Hooray! no surgery!
ION: the humidity is so high, I rented SCUBA gear to get to the laundry room, about 150 yards away.

They're also a decent proxy for being able to handle algebra beyond the most basic at all, allowing for at least a decent gauge of symbolic reasoning without dealing with the extra time taken for higher order polynomials.
Basically, it's not about being able to do quadratics. It's about being able to do understand math past basic arithmetic.

True. And I'm sure if I need to take the test, I could get back to where I could do it pretty quickly. But the formulas specific to dealing with quadratic equations and polynomials aren't something that's stuck in my mind, because I don't use that kind of math.

The forecast says that it's 16°C and feels like 18°C. Oh boy is it wrong. I'm absolutely roasting.
Also, my grandparents have better internet than I do now. The condo got a good deal from a service provider, so now everyone has a modem. And it's 100/10 and the ping is 10ms. I have 50/10 with a ping varying from 30 to 50ms. :smallsigh:

Our forecast says it's currently 27°C, but in my family's backyard it's actually 25°C. This is relatively cool compared to earlier today out in the open, when it was 31°C.
We actually had a thick, dark cloud passing over us, but it merely taunted us with its heavy load. Lawns on sheltered, sunny spots have already died, and it won't be long before the rest follow suit if we don't get any rain soon...

I was mildly curious about that myself, but there is no way I am going to be tricked into getting into the gutter too.

But... temperature isn't a competition... :smallconfused:
When the forecast was saying it feels like 18°C, it was total BS because it felt like 25°C. The sun was blasting like hell on earth. It's also extremely dry as there's not been any rain in this area for well over two weeks. It's alarming.
Here, up north, anything above 20°C is hell, really, for a lot of people. Most of the year is spent in cold weather. I personally go on "nope" mode at 20°C. Anything beyond that is torture. It doesn't help that I live inland in an area that every year breaks the heat records for the year... It was close to 30°C or over it for a full week, with no rain. That was just unbearable.

Smaller than most of my social circle, if we're being honest. Although I've not meet somebody who's a Fahrenheit yet.
Spoiler: Discussion of nudity taboos
Show
I recently had a discussion with a friend about nudity and the related taboos, and it seems that Britain's young adults are split between a more American we and a more European 'fine if friends see it'. Both of us being in the latter category.
I really don't see what's so wrong about it, whatever you have it's similar to something owned by roughly half the world. I mean, I get the problem with nudity around strangers, not only is there the fact I don't feel comfortable around strangers anyway but clothes are part of who we present ourselves. But around people I know and trust I it's just another bit of the body, not anything special.

20c = 68f .. .. .. .. .. that is nice goof off weather in warmer climes, but the lack of rain thing is disconcerting.

Why would you want to get your head out of the gutter? It's water-cooled. Perfect for the summer heat.

So, I'm watching The Sniffer on Netflix and I keep thinking that the main guy, Kirill Käro, looks like the missing link between Arthur Darvill and Hugh Laurie.

I assumed when my computer offered to "update and shut down" that it would do so in that order. I told it to do that before bed. Now, ~12 hours later, I turned it on and it started updating. I am posting this using a broken noodle as a stylus for my 3ds.

Doesn't it download the updates, shut down, and then install them when you restart?

I guess? I'd assumed it would install them right away, which is why I clicked "update and shut down" rather than "update and restart" on the assumption that either one would complete the process while I slept.
Also: it re-enabled the touchscreen. I hate capacitive touchscreens. (Resistive ones, like the 3ds has, are perfectly fine.)

Actually, the reason the computer has to shut down to apply the updates is because they include updates to files vital to keep the system running, so the only way to safely replace them is by doing it as the very last step of the shutdown proceedure. The updater will attempt to update as much as possible without shutting down, so most smaller system updates actually go by unnoticed.

"Update and restart" *would* have done it all while you slept, although it would have meant the computer would still be switched on all night. I've left a computer on overnight to download stuff before, though, so I don't think it's a major issue.
