Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
Well, Lucas wouldn't do that because he made his money thanks to those rabid fans... And if they have fun with it... meh, whatever. It's not like Star Wars fans and Star Trek fans would ever get into a serious physical confrontation. So there's little chance there ever will be any real harm done.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
The description suggests it was a gas giant that's had its envelope ripped off by its star, leaving only the core.
Iron, nickel, and heavy elements like lead and uranium, are what are present in Earth's core- similar may be true for the gas giant core, with the gravity, and weight of the original hydrogen envelope, having compressed it as much as possible.
Alternatively it's not a gas giant core at all, but a red dwarf/brown dwarf core- akin to a very small white dwarf star.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSR_J1719-1438_b
That was very dense- still, this thing is far smaller and denser.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
Seems like a valid assumption, I guess... the again after the loss of the "atmosphere" I'd expect the core to expand rather violently... I'm too lazy to do any math on that, though. I guess NASA knows what they are doing.
Leia is pretty harsh on R2 considering he is kind of responsible for getting her rescued in the first place...
Also, running from battles is for cowards :smalltongue:

I wonder what will happen to Han's character when he leaves for Foreignia. Will they put him on ice? :smalltongue:

Although I can't say for certain how these things work, once you accept a job offer you generally need to be at work relatively quickly. This is episode 4, Han isn't frozen until the end of episode 5.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
Postdocs are typically temporary positions of about two years (after which one either manages to find a tenure-track / permanent position, another postdoc somewhere else, or flames out of academia and looks for non-academic work depending on the quality of one's work). So I'm guessing that we'll see a two year time skip and Episode 5 will begin with Annie and Jim coming back from wherever they're going.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
Eh, I'm not too bothered about it. Skype is a thing. Very possibly they'll just drop a random comment about video chat and then continue on as before.

No, I think the break is much more likely. Why else bring it up? Just for the sake of the real life? Then again, it is a bit weird this would refer to the end of Empire Strikes Back since that is the end of the next campaign. Maybe they'll leave after this and then they'll play again when Jim and Annie are back for vacation or whatever and then leave again before the final movie? I'm not sure.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
Annie is surely in favor of Iceland. Less competition for struggling actresses there.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
This OOC plot point is to explain why Han/Jim leaves right before the final battle only to tear-jerkingly return just in time to make Vader roll a 1 on his Pilot check because it turns out he doesn't need to leave for another couple weeks.
dmmaus if I guessed right can I win a prize? I'm out of pizza money for the month already.

I think they only lurk here to spy and then disprove our theories on the comic :smalltongue:

DMM are a collective of people. The Me that appears in Irregular Webcomic is David Morgan-Mar, but the webcomic is produced by a bunch of physicists.

Here's why.

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
But DMM refers to Morgan-Mar specific, not the Irregulars in general, right?

Did I miss something? Jim mentions "both" jobs are "overseas", and then he mentions Iceland and L.A. I thought they were Americans?

I believe the webcomic's creators are Aussie.

I remember at least once an Australian word or phrase that they didn't know was unique to Australia came up, causing much confusion

Re: Darths and Droids III: Search Your DNA Report
if only they said "G'day mate" more often, THEN we'd know for sure :smalltongue:

Well, there was also this comment:
"The line is a reference to Abbott and Costello's most well-known comedy routine, Who's on First? (For those of you not familiar with it and who would like to see it, there's a video here.) Despite being a distinctly American comedy routine, based around a discussion of baseball, it has entered the common consciousness of western culture - so much so that all but one of us Australians were familiar with it. "

They need to give one of the villains an American accent to clear this up.

Oh god, I just had a dilbert comic flashback to this. The Elbonians were working on customer service and the supervisor said, "Remember to speak in your american accents!"
"Yee haw! Lets put the dawg in the Chevy! Look at the size of my missiles!"
"Uh, we only do it that way in the breakroom."
