NOttingham, Nottinghamshire, what's the difference?
After all, why d'you think Nottinghamshire's called Nottinghamshire if it doesn't have Nottingham in it.
And Robin Hood went to Nottingham all the time. Couldn't be that far away. Take a bus or something.
Witnes my obliviousness to geography and be amazed.

I fought a bear once. It mauled me... :smallfrown:
Anywho, back from guitar lessons. I got to learn lead guitar techniques.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Talking of trepanation, as you were a while back, one of my students sustained a serious head injury in a car-crash, and the surgeons repaired his skull with bamboo. (Truefax.) He actually recovered quite well - the only noticeable effects were a) he became much more out-going afterwards and b) he lost the ability to use pronouns.
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Brain damage can be unusual like that (I know that someone in the 1800s in America got a metal rod through their head, and, apart from making them much more unfriendly), it didn't harm him). That sounds bad, Randman.:smallfrown: How did it happen and were you seriously injured?

That's kinda cool actually. Sounds like the beginnings of Super Herodom. Quick, find out what he does in his free time. This out-goingness may have only been to establish alibis for when he is Super Heroing.
That also reminders me of Richard Hammond surviving a car crash and coming out with finding maths a little easier and liking celery.
I wish I could endure brain trauma, survive, then come out with Taskmaster kinda powers.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Yeah... I wasn't being serious about the bear. :smallconfused:
I had brain damage once, but I'm not sure how I was affected, because it was so mild.
I did get smashed on the head by a wooden boat when I was little. That was not fun.
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
How did you get that damage? I'm sorry about forgetting if you'd told me before (I forget things a lot:smallfrown:).
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
A lot of knowledge about what different bits of the brain do has come from people who have survived devastating brain injuries. (I remember that guy with the iron rod through his head from psychology 101.)
Well, my student managed to damage the 'pronoun' bit of his brain. He lost them in both English and Chinese (his mother tongue). So, that might prove something about the innateness of certain grammatical functions and the possibilty of the actual existance of a 'universal grammar'.
(Then again, it might not.)
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Fever that went above the threshold for brain damage. :smallconfused: I only had it for a few hours, so it'll have been mild brain damage. Maybe even non-existent.
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
There could be a connection, Dish. I remember that now, Randman. What happened with the boat, though?
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
...We put it back on the shelf it was on... :smallconfused:
Oh right. It was a model boat. About a meter long.

Fun Facts:
When a koala is born, it is blind, furless and has no ears. It then hides in its mother's puch for 6 months, which is when it grows fur and ears.
They also spend like 15-18 hours sleeping each day.
During mating season, koalas change from being very silent to very, very loud.
'Nother fun fact: I'm going to the zoo tomorrow. At last. Gonna see me some koalas.
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
I went to a safari park the other day and it was really neat (there were some meerkats as well as some really cure deer-like things and some African Wild dogs). That must have been painful, Randman (at least it wasn't metal).

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
I wanna see some Drop Bears!
Sure there's not a zoo for over fifty miles and it sucks big time so I never been; but I wanna see some Drop Bears!
They're like really big koalas and they live in trees and hunt by fropping out of said trees onto their prey's heads knocking them out.
And then they eat the prey alive. :smallcool:
May or may not be fictional, but wow!

Bah, who needs mid-scale geographical knowledge? Not me!
And at least I know where Wales is, unlike one of my friends...

Waitwaitwait, so they just drop themselves out of trees, and land on their prey? That is awesome!
*Pictures a small bear in ninja attire, jumping off a tree, yelling "Banzai!"*

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
 I know!
They'd be prettyoverwieght ninja though. And have incredibly pointy teeth. unless they use their claws as knives for easier bite size pieces.
The best part is that apart from being a bit bigger than a normal koala they look almost exactly identical (aside from the complete ninja outfit but still) so you can't tell whether it's a cute Cat - Muffin controlled koala or a deadly Drop Bear Assassin.
And you never know, perhaps one of the legion koalas who serve the Great Chocolatey Cat - Muffin is actually a Drop Bear just plannng to assassinate the Cute Chocaolatey one and give him to His Almighty Shadowness so that he may feast upon the UnConcious Glory that is the Cat - Muffin.

Drop Bears: the Shadowrun player in me is smiling right now.
edit: I wonder...yep, still there: Planet of the Drop Bears

Koalas; is there any aspect of those fuzzy little monsters that isn't fun?

@Boss. Chaptor is possibly the greatest thing ever. Only surpassed by toast and Kate Beaton.
Drop bears are trying to kill me...

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Ahhhh, that was a nice 16 hour sleep.
-
Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Man I haven't slept for 16 hours in years
So is anyone else, not exactly looking forward to school starting up again? I still have to read all quiet on the western front, and theres only 22 days or so left.

Re: Jack Squat's Justlessly Juxtaposed Random Banter #101
Did someone mention drop bears?

The way things worked out for me this year I have a relatively light school load.
Hooray for being ahead in credits while having no aspirations to go to a big college.

Normally I don't sleep 16 hours, but seeing Testament, Heaven and Hell, and Judas Priest all in one night is exhausting.
Anyway, I'm also not really looking forward to school. I got 11 more days of freedom.
