I think the Succubus was willing to buy something if nothing else came together. I'm not all that much of a baker (at least in my mind) but I'll probably be making some cheese scones to bring along- maybe some herb scones as well.

Okay, that's about an hourish walking or twenty-five minutes by bus.
Fortunately the buses here run forever.
We'll need to arrange times to meet up in the city centre then.
I think that's the one. Odds are I'll probably take a taxi there as soon as I arrive to drop my junk off and grab the keys. Perhaps an exchange of numbers would be a good idea. I have Serp's and Archie's so far.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Phew... I was starting to think I might not be able to make it to Oxford due to having to spend my last $1500 on a ticket back to Australia before then because my application for Jobseeker's Allowance has - rather belatedly :smallannoyed: - been rejected. But my dad has very, very, very kindly offered to cover it (in which case I'd pay him back) if I need to go in a month or so, on the condition that I try REALLY extra super-duper hard to find a job so he doesn't have to.

Note to self- try and bring a spare copy of Milton Keynes local newspaper to meetup- Serpy probably needs the jobs section.

Soon enough they'll start asking me what days I can volunteer at, so if anyone's interested just tell me which days you fancy visiting and I can be free for that.
Just bumping this here. If anyone's intersted, I'm sure you won't regret it.. Expect to hear a lot of this sort of music too, as well as occasionally stumbling across a party full of happy musicians. Oh, and lovely summer weather. That too.

Well, since I'm already oop north, and Durham is 10-15 minutes on a train from Newcastle, I can decide on a whim at the time if I want to come, so I'm not really who you're wanting answers from I guess. Sounds a decent idea though.
We were talking about the possibility of a lengthier Newcastle meetup earlier in the thread, so if we had that during the festival, we could potentially fit in a trip to Durham at some point in our extra-long meetup time.
Actual reason I'm posting: Koorly, those of us staying longer amounts of time in Oxford (So me and Serp at least, possibly others) will obviously have to eat. Just a point to think about, and obviously it'd be cheaper to buy ingredients and cook things (Which I'm perfectly happy to do/help with, and I'll have money). So, yeah, just something to consider, if we might want to plan anything more in advance (As I certainly don't really want to be bringing recipe books with me).

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Well, I can make something for us to nibble on during the day (a sort of rice crispie square/rocky road hybrid of calorific goodness). If you're going to do something in the kitchen one evening, I might be able to whip a cool starter for people. =)

I was planning on being at an RPG con in Milton Keynes on the 10th. Is that the same time as the Oxford thing?

Except you're only there for the weekend. We're definitely going out for a meal on the Saturday, that's in Koorli's itinerary. I guess you could on the Friday if we're not also out for that, but like I said, it's a point of more relevance to the lingerers.

Yes.

There's going to be lingering?

For Serpy darling a trip to the Romance exhibit if she so fancies (it's a free tour of part of the Bod as well), and a trip up Carfax Tower.
See Oxford from above!
And lots of walking.
At some point between Friday and Tuesday some or all of you will be asked to read over my Extended Essay before I submit it.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Note to self: I should really check this board more frequently.
I can almost certainly make it up to Oxford on the 9th or the 10th, although I'm not sure how easy that makes things for Koorly if she has to worry about permits.

Well, just after answers from anyone who fancies turning up. If my presence is required at any point, it'd be useful if I could plan in advance to not be working then. Ah well, we'll see what happens. They still haven't updated the volunteer sheet from last year, so there's time yet.

IIRC, permits were not going to be a thing until we reached ten people? Which we haven't.
How much of her floorspace is still available I'm less sure of. Let's see, definitely staying with Koorly so far we have me, Serp, Archie and possibly LR_33. Three or four people. I guess we might be approaching capacity, though I don't think we're there yet?

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Just need to check something - do we have any snow gods or goddesses in this thread? Because it's looking like it's going to snow again at the mini meet. Perhaps.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
As far as I am aware, the only deities in this thread are me and Koorli, and neither of us have ever claimed any divine influence over the weather.
On the subject of Oxford: Curly, does your aggressive opposition to meeting us at unreasonable hours of the morning extend also to seeing us off at unreasonable hours of the morning? Because that might be the cheapest coach option (Though, the megabus site is being confusing as to where that coach actually leaves from so I might pick a slightly longer and more expensive option to alleviate that doubt). The thought does occur to me that were I to be leaving on the 18th, you said you're leaving to go home before noon, so you might want to be up earlier than usual anyway, but perhaps still not as early as this coach.
Actually, as a general point, would you object to me staying the full duration of the week and leaving just a bit earlier than you on the morning of the 18th? Or would you prefer for us all to have cleared out beforehand to give you a chance to pack and stuff?
On the subject of other mini-meets: More Gilbert & Sullivan! OK, so it's possible I may make it down to Bradford to see Grlump's Iolanthe.
The following week, interested parties should seriously consider coming up to Newcastle to see me in The Gondoliers. I'm playing a lead role, so the show will be excellent. It's on Thursday-Saturday the 29th-31st of March, with a matinee as well as an evening performance on the Saturday. Tickets are £10, which I know is a touch expensive for an amateur production, and for some ridiculous reason (To which, however, I've no desire to be disloyal), students don't count as concessions, but nevertheless I would still encourage people to come see me the show, as I it will be very good.
And then there's this. First professional UK Grand Duke since 1896? Yes please. I really want to go see this, and I would really like it if some of my similarly G&S enthusiastic friends (Grlump, Koorly?) could also come. It would appear that there are only tickets left for the 8th and 9th of April, so we might want to move quickly on this.

Can I say HELL YEAH loud enough. I'm travelling back from Venice (quite apt for the G&S Vibe) on the 8th, staying over in Northampton, then going home Via London on the 9th, so 9th would be good for me!

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Actually, looking at it, it appears that the theatre doesn't have allocated/reserved seats, so anyone who wants to come see The Grand Duke, we can just book separately, and meet up before the performance to get in and sit together.
:elan: Book, book, book, book the tickets to the show!
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Ticket booked for the evening of the 9th.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Alright, I'm now looking at a flight from Glasgow to Birmingham that leaves at 3.25pm on 10/3, and gets in at 4.35pm 10/3 (32gbp). Trains from Birmingham leave every hour, so I'd get to Oxford at 6.14pm (15gbp).
Is it worth bothering to book the train ticket in advance?

I would say so, you'll get some form of discount, which is better than none.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Just a quick question, are there likely to be many games brought to Oxford for over the period?
I can understand that RPG's may not be on offer, but board games and the like might be a different matter...
In my case, I have a couple of decks for the Yugioh TCG assembled, fully compliant with the March 2012 banned/limited/semi-limited lists, and I might be able to track down a couple of other games to bring with me...

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
I'll bring 4 Magic decks if anyone wants to learn how to play. Might also grab a copy of Munchkin as well.
Also - I will have tasties with me.
