Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Heyall,
Ugh. Over the course of an entire year's worth of strips, Mookie has managed to ruin Orcs for me. Whenever I think "Orc" I'm going to think of Maltak.:smalleek:
But in this one panel Mookie has ruined Dragons for me. Dragons! Now whenever I think "Dragon" I'm going to remember this image.
That image doesn't say "awesome firebreathing giant beast". It says "giant naked guy with a dragon mask and crusty skin condition".
That the dragon is praising Luna and completely dismissing all of the orcs who died due to her incompetence as a "Chosen One" doesn't help the strip any. Just how many people did the dragon expect to die in this arc? Or do Orcs not count as people?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Well, Duh orcs don't count as people. Remember the caste system.

Snuggly, ferocious? I think you mean enthusiasm... =)

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I love the "We honestly didn't expect so many to survive" line. The dragon was just trying to finish Warlord Moustache's work.

I meant ferocious like this... but you're probably right, "enthusiasm" is probably a better word for it.

Don't despair of dragons yet! This is after all not really The Dragon, it's Luna's vision of him. So now we know Luna envision these awesome beasts. As Crusty exhibitionist dudes with goatees.:smalleek:

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I have to admit i dont think Mookie can draw dragons, and for that matter it most be sheltering Luna's fragile ego, for i cant call this more than a marginal victory.
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
If it turns out that the Dragon is an agent of Snuggly, depowering everyone through his puppets so his master can strike without competition, I will take back everything I've ever said about the comic.
Maybe.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
...he's just trying to piss us off now, isn't he?
I mean there's all the dozens of furry (scaly?) jokes to be made, and none of them are in good taste. God damn it.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Heyall,
I'm going to take Guttering Flame's advice and try not to associate that image with the word "Dragon" anymore.
...It's like trying not to think of a white bear after someone tells you not to think of it.
Edit: Orcs are a lost cause though. Mookie has done to Orcs what Twilight has done to vampires. I will never be able to take them seriously again.
Edit Edit: Is it a bad sign when the creator's attempts at showing off "art" makes you wish there had been a "talking heads" strip instead?

That's a ho dragon. They hail from the elemental plane of ho, occasionally summoned by sorcerers using supplications of terrible artwork.
It actually looks kind of like a duck. Urgh.

I'm pretty sure a duck dragon would look more badass.

It's a big ol' fat guy trying to seduce Luna. I think I need some brain bleach.

I imagine it'd look like a reptilian platypus. Which means that it would be badass.
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
"I don't need to reiterate" - but you just did, you overhyped reptile. I guess that's Mookie's idea of subtlety - "hey, look, my Mary Sue characters totally aren't showered with praise!!!111oneoneone". Ugh.
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I get the feeling the dragon is not talking about orcs, but rather a long line of Luna clones that died in this arc through incompetence.
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
L-M-A-O
It looks like even dragons are inferior to Callanians and are trying to look just like them.
I also love how Mookie can't have an important character without said character being completely manipulative. "Boy, while I was pulling strings I really wasn't expecting so many to make it out alive."
And why must every newspost contain vegan, metal, or nakkid pix? Come on, praying to metal gods that someone will get better? Since when did "metal gods" turn into hippie flowerchildren? :smallconfused:
EDIT: OH MY GOD THERE'S A BACKGROUND TODAY

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Mookie had waaaaaay too much fun with Brutal Legend.

I would give up the background in a heartbeat if the dragon went with it.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Heyall,
A platypus dragon would be pretty badass.
Seriously, how did Mookie mess up a dragon?! Almost anyone with a modicum of artistic talent (which doesn't include me sadly, but then that's why I haven't tried to make a webcomic) can make a dragon look awesome.
Maleficent was awesome. Pete's Dragon was awesome. Trogdor the Burninator was awesome. Even the OotS dragons, despite being partly stick figures, are awesome.
So why did Mookie decide to make his dragon look like a naked fat guy with scabs all over his arms?!
I just...I just can't get over this. I thought DD had hit rock bottom with the Maltak arc, but this proves I was wrong. Either that, or Mookie decided to dig deeper.
Edit: Sorry about that rant. After playing Dragon Age Origins the contrast between awesome dragons and...this dragon-in-name-only that Mookie wrought upon the Internet is jarring.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I like the way the creature (I have no idea why this suddenly veered into a discussion about dragons) says "We didn't expect so many of YOU to live". It's pretty obvious that "you" refers to castes 1-4 here. I got the impression that a whole bunch of 5th-casters died in the battle but obviously only named characters count.

Really? I got the impression that Mookie is trying to make Dominic look better, because although a lot of orcs died in the civil war, it's still less than the dragon expected. So it's all A-okay.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
WTF? what's with that come-hither pose?

I hereby propose that we call the 'dragon' DINO. Dragon-In-Name-Only.

Sounds good, although it's a bit too close to the other most awesome archosaurian megafauna popular in literature.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
First off, joining in the ARGH category.
I think this is actually a symptom of Mookie's complete inability to draw anything other than as completely anthropomorphized, I mean, his were-wolves, mer-maids... everything intelligent looks quite human with a different head stuck on.
The most different would have to be the nagast... 4-armed-people. Mookie is completely unwilling to try a different torso.
Also, I am now announcing a second official contest!
Who can submit the best drawing of a dragon platypus? Contestants are allowed a single competitive posting (though others just for fun are certainly encouraged). All drawings should be spoilered and the competitive drawing should be clearly labeled as such. Now GO!
And if anybody just photoshops luna's head onto a dragon, I will smite them.
