"Necromancy?" Strahd was thinking more "hurling fireballs" than "calling up the dead", but he does have a legion of undead waiters already.. "Shure, w- why not?"

"Skills?" She sounds trepidatious, uncertain if there is anything in her memory worth trying to pay with. "Well, I've read a lot of books, maybe there is something useful in there?" Aleph offers hesitantly.

The Mental Menagerie
(With Strahd)
"Well then, let's get this underway shall we?" she gives one last negligent wave and the machine bursts into life, dancing and twisting, shining chrome blurring so fast that you can barely see the monolithic black cube encased in it all. Then it stops, and Strahd Remembers:
Spoiler
Show
-In the making of a flesh golem you must lay the bone just right to ensure rigidity...
-Feel the negative energy dance across your fingertips, the cold bleakness that fuels all unlife, in the coming weeks...
-Zombies are a wonderful addition to any undead workforce, slow but reliable just like a human slave...
-The construction and reanimation of most greater undead begins with an undecomposed human corpse.
-Mummies make particularly potent guardians based not on their protective nature, but on the plague that follows them about...
-And now, for our final test, you must rear a vampire...
The notes and knowledge of ten years living as an apprentice to a cabal of necromancers streams into his head, going on and on in the blink of an eye. Each individual piece is worthless, but as a whole, he is now competent enough to perform all the low to mid level necromancy that they knew.

(With Aleph)
"Remember, we don't measure worth in value, we measure it in time. So if you honed your bookreading skills, then it's worth something to us. And any books you read that aren't available to us could be worth fortunes, figuratively. But let's get you sat down and we'll get a rough idea of how big the blank is, then we can talk about payment."
Waldorf is there again (when did that happen?) with another lawn chair, which he places in front of a different face of the cube.

"...are you going to see everything I remember?" It seems likely, and it is an uncomfortable thought to her. "And um, what if it doesn't work?" Aleph hesitantly takes a seat on the chair, however.

Nate ponders that, "Well it's never not worked before... but if it didn't, then you wouldn't have to pay anything of course. And no, I don't have to see what you remember, although I do get to look at a bunch of exiting charts and graphs for awhile." he sounds positively elated... Not!

So it's understandable that she now looks a bit disappointed. Oh well, at least they can still probably do the reading thing. Learning to read is much less likely to involve something private after all.

Waldorf shuffles by, dragging a new sign to place on the window. It says "Want to Learn a Dead Language? Inquire Inside!"
"Uh... well, Sakura, if you wanted we could do both." Adir looks at her neutrally. He doesn't seem to mind as much about people learning his memories. "Otherwise, we can just help you get literate.

That is to say, not very long.
"But what do I know, right? I just make sure the computers are running right. I'm no big Nexus personality. As for safe... No idea there either. Probably about as safe as anywhere else in the Nexus."
So no, not really.
"Hmmm, I see." Cierra finishes her notes. "I think I'm going to look into this. I mean... I know it really doesn't concern me, but someone should do something. And it's a way to... well, to make up for lost time." She pockets her notes. "If I mysteriously disappear, and I've been gone for a week... could you, you know, tell someone where I went? Maybe they could at least find my bones and bury them."

If he makes contact, she should hear him speaking directly into her mind, without any of the hesitation usually in his voice.
"You adults are not the only couple here. If you wished, you could Know what your babe knows."
He then straightens, and continues on, but now Celena is glaring at him. Evidently she heard that attempted message, even if Sakura didn't.
While Sakura may not be the most knowledgeable when it comes to pregnancy, she knows enough that she figures that 'what her babe knows' isn't really a lot.
The dryad just blinks at him in her confusion and lets him go without comment.

The chipper Eliza does not notice the suspicious look.
"Okay, Ms. Wightson, just come over to the counter here and we'll get you a cell plan! Also, all B2 items come with a lifetime warranty, which basically says 'if this phone dies before you do, you get your money back. Unless it was hit by something that could punch a hole in a tank.'"
If you watch her closely, you may notice that her body language...is human.
Her voice... is human. Completely natural.
Her eyes... also human. Regular movement, blink times, all natural.
She is not in uncanny valley. She is, in fact, solidly on the human side. Not creepy at all.
Except for that one line.
Presumably, the details of the calling plan are handwaved and Amil buys a brand new really tough futuristic phone!
"Is there anything else you are looking for today? A laptop or desktop computer? Video games? Other tech stuff?"

