards the inn at the center of town. Stopping outside the front doors, he surveys the scene, looking for anything unusual.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Contemplating the answers of the dead man, Jorah wonders to himself, 'Silver hair..... Tarmikos searched for someone, speaking with Dagoc. I wonder if this is the man he spoke of?'
Aloud, he speaks, breaking the momentary silence after the cessation of the spell. "Tarmikos? Do you have any insight into the matter you could share with us?"

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Kel immediately glances over at Tarkimos, Okay, well you might want to explain who you are hunting. They might be hunting you. Though this might not be the exact person you are hunting. He might have hired a hit man to attempt to kill you. Of course I don't know his personality at all so I can't answer if I would do that.
Also I have to state the results of my search. I definitely picked up the murderer's scent at the crime scene. It happens to stop outside the tavern. He could have either cast a spell to conceal his smell and tracks or he simply used a spell to teleport away.

It seems rather calm. Perhaps news of the murder has not yet reached this point?

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Tarmikos does not respond. His gaze is fixated on the body, though for no purpose than it being where he was watching before. His sight is focused inward.
His entire being shakes with rage. His teeth are so grit with anger, that blood traces the corners of his lips. His fists are gripped so tightly, the bones in his knuckles can be heard cracking. His eyes are slit, a look of sheer malice burned into his expression.
After a moment, he speaks, his voice filled with hatred. "Jorah. Is that all your magic can tell us? Is that the last Dagoc has to say?"
-
Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
"Dagoc can tell us no more - at least for a week - but I have more magics I can use to attempt to find this man. I will need incense and an offering to cast a more powerful magic, but it is capable of informing us about how to find this man."

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Latinskel returns, bringing a dwarven woman with him. The dwarven women asks "What spells have been cast here so far?"

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Halaza reaches, yer hand grasping tightly on Tarmikos' shoulder.
Calm yourself your emotional outbreaks are not helping us.
She releases her grip.
Now tell us, is the silverhaired on of Dragonblood?
Her words filled with cold steel,
The edge of anger returning to them.
Patience running low at his anger and his refusal to answer her questions.

"That should work... Latinskel, go and get..." but Latinskel runs off before the dwarf can finish.
"OK then... well let's give this a try."
She begins a spell. Moments later "Apparently there is such an blade a good way north of here. I think it is in the market place."

"DAMN IT!" Tarmikos roars as he punches the floor beneath him.
"That BASTARD!" He growls, struggling to maintain coherence, all but lost in his rage. "It CAN'T be Chance! It's Him!"
"He's Here! Cruorin's Here! In this City! He's HERE!"
His other fist comes crashing downward. "Three Years of looking for you, and I've finally found you! And you're here, still killing innocent lives! Cruorin!"
"Why! Why, Damn it, Why!?! Why do these people need to die? You Monster! When will you stop, Cruorin!?!" Blood, sweat, and tears decorate Tarmikos' shadow.
"What could you have possibly wanted with me that would have made this worth it?! Why did Dagoc have to die? Why do you keep killing people!?! Damn it, Why, Cruorin! DAMN IT!"
