Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"Whatever lies inside of this structure is sure to suffer a grizzly fate, and their deaths will be on your hands. This is your last chance to save your allies."
Jasper makes one last attempt to persuade the lizardman, or to at least turn his thought to what lies inside.

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"Listen bub, clearly you got some kind of death wish and I'm happy to be the one to grant it, but I want to know where you came from. See, you weren't strong enough to stop me, not even close, so I wanna find some that can at least make me break a sweat. I wager you got friends that'll want to avenge ya', especially after what I'm about to do, so why not make it fast and point me at 'em. How's that sound?"
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Scoffing at Heather, the Lizardman continues his tirade.
"Your little fair skinned friend here already said you'd have no trouble finding where I came from. So go find it. I'll even point you in the direction."
The MongrelMen have been keeping a wary distance, but they seem rather impressed that you defeated a two headed troll so easily. They are very grateful, even if they can offer little to repay you for saving them.
The Lizardman growls defiantly and turns his head, bringing up an arm to point a bony scaled finger back to the west.
"Go then, if it's a fight you want it is a fight you shall have! Trolls and worse wait for you deeper into the swamp. Just have your pet sniff out our tracks in the muck. Now release me or kill me damn you!"

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Ilmarinen looks down on the writhing lizardman and speaks softly, "I don't believe that you're in any position to give orders."
He is silent for a moment and then a smile comes to his face, ... it isn't a very reassuring smile, Ilmarinen then turns to his companions, and with an apologetic glance at Khrona and Gorm, he says [dwarven]"I'm wondering if it would be a smart idea to take the lizardman back to town? Jasper, perhaps you might have a quite word with Gorm and Khrona as to whether there might be political implications"[dwarven]

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"Was that so hard?"
Heather hisses in the reptile's ear, lightening her pressure on his back. She seems satisfied with her mimicry of the dozens of scarred adventurers she grown up listening to. Suddenly she doubles her force, keeping the captive's face in the muck. "Now keep talking bub. I wanna know what types of goons you've got back at your camp; see if its worth the travel time. Were there hobgoblin prisoners at your camp?"

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Jasper lets out a disappointed sigh. "Well, I hoped it wouldn't come to this, but It looks like we are going to have further conflict with these folks."

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Khrona
Khrona's eyes slowly fade back to their original crystal blue color and her breath comes ragged. Fear and dread streaks her face as she looks towards Ilmarinen.
"I delved into the horrible lizard's mind. I saw an encampment of wood and bone, and in that encampment, I saw a terrifying creature. A giant the likes I have never seen. And I believe that giant might be the cause for this abomination here."
Khrona points towards the two headed troll dead before them. Looking again to Illmarinen, Khrona adds,
"Keeping this beast hostage would be a bad idea, Miss Illmarinen. He thinks only of escape or death, and if he escapes, he plans on returning with an army of his kin to bring death upon us."
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"A giant you say? Great, grand, gigantic? A mountainous monstrosity of a maneater? Oh how awfully exciting and terrifying! Tell us Gorm, how DOES one take down such a tremendous towering tree of a being?"
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Gorm thinks on what Jasper has said to him, and has kept a keen ear through these proceedings. His bow slung across his back he thought on it for a moment.
"If they've a giant...then Heather here will get the fight she's looking for. I doubt they will want for these nasty trolls either. I can follow their tracks back to where they came I'm sure. As for what you say jasper...you speak the truth of it. We can't tip our hand yet to the authorities. Everyone knows the Lizardfolk weren't wiped out completely, and any notion that we're stirring them up would bring a terrible bad light on your group of outsiders."
Looking at the Lizardman he shrugged his shoulders a bit and walked over to look down at him a bit more closely.
"I think it best we get rid of this one. No sense letting him skulk back to his people and warn them that someone may be coming. The Mongrelmen here seem all right, and if we can do something about these slavers maybe they can finally have some peace, such as it were."

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"Are we not still trying to save Flargen Fellblade's companions? If we've given up that search then our actions here mean little. If we continue our hunt, then the camp of this giant is the best place to start. It was arrows that killed Flargen, and it is likely the savages were the ones responsible. They have a lot to answer for."
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"Id say finding mister Fellblade's companions should be our top priority. The poor gents deserve to be rescued, or in the worst case scenario, a proper funeral. Not to suggest anything, if they are at the Lizardman camp im sure they are just fine, though quite uncomfortable and homesick I'm sure."