That doesn't stop Amil from being suspicious!
Maybe someone just wanted to create a perfectly human robot?
That wouldn't be at all unheard of in the Nexus.
"No, just the phone will do. Everything else is already taken care of."
Honestly?
A phone roughly a decade advanced beyond present day 'modern' technology would no doubt be able to do pretty much whatever a lap top can. Tech advances really quickly after all!
Crazy stuff.
Amil will hand over monies!

Re: [Nexus] Mallside I: You Do Not Know the Power of the Mallside
The Mental Menagerie
Celena struggles with her touchpad, and the machine comes to life again, buzzing lethargically as it collects what it needs.
She walks over to where Adir is sitting and holds up the screen to his face. On it there is three tiny blue spikes among a sea of green. "See these blue bits? Those are scraps of information that you have which we don't! It just goes to show you, every person is a wealth of information. Well then, here goes nothing!" Celena manipulates the clump of wires that sits at the corner of the cube between the couple, and the machine completes its complicated motions. Nothing is obviously different after it's done, and then Waldorf shows up with the children's care book from their unattended shopping cart. He holds it out to Sakura wordlessly.
Trying to read something should jump start your brain, go ahead, try it out!"
((I'll leave it up to one of you to describe what she learned from him, most likely Murkus, as it's his character's memories.))

Aleph nods and finally readies herself for whatever process they're going to put her through. Hopefully it won't involve needles or much noticeable messing with her brain, or she may just succumb to terror and flee from the shop. It probably won't come to that though!
What occurs from here on heavily depends on the method they're using to try and restore her memories, so that will need to get described in some detail.

Re: [Nexus] Mallside I: You Do Not Know the Power of the Mallside
The Mental Menagerie
(With Aleph)
Well the machine's moving components are made from a material similar to Jakob's soul chains, but instead of containing souls, each wire contains a copy of a mind. These minds, working in concert, use the Fiske's extensive knowledge of telepathy to assault the brain in question with needle-like probes, each one searching for holes in whatever shielding may be present. This results in attacks hundreds of thousands of times per minute, and if they cannot find a hole then they will eventually make one. Each probe is so small that it should remain unfelt by the customer. All the probes are electrochemically based, rather than psionic in nature. The chrome plates are used to shield anyone else from bleedover as the subject's thoughts are exposed. The disposable chairs are to ensure no one sitting in the chair "imprints" on it, and is linked to the next person who uses it. And finally for memory reconstruction in particular, the wires go in, find the blanks in the person's memory and then use the moments surrounding them to retroconstruct the memories from scratch by throwing smells, vague feelings, and other triggers at the brain until something pings in regard to the lost memory, and then aiding the brain in removing it's blocks by flashing similar memories from it's databanks as more is revealed.
But for now, Nate is just trying to get a reading on how much time is missing, which should appear on one of the chrome plate-screens as a nearly empty wave grid. ((You would know how much time your character is missing better than I would.))
-
Re: [Nexus] Mallside I: You Do Not Know the Power of the Mallside
[The Mental Menagerie]
While there is more resistance to push past than one might expect from a girl her age, ultimately the attempts will prove successful, and discern that the gap of memory in question is about three and a half years. However, none of it is actually 'missing.' There is about half a year which is extraordinarily vague, and following that half year her memory gets progressively better, if somewhat unclear. That she doesn't remember it is probably due to the oddity of the memory quality and the nature of the contents more than anything else.
It seems likely that there will be much less work to do in restoring the majority of the memory to at least recognizable quality.
[Neon Coliseum]
The business woman smiles and shakes Takara's hand. "I'm not too hard to find." Once Takara has left, she'll return to working in the arcade, resisting the urge to untangle the wires.
-
Re: [Nexus] Mallside I: You Do Not Know the Power of the Mallside
The Mental Menagerie
Well in that case the wave grid is instead almost full of red and grey spikes, which leaves Nate pleasently surprised.
Well well, that's a fairly detailed mental image. It shouldn't take much clean up to get this back to working order. So judging on the bits that are actually missing, as well as the blurry parts represented by these grey bits, there's probably a good three years here that need fixing up. That means I could take two years of book reading for it, or three of just any old memories you have lying about. Sound fair?"
