Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Elsee quirked an eyebrow at the woman's description of the scene, the heck would a halfling kid be doing out by the bogs late at night anyways? Still that wasn't a whole lot to go on, the bogs were huge and there were plenty of bars in the area to leach as much cash from the low-income families that lived in and near there as possible, didn't really narrow it down a whole lot.
"Any chance for a street name or two? Maybe ya could lead us right there?"
-
Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Again, Mika bites her lips and shakes her head. "Sorry, all I know is that it was close to the Bogs, but still, you know, and...wait! I could hear running water nearby, but I couldn't see it."

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Alim and Jadeite
"A wise decision," Jadeite says, putting on a pair of gloves and handing another to Alim before stripping the halfling of his clothes, and inspecting them thoroughly alongside the goblin. His red eyes seem to subtly shimmer for a moment as he scans the clothes.
"His clothes are entirely mundane, and I can find no traces of spells lingering on them...not that I expected to find any, what with his death occurring over twelve hours ago. Only traces of the strongest spells would linger."
His clothes look new and clean, in near perfect-condition--especially his shirt and violet cape. That shirt and cloak don't even have the stitches or traces of manual repair, much less any bloodstains. They're either brand-new or kept in magical repair. His shorts are also free of bloodstains (or mudstains, or any other stains), but are a bit word around the waistline, and a corner of one of the pockets looks to be re-sewn.

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
"Interesting," Jadeite says as he begins to inspect the outside of Brent's body. "What do you make of the state of his clothes?"
There's no cut or mar on the outside of Brent's body. There's some scraping along the back of his hand, but it's clotted.
Jadeite turns Brent's body over.
"Oh, and what is this?"
There's a small dark lump on his upper left back.

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Elsee goraned and rubbed her forhead at the extra informaition, more then what they had before, but still too vauge to get any pinpoint locaition out of it. She waved to Artorias to indicate for him to go ahead with something, not really sure what to say herself at the moment.

Alim pulls on the gloves as Jadeite begins investigating
"I'd hazard a guess the clothes are cleaned with magic, the titching on the pocket suggests they're not new and clothes on't stay looking like this for long otherwise." as the wounds on the body are revealed he raises an eyebrow "The wound on the could just be from the body falling, but that mark, that could be more interesting..."
-
Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
"I agree," Jadeite muses, "But why mend the pants with conventional methods while repairing the shirt and cape with magic?"
Jadeite's eyes twinkle. "I believe that the wounds happened sometime before he died for them to clot...though how long before, I could not say. More than a few minutes for certain. As for the wound on his back," He presses the scalpel to Brent's skin with a smile, "Would you like to find out?

Cut open the torso and go from there? Sounds good. We hit the wound in the back last?
With some effort, Jadeite cuts into the halfling's bare torso and begins peeling back layers of flesh, fat, and muscle.
"Lean and wiry, not much fat," he says. "I have worked on halflings before, once or twice. And many of the organ systems are similar enough between our species."
"An even layer of muscle, ribs...One is cracked, but...no, that's an old injury, long since healed, lungs seems to be in fair condition, heart is...Oh. That is a lot of blood."
The moment Jadeite pulls up Brent's lungs, he and Alim can both see a very large volume of blood pooled in his chest. There is no way that could have all come from the vessels Jadeite just severed to gain access.

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Both Yulian and Ilia stand there for a moment, mouths partially open in horror.
"No...No, that can't be right. You're mistaken, we were with him most of the night..."
"Shut up!" The half-elf strides over to Badger, her hands balled into fists. "Shut up! You're lying you're lying you're lying!!"

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
The Badger placed her palm on her heart and kept her head bowed. "On my life I would never lie to you. Another member of our guild found him last night and my companions and I decided to investigate. No-one should have had his fate. I promise you, I will do everything in my power to bring him justice." If the girl decided to use her fists, Badger decided to let her. Anger and fear often followed death, and she would not deny another's grief. "You said you were with him most of the night. Do you where he went after you parted ways?"

"As would this," Jadeite says, tugging Brent's heart slightly loose, and twisting it around to show Alim. The aorta and vena cava are still attached--and there's a rip in the aorta, roundish and impeccably placed.
When Alim and Jadeite look closer at the cleric's lungs, they can see a tear along the side of one--it lines up perfectly with the puncture wound in his aorta.

Sora and Badger:
Sora ducks for a punch that doesn't come. She opens her eyes to see Brent's friends breaking down, and with almost no hesitation embraces the two of them.
"I'm so sorry. I promise, my friends and I are going to find and catch the one who did this."
While most people walk past without paying much notice, some stop or slow down--several humanoids, Plavaan, and those of mixed blood.

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Elsee nods silently as she follows Artorias, her pace at a light jog to keep up with the taller man's longer legs.
"Wouldn't be surprised if the ked pissed someone of the wrong blood off last night, you saw the bar we went too, the Plavaan were pissed, and if this place is close to the bogs, it's possible at least one of 'em was either still on it's way home or hangin out in an outer-city bar due to overcrowding. Doesn't explain the lack of wounds though, most of us 'cept maybe Drow aren't that good with magic, wouldn't be surprised if Drow were the most pissed off about the whole thing though."

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Elsee and Artorias have one of several ways to get to the few blocks of taverns upon taverns. However, one of the easier ways would be to follow one of the two main large canals cutting through Runite. And Mika did say she heard running water nearby
Whichever way they go, they have to go through one of Runite's many markets, which is bustling with activity at this hour. Cramped and deafening with the clamor and din of merchants hawking their wares, Elsee and Artorias repeatedly have to deal with shoppers bumping into them, occasionally nearly knocking the small goblin over.
"Oof! Watch it!"
"Oh! Pardon me."
"Please excuse me."
"Watch where you're going! Damned greenskins..."
"Did I step on your foot? I'm sorry about that."

"Careful there! you almost knocked my friend down" Artorias yells at some of the more "clumsy/careless" shoppers. Once they are nearer the bars he takes a moment to concentrate, he makes let's his instincts go wild revealing a world normally hidden to his senses. He looks for the cleanest smelling alleway.

Re: Tales of Aequar: Runite's Rise IC
Elsee and Artorias:
The smells of the city--the stench of filth in canals, the hot food wafting out of nearby restaurants, the garbage on the streets, the sweat of people in the sweltering summer sun, the sharp smell of beer, a drunken beggar pissing in an alleyway, the salt of the sea, are all overpowering and the sudden rush sends Artorias reeling.
But he is able to recover, and after a few moments he's able to detect...a gap. An erasure on the scribbled-in page, a nothing where there should be something, or at least a less. There, to the northeast, by a bar called The Salty Mug, that's advertising extremely cheap beer.

Elsee hisses lightly as yet another commoner "accidentally" bumps into her, waiting next to Artorias as he enters some weird meditative state or something, or at least that's what she's guessing as he suddenly closed his eyes and stopped moving. She's pretty sure she's seem him do this once or twice before, though for the life of her she could never exactly remember why.

Elsee and Artorias
The two mercenaries-turned-investigators follow Artorias' nose to a nondescript alleyway. Actually, there is something descript about it--the unusual cleanliness, especially compared to the other alleyways, which stink of piss and garbage (to be expected; they are outside taverns after all). Actually...the cleanliness is concentrated around one spot.
