Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Roark draws his scimitar and waves his free hand, clutching it into a fist as he casts Burning Disarm on the thug, Shnook.
[roll0] R save for Shnook.
Garren draws his rapier and wades into the fray. "Enough, all of you! He's out cold.", As he attempts to bring a truce to the situation.
Oberon goes down. Unconscious.
The crowd ooohs and ahhhs at the developing melee. None truly cheer or jeer.

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Round 2
The thug, Shnook, lurches a bit as he is unable to let go of his flail and takes [roll0] damage from Roark's spell.
As Garren runs up to Oberon, it appears that Shnook is about to pop him with the flail, but restrains himself.
Seeing Roark and Garren both take action, the half-orcs respond, one with a lucerne hammer and the other with a greatsword, stepping up to defend Shnook if necessary. The first of which threaten's Roark; One move you magical swill and you'll be dance'n with The Dark Prince ta'night. The second half-orc holds his greatsword toward Garren; Drop that sticker (rapier) and empty your pockets, or I'll bleed ya where ya stand.
Shnook chimes in; Yeh! Whooo! I dopp'im 'ike a rock, I did. We'll take all your valuables 'ight now or finish you off. Take'em Hog, take all 'ey got! Ohh, 'at burns...He points toward Roark, That magic man best not move. Stump, if'n he moves, you best take'em out.
OOC: If Garren agrees and surrender's his rapier and valuables and those of Oberon, neither Shnook nor Hog attack. If Garren does not or Roark makes a move, the thugs have the initiative to attack Garren and coup-de-grace Oberon. What will Garren do? What will Roark do?
Rufus and Maria may also act in this round.
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Garren gave the thug his most contemptuous look as he tossed his rapier to the side and said through gritted teeth, "Fine. But if you're looking for coin I don't carry any on me."
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Maria grimaces on the edge of the fight, stepping forward. One hand remains on her whip, and she eyes the man's weapon, calculating her odds of saving Oberon if it comes to blows.

Stump, the half-orc keeps a keen eye on Roark as Hog takes Garren's rapier and boots then takes Oberon's staff and boots. Shnook continues to taunt; 'ets go ey; 'at'll teach 'em to mess wit' the Wobbegang!
The thugs exit toward the Puddles district.
Rounds end. The crowd disperses back into the Doxy.

Oberon:
Grunting with effort, Oberon slowly opens his eyes. This was the second time he's been knocked unconscious in as many days. Heroism and stupidity seems to come hand in hand. He was glad to see the familiar face of the priest checking up on him, no doubt the man's healing spell was responsible for bringing him back. An embarrassed smile twitched on Oberon's face.
"I need to stop getting knocked unconscious eh, priest?" He asks the man. "Now, which one did you leave alive? I hope it's the human, there's a good knocking that I owe him."

"You and me both, but you owe me a new pair of boots, at the very least." Garren offered to help Oberon get to his feet. "No, I didn't fight them. It was all I could do to convince them not to finish you off."

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
As the thugs leave, Roark rushes to Oberon's side. "I sense a recurring patter emerging." he says with a sigh as he heals his wounds. Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
A half-orc approaches Roark, Oberon and Gerran. He has more human heritage than orc, perhaps one-quarter orc, three-quarters human. He introduces himself; Allow me a moment, my name is Heron. Would you join me inside for a mug of ale? I have an offer that might suit you.
Do you join Heron?
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Oberon:
Shocked to find that the outnumbered thugs not only didn't die, but they robbed them all of their belongings. Even his trusty bo staff was taken. Still reeling from his injuries, and on the edge of collapse, the news didn't make things any better. Oberon took a moment to collect his thoughts. "Garren. Those thugs have kidnapped a girl under my care. How long have I been out? They may be heading to their hideout right now, perhaps we can shadow them. Which way did they go?"
Just then, an orcish looking human interrupted them. "Allow me a moment, my name is Heron. Would you join me inside for a mug of ale? I have an offer that might suit you."
"Got a mug of healing potion instead? I've got a few thugs to chase. Did you see which way they went?"
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Oberon. They would have killed you. Maria's words aren't quite warning, or chiding. But she doesn't approve.
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
"Yeah, I did. At least they didn't seem to recognize you—I reckon they'd have gloated a bit more personally if they did." Garren looked up at the orcish-looking newcomer and answered his question with one of his own. "Does it have anything to do with my friend's predicament? If not, I doubt he'd stay to hear you out."
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Heron replies; Well no, not exactly. I do believe they went west. I do not know of your friend's predicament, but I did see the fight. I might be of assistance but, perhaps this is a bad time?
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Oberon:
Clutching at his ribs and ignoring the ringing in his head, Oberon stood up slowly and painfully, looking at each of his companions in the eyes to get a sense of their thoughts. He sways on his feet, still unsure of his footing, and takes a deep breath. "She was with me, under my care when she was taken," Oberon says to the group. "Death would've been a mercy for me, the gods only know what's happening to her right now. I seem to be standing in front of life's last door, but this grievance needs settling. I'll see it through or step through."
Turning his attention to the stranger named Heron, Oberon says, "if you can get me the Wobbegang, now's the time to speak up, otherwise, westward it is." He looks around for his trusty bo staff for a moment, before realizing it had been taken from him.
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Rufus joins the others settling with Oberron. "Have a care eh? They looked a nasty and tough lot. Probably lucky for us only be got involved or we'd all be laid out here in the house of the dead".
Tapping is holstered pistol he shakes his head. "Wet powder, embarrassing eh? Let's get you armed and booted 'fore we head after them eh? As it we'll need Cayden's own luck to take 'em".
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
"If you plan on being of assistance, plan on being as quick and direct with it as possible. My friend here is about to rush off and get the stuffing beaten out of him, and it is my job to be there when he does so." Roark says the the man, eyeing him with suspicion
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
"I still have the knuckles, just in case. But I don't fancy running all over the city in my stocking feet, and I wasn't lying when I said I've no coin," Garren muttered glumly.
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Heron interjects again; I can see that you're in a hurry. If we could sit inside or move to more suitable environs, I ... well, here's my card. Just know that I represent a group of individuals with a range of talents. Your luck here today was, in my opinion, an anomaly of your abilities. We could use your help and yes, I know the whereabouts of several gangs within the city.
Heron will walk away if not engaged further.
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Garren took the proffered card and examined it. "Well stranger, if you've extensive knowledge of the gangs in this city then I suppose it's worth our while to hear you out, at the very least. What do you say, old friend?"