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Once you have rested all information from the barbaric Lizardman, the leader of the Mongrelmen is more than willing to put an end to him. The blade makes the scaled skin part under the things chin and it gurgles in defiance up at the Mongrelman as it dies.
They take the time to thank you once more, sure that they would lose more of their number to the larger beings once again. They detail their larger plan, as they are excavating under the tower. It seems that the magical energies that crated the solid ground for the tower provided enough solid earth that they are effectively tunneling down below the swamp with no threat of flooding. They have reached stronger bedrock and are currently working to make a sort of subterranean dwelling that they can close off easily in the event of an attack.
They offer food and a place to rest if you wish it, though they are not offended if you decide to simply forge onward.
Gorm is easily able to find the trail the Trolls took to make their way to the Mongrelmen, and with the help of Heathers aerial view point she soon spots the place in a larger swampy clearing, and from sufficient distance that she was certainly not seen.
The place is much as it was described by the Lizardman and by Khronas probing into his thoughts. Rough walls built of wood taken from the swamp complete with small guard stands. Heather was able to make out a large hulking form trundling about the encampment, but was unable to see any smaller forms. This may have been due to the extreme range she was forced to spy from.

On your way down you surmise that the best approach is from the south of the camp, there are stands of small trees and large marsh bushes that would allow you to get within 50 to 100 feet of the encampment.

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Heather opts to rest at the mongrel's tower before pursuing the trolls. With a fresh mutagen and several extracts prepped, she shadows Gorm as he leads them through the swamp. When her time comes, she soars above the treeline, circling the camp for a while before coming back down to land next to the others. She relays to them everything she saw in her reconnaissance before putting the question to the group.
"We have no guarantee that the hobgoblins are in there, do we still go in? My preference is for stealth if possible. If you approach from the south you can get close without being spotted. I can remain above and clear the towers should you be spotted, but hailing them first may allow us to prevent bloodshed."
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"If you wish to avoid bloodshed I have an idea that may work. It will take a little bit of time but I can go in disguised as a kobold. If there's any chance to locate or free the prisoners peacefully I think that may be our only chance. At very least I could scout out the inside of the camp a little more. I'm sure there are some handy extracts you could make me should something go wrong."
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Ilmarinen nods, "I'm not much for infiltration myself, but having some knowledge of the situation would be helpful, particularly prior to deciding what exactly we are going to do. I'm not too keen on the idea of going in blind so to speak ... its usually a bad idea from a tactical perspective"
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"As long as you know the potential hazard to yourself, I won't question that such information would be invaluable. If you enter at night I would be able to support you from the air and extract you should the situation turn ugly."

"I'll help in anyway I can, Mr. Jasper, but please be careful. That giant I saw in the lizardfolk's mind was very very dangerous."

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
The Map
Heather is able to get a much better look at the place once you are closer, and without raising suspicion. The trolls and Giant are generally milling about the place. They eat, act rude to each other but generally seem to be simply hanging around with no other orders at the moment.
The place is filthy. Kobolds and Gremlins are seen flitting about here and there. They seem to be slaves, or at least subservient workers. There are a fair number of them and they seem like they would not be much use in a fight. the lizardman guards change from time to time, sometimes leaving one or more posts empty for ten to twenty minutes as they eat and generally act lazy.
You get the feeling they do not have any commanding officer or leader present at the time, given their attitudes.
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Keeping a holding pattern, circling in the darkness above the camp, Heather picks her targets. That northern guard could be taken out easily, but she worries about challenging the giant with anything other than hit and run tactics. Still, she makes sure to note potentially places where a dropped vial of alchemists fire could start a blaze.
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"I suggest we start by taking out the guards first. We have to take them down fast and if they raise any alarms we will have to move back into the jungle."
-
Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
Pondering the positioning of the guards, Ilmarinen thinks carefully and then suggests, "How about we try to ambush one of the guards first, if we can surprise him and then remove his body before anyone comes looking ... ... ... they might just be lax enough to not notice for some time ..."

Re: [Pathfinder] Old Enemies, New Alliances (IC)
"That sounds like a shrewd idea to me. Ill scout ahead to make sure no one is alerted. while you folks take care of the unpleasant part. I wont be far."
