The statue resembles Tarquin beheading Roy.

Not really. The only similarity is that he's bald and male. It might as well be said to resemble Grumpy Lawyer for the same reasons, with the added advantage that he's not wearing boots, but shoes.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Well, it should be noted that Tarquin has a habit of plastering 'Roy Getting Killed' around. And the neckline and belt are suspiciously similar.
Still, unless they note somewhere a new statue was added in the last two days, it can't really be Roy. Also, the shoes are different.
Anyway, he did say it resembled Tarquin beheading Roy, which is hard to argue. Not that it's actually totally supposed to be Roy in-universe. Just that it's neat how close it is.

Except that it isn't close, not really. He's not wearing armor or boots, he has regular pants instead of armor... The few times we've seen Roy in regular clothes he still wears boots, probably wouldn't wear the Strength belt in casual clothes, and has sleeves (which he also has on his armor). If this were any other art form no one would even mention it.

No, it resembles Thog beheading Roy, with Thog in the champion's outfit he wore when he was pushed into the arena.

You may be thinking of the poster. Compare the statue to this and this.

How can you possibly tell how armor-like his pants are? It's a rectangle either way!
I'm-- I'm very stuck on that point. :smalleek:
There's also no sleeves on Roy's armor.
Additionally, these kind of statues are intended to show the person in question in a heroic pose. Beheading a random civilian in civilian clothes rather goes against that -- logic would dictate the person he's conquering would be an enemy, in armor. I'm not sure why the rectangles do not look armor-y enough.
The only two things that are different are his lack of the right boots and the shoulderpads. The belt is quite a bit higher, though, now that I look at it, so that's another thing.
Again, though, not supporting that that was in any way intended to actually be Roy on that statue.

#693: Roy's belt looks weird in the second panel.

Yes, I was.
The statue is clearly Tarquin, and clearly not Roy.

What normal people do and what characters in this comic do tend to differ slightly...

You would think, with all the midgets and pointy eared people running around stabbing and blowing up things, more people would notice.:smallwink:

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I just noticed in #754, panel 7, you can make out Durkon, Ambassador Gourntonk, Tarquin, and "Polozius"/Zz'dtri/Elf Ambassador Person.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Maybe I'm the last person to notice this, but, panels 8-9 sorta parallel panels 1-2.
Also more prisoners have burned out in panel 9.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I was rereading the comic today and came across strip #399. I know that it is highly unlikely to happen, but I was struck by how V says "I would pay a hefty sum to see the Linear Guild and that paladin battle it out for our amusement. Perhaps in some sort of gladiatorial arena."
I am positive I am not the first person to notice this comment, but since I haven't seen anyone at all talking about it I just had to create an account and share it. I remember thinking of the comment a while ago when the gladiatorial arena was first introduced into the plot, but now that the Linear Guild is actually there battling the Order in the arena itself, it just seemed worth mentioning. I know the likelihood of Miko showing up is essentially none, but I found it amusing to see that 400-strip-old comic and think about the possibilities.

Yeah, it's been brought up, but this thread is things you never noticed, not things no one ever noticed, so it's fine.

I didn't notice it the first time, but I had noticed it before, so it's more of a renotice really... renoticing isn't a word, is it? Anyways I just searched and was surprised that no one had mentioned it in a while, especially with the Linear Guild reappearing. Then again I probably just suck at using the search tool, and everyone's been secretly talking about it when I'm not looking. :smalltongue: It wouldn't surprise me. My incompetence knows no bounds!

The orangehead in #612 stole Durkon's diamonds in #649. (Or his identical twin)

Considering he dies in #612, that's got to be someone else :smallamused:

He could have been resurrected.

Indeed, strip 622 suggests that Haley's money which Celia gave to the Thieves' Guild was used to ressurect the dead thieves.
Edit: Actually, if I bother to actually read it, strip 621 panel 5 makes it explicit that that's what the money will be used for. All the dead thieves were ressurected.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
See panel 5.
Although...did Haley ever give up the cash to fund the resurrections? I wonder.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Belkar is wearing a clothespin on his non-existent nose. Last panel.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Haley didn't pay, but I believe the resurrections had happened anyway, I doubt the Thieves Guild wouldn't have been able to afford it.

I dunno. What does the guild do with all the money it gains? Its assets are not necessarily liquid. Even if they are, there are still budgetary concerns. All those gold pieces in the vault could be slated for necessary operating costs. And the guys in charge never take pay cuts to benefit the underlings. :smallyuk:

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Not to put a hole in my own find, but someone with the same haircut had appeared a long time earlier. I don't think he's the same person as the other two/the other one. Or maybe it's the untold tale of the paladin sir Orangehead who lost his status and had to live as a petty criminal in Greysky city.

Here, the flower on the cactus in panel 9. which then happy sleeping Haley holds in her hand.