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Sizing up the man, Roark finally decides to take a seat with him. "My apologies for being slightly terse. It has been a... mixed day. If you have the information you say you do, then it would do us both a world of good to talk sooner rather than later."
-
Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Heron moves along with the group into the Doxy; Please, please take a seat. ... Jynx, my love, ale all-around. Heron motions his hand around in a circular motion. After learning your names, he continues; I thought it was quite gallant of you, Oberon, to call out the gang. I might add that, in hindsight, it may also have been stupid, but I digress. My friends and I need brave, courageous souls, such as yourselves for various, shall we say, freelance opportunities. Tonight, for instance, there is a shipment of slaves coming into port from Cheliax. I'd like for you to sneak onto the ship while the sailors are off-deck, likely at this very pub, and take the slaves to a specified address. This job pays 15,000 measure. Do we have a deal? Oh yes, I almost forgot, in addition to the coin, I will give you an address for the Wobbegang's safehouse and the names of their top three members. It seems time is of the essence for us both.

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Oberon:
Oberon eyed Heron momentarily before deciding to hear the man out. A few more moments won't change much. Sitting down on the stool, Oberon let out a sigh of relief, the throbbing pain easing a bit with the added support.
"I thought it was quite gallant of you, Oberon, to call out the gang. I might add that, in hindsight, it may also have been stupid, but I digress."
Oberon shrugged. "Wisdom never begat gallantry, Heron."
As the man finished his tale, Oberon regretted his decision to stay. He should've ran straight westward the moment he could, now it may be too late, what with his wounds slowing him down, and then there's the matter of these slaves needing to be freed. A job tonight would mean holding off finding Belladonna until at least the next day, but if these slaves weren't freed, that's a whole group of people that'll be taken to a life of bondage, not unlike Oberon's own false imprisonment. He closed his eyes and internally debated what to do.

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
"It'll involve time and risk, to be sure. But with proper information and 15k in funding, we could put together a real plan, instead of running off half-cocked, alone and unarmed." Garren said, weighing up the options. "But this job has its own difficulties. How many people are we talking about moving?"

Rufus chokes on his beer slightly, coughing and spluttering at Heron's offer. Confused and a little worried. Could it be a double cross or was it an attempt to steal the slaves! "I'll help. For both the gold and the info on the Wobbegangs. Where you needing these slaves taken to?". He nods encouragingly to the others he has fallen in with as he waits to see if the address is the same or different to the one he was supposed to take them to.

Re: Dyer's Absalom Beguiled IC
Normally Roark would balk at such a request, but the promise of coin and information is too much to resist, even for a holy man. Still, he has questions before his conscience will let him rest. "Pray tell, what are your plans for these refugees? And don't give me any of this "it's none of your concern" nonsense, the lives of these men and women is very much of my concern."

Heron addresses your questions; Oberon, you are quite correct.
Garren, spies tells us that there should be 40 slaves. But, we can't know that for certain.
Rufus, the slaves will be going to the Temple of Irori. A priest there, his Excellency, Gad Shakir will take them from you.
Father Roark, the priests of Irori will find them shelter and adequate work. Beyond the exchange, it's not my concern.
I can provide 3,000 measure now and the remaining upon exchange. Do we have a deal?

Rufus looks at the man and then whispers to the others - "The coin is good fellows. Come on - aye, lets be taking the coin, getting them slaves moving and then we can get the information we need." He looks back to Heron a questioning look on his face as he strokes his chin. "So Master Heron - who are you working for now aye?"
