Anyway, I imagine that one doesn't mention Nale's alignment in the description because it doesn't actually say Nale is or is not Lawful Evil. And "Nale may or may not be Lawful" doesn't really convey information, and thus wouldn't be useful in the description. (Also potentially misleading. I mean, we still have the quote implying Durkon is a nontheistic cleric, and that ended up being...effective misdirection.)
I'm hoping the second one is sufficiently self-explanatory that it doesn't need a description beyond the title :smalltongue:

Hey, wasn't there a quote about Tarquin's various wives and how some of them married him willingly (such as his most recent one)? I was just looking for it and I can't find it anywhere.
EDIT: Oh, it was under SS&DT spoilers. Nevermind.

I saw this post before it was edited, then saw your post in like the only other thread I follow on this board these days. I was just coming here to say "Wow, in some massive coincidence, some other board member linked that exact quote! So, here, I found it!"
Like I have time to read usernames. :smalltongue:

Hmm. So there's this, and Class and Level Geekery's "Even nerds call us nerds" referencing our last thread....
Index of the Giant's Comments IV: Insert Thread Title Here, We've Made Plenty :smalltongue:
(It'd be an improvement over "Good Source of Quotassium", I think the banana reference is going to change from "obscure" to "oblique" well before we hit 50 pages...actually it may have already.)

I actually really like "Good Source of Quotassium." Even if the banana reference gets lost, it's funny on its own.
I think we are still a bit early to be considering new thread titles, though. XD

Definitely agreed with both points.

Page 11 and looking at a new title already? Kinda ambitious, aren't we :smalltongue:
(I prefer "good source of Quotassium" too, fwiw)
Edit: Of course if we keep commenting on the future title we'll reach 50 pages earlier!

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
I support the "Good source of Quotassium" title.
-
Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
"A Rich source of Quotassium" is much preferable to my masochistic craving for pun-ishment.
This is a handy guide to a bunch of appealing quotes after all.

NEVA! It is never too early to consider new thread titles!

'Things You Never Noticed' and 'Index of the Giant's Comments' are the only two threads I follow on this board, and right now they're both exclusively talking about new thread titles and about the other thread's thread titles and I am so confused lately as to which thread I'm in help

You know, since the subject of Index organization came up (because I brought it up), the way we do spoilers seems...inelegant. Maybe there's a better way to do it, I wonder how well spoiler tags work inside a table cell....Spoiler: Table test with partial table

EDIT: Well, seems to work OK on both the main theme and the mobile theme.

It might be easier to accept the inevitable Thread Singularity in advance. When all threads are one, "which thread" will no longer be a relevant question.

Hm, I like it. Can I try one thing, though?
Spoiler: Table test with partial spoiler

(Also, I like "A Rich source of Quotassium" quite a lot.)
Edit: Well, it works on mobile, at least. I feel like it's better for searching if, for comments that mix spoilers and non - spoiler info, we provide a non - spoilered blurb outside the spoiler box, especially if, as in this example comment, the spoilers are in a spoiler box anyway, so you can click without getting spoiled.

I wouldn't mind having partial spoilers - but in this situation it would be much better to restructure the content. It is pretty weird that the non-spoilered part kinda makes only sense with the spoilered content (at least from a sentence structure with the "also").
I would do something like
It also makes it align more with Rich's post (First he explains the Julio/Tarquin wedding timing, then he confirms the spoilered content)

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
But can you put a table in that spoiler?
-
Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
If you were to search for something like "Snips" that would be enough to find it, right?

It works on my phone - I'll check on my laptop in a bit of no one beats me to it.
I like the entry restructuring. My main issue now, I think, is that if you are looking for a purely spoiler comment, you have to expand a lot of spoilers, vs. just the one. Adding in a non - spoilery blurb in the spoiler header might work - for example, something like "SS & DT spoilers - on the evil villain from Julio ' s story." But it's not a perfect solution. It almost might be better to keep the existing structure, but for the occasional comment that has both spoiler and non - spoiler info to crosslist it across sections and put a note that the comment contains spoilers in the non - spoiler entry.
Edit: what on EARTH does my phone have against punctuation not buffered by spaces?

Could go for a combined approach, and only spoiler the spoiler-y parts in the description (assuming the entire entry isn't a spoiler, of course).

Alright, so here's my thoughts on how to move/restructure/etc. the entries in the spoiler section. A few of those entries were specific to the book/PDF they were in and didn't have bearing outside of it, so I didn't move those.

It works for me. It looks like it should be easy enough to search through, especially with the name of the book/PDF it's about on the spoiler.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
I'm going to second (third?) the proposed reorganization scheme.
-
Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
I think it looks really good! It's easy enough to ctrl+f for a topic, but you don't run the risk of being spoiled for content you haven't read if you're trying to avoid spoilers.

Thanks.
OK, I've incorporated those into the main Index, and the entries in each section are now chronologically ordered. (They're also ordered alphabetically by title if there happens to be two entries on the same day in the same section, but I suspect that won't come up much outside the "Latest Additions" table at the top.) Also did some retitling on the multipart title entries; for instance "Surprises Are Not Deus Ex Machinas, II" is now "More on How Surprises Are Not Deus Ex Machinas", because there are eight entries between it and "Surprises Are Not Deus Ex Machinas" now.
Since we're still in a comment lull, I'm reminding everyone that we're still taking suggestions for reorganizing the Index to make it easier to use. Whether that's entries that should be moved to a different section, titles or descriptions that aren't particularly helpful, tables that should be made, tables that should be removed, entries that would work better as a "see also" in a different entry...or something else entirely. I'm stalling on housework happy to hear suggestions!
-
Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments III - We've Left a Banana In Charge
"More on How Surprises Are Not Deus Ex Machinas" comes before "Surprises Are Not Deus Ex Machinas" in the list. That doesn't hurt anything, but it looks a little weird.
