So... ummm....
What scale are we using?

*shrugs*
An arbitrarily determined one.

Hmm. A baguette in the oven at 200 F... I wonder how long until it's nice and toasty.

Two hundred thousand years. Incidentally, I've almost burned down my house several times. True story.
So, scrabble then anyone?

Sure. Except that I forget on which website it can be played...and which server we use.

No Dragonprime! It's a trap! Player Zero eats those he defeats!

I know. By some combination of skill and luck, he had all the letters for the word "guitars" with which he promptly kicked my ass. I'm now losing 205-96.

Yeah, so you're all supertastic genius people, or at least smart, and I'm...not.
Well, and I'm young sooooo...GAH. MATH HELP PLEASEEE?
I just need to convert this: y+2= 1/2 (x-4) into Ax+By=C
So...yeah. Instead of going to google or something like that I come here. Probably the right decision.

Doing some very rushed calculations in my head in a sleep depraved state, I got this:
X + 2Y = -8
Although there's a good chance that it's wrong.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
If I'm right (and I doubt this since it's been over 15 years since I made this) the solution is:
y-x/2=-4

Welp, you multiply both sides by 2.
That gives you 2y + 4 = x - 4.
Get your 4s on the same side.
Then get the x on the same side as the y.

Also, you're all goons.
2y - x = -8

Using this almost reinforces what I said, except that it's in fact:
-X + 2Y = -8
So I was close.

Your answer is just as valid. Just as describing a line with a different parameterisation doesn't change the qualities of the line you are describing the same line.

Oh dear. Oh dear.
...I finally found our copy of The Mismeasure of Man.
:smalleek::smallbiggrin::smallamused:
This does not bode well for my original plan to actually study for finals tomorrow.
...Is it a bad thing that there's nothing else I'd rather be doing on a snowy Tuesday than sitting by the fireplace, drinking cider and reading Gould?

Well you could have just written it out as y - 0.5x = 4. Either way, they're both right.

Well... mathematics is exact so... the correct equation for Ax+By=C is
(-1/2)x+y=(-4)
or something like that.

Yes, but we won't stone you to death for it. :smalltongue:
You should be drinking hot cocoa and mulled cider.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
Oh wow! Thank you everyone! Also if you could find the equation that passes through the line (-2, -3) with an undefined slope...that'd be...rainbowtacular. I think it's either -3x+2y=0, or...something else. XD
I'm also having trouble finding the value of r so that a line going through (-4, 8) and (r, -6) has a slope of 2/3rds.
Sorry...

Get rid of the one half in front of the x, and it's all good. It's just -x.

Sorry...
Gradient = up/across
Your up in this case is -2, so your across has to be -3. In that case, r would be 5.

Nah, the slope'll be positive, because -2, -3 is two into the II and III quadrants and three down into the third quadrant. In order to reach 0, the slope has to be positive.

Welp. That's a descent of 14 along the y axis. Slope notation means that for every two it goes over, it goes three up. (unless I've gotten that backwards). And if you've got a positive slope, that means r has to be negative...
So... if I misremembered it as dogmantra suggests... up 2, over 3 means that 14/2 is the basic unit, so 7 * 3 will reveal the change in X. Which means there's a difference of 21 between -4 and r.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
A bit of a computer question here, but mostly a problem of "what should I do in this situation" moment.
My computer is starting to suck outrageously, and I need to either upgrade several parts of it, or get a brand new one.
Now, Christmas is coming up, and since I recently graduated from college, my parents have agreed that it would be alright to combine college and Christmas and get me a brand new computer, at the cost of considerably reducing my other Christmas presents.
So now, should I get this? Or should I take a more present-filled Christmas and try to upgrade the old beast?

Thank you Dogmantra! Thank you coidzor! Though you do have it backwards, since it's 2 over 3 it goes vertically two, and horizontally three. /vagueness.

I'm an idiot. I read your co-ordinates as (y,x) for some strange reason. Yeah, your up is -14. I'm pretty sure Coidy-woidy has it right. Curse you, Coidzor, you've foiled me again!
