I'm pretty sure the fields of fallen warriors and the mourning of the survivors might have tipped her off. And the fact that she was present for everybody losing their magic and Hansi getting stuck in a cave (because the magic rain perfectly healed everyone from the brink if death except him, and Dominic didn't feel like looking into the problem.)

Paid was proberly a bad choice of word, i was more thinking in the line of contributet.

You're going to have to refresh my memory here - what was it exactly that Luna contributed?
I mean, she saw OC fighting a duel with his opposite number in the sky, and all the orcs who had come to die for her and Grench, and Hansi killing Neilen...

To be fair to Mookie, hyphenated words are not uncommon in text. It happens in any form of literature actually, when a particular word goes beyond the range of a bracket of text.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Today's newspost is almost offensive.

The rain that actualy healed the land.

Heyall,
I had to reread that news post since it wasn't up when I first saw the new strip.
I think it might actually be more unbearable than the strip itself.
Now I'm wondering what was in that angry email that Mookie found so amusing that he was going to make a punchline around it and Luna's infertility.
Mookie sounds so proud of himself too for today's helping of Sueness. I almost feel bad for him.
Why do so many of the recent news posts piss me off so much?

Really? The way I remember it, she just sort of lounged about and it started raining.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Heyall,
Indeed. The only way we know that Luna had anything to do with that healing rain is because Mookie tells us she did. Definitely a case of Informed Ability. We're told she brought the rain back, but we don't see her actually doing anything but standing around.
...Man, I miss Stunt and Bumper.

Yeah, that was clearly because Luna had gotten free.

So her contribution was being freed by the collective efforts of every non-Bikta orc in Maltak besides Hukthak?

The power that Luna used to call the rain (and all the plants in the Shintula cave, and the grass that grew as she walked) was not hers - it was bestowed upon her by Maltak to aid in it's own purging.
Luna was a conduit - power went from one place to another, through her. There is absolutely no given reason as to why it HAD to be her, and not someone else. Luna has no inherent value in this Arc, that could not have been awarded to any other arbitrarily chosen character.
To say that she was important, is like going out to dinner and claiming that the plate was the most important part of the meal because it held your food in one place, rather than the chef that cooked it or the quality of the food itself. Does it not matter if the restaurant has a hundred more plates and only one chef? The result would be the same as Luna's role in this story; the difference is negligible.
....I apologise for the above analogy, but I'm really hungry so it can stay there for a while. :smallwink:

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I've come up with a perfect explanation for all this.
The dragon had an alterior motive for calling Luna like that, when will we see it?
When Luna starts making half-dragon eggs. Still a mother, but I don't think that ever counts as pregnant.
Maybe this only came to me because of earlier comments about how I couldn't tell Luna and Jayden apart without Luna's teeth.

No, this whole comic is offensive :smallfurious:
If Maltak ended today, I could safely say this was the most infuriating page in the whole Arc. Not only does Luna brush off her "price" (which had no foundation anyhow) but she takes credit for a group effort in which tens, if not hundreds, of people lost their lives. And, her activities during this crisis were de minimis at best, and counterproductive at worst!
Oh, and then the Sues pat each other on the back and Mookie spouts some bathos about how hard he worked on these comics and how people still don't appreciate the torturous effort he puts into writing this schlock. And then, to top it all off, he says that Luna is going to adopt some kid which not only is a saccharine sentiment but serves to make her seem even more special - she's willing to ignore her personal "loss" and help out some poor abandoned baby!
But no, this isn't the last day of the Arc. I have no doubt that, no matter how enraged I am by today, there will be another page which will anger me even more.
Why the hell do I still read this crap? :smallyuk:

Because you read this thread. Also, I would hazard that if Mookie got struck by lighting and was thereby gifted with actual writing talent you'd go back to loving the comic as soon as he started to improve.
Of course, I don't think it would take one lightning bolt. Probably the whole thunderstorm and a meteor to knock some sense into his head on top of it.

But even this thread isn't worth it most days.
I mean, look back through the past few iterations - we barely have anything to snark about. Maybe I'm just reaching the final stage of the Snark Cycle: embitterment.
I think I'm with Domo in that the Unsuckening is a necessary creation to purge the sheer awfulness of this Arc from my system. I don't know how I'm going to write these last few months - probably cut them entirely, to be honest.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Suggestion: Have Luna do something actually important and necessary for the restoration of Maltak, like discover what has been keeping the land from restoring itself and do something diificult to fix it.

Heavens no!
Have you been reading the Unsuckening? Luna is totally worthless, yet oblivious to the fact. Melna is the one who is actually going about doing things - though everyone else will contribute in some way.
Though, to be honest, I think Dominic will only be contributing physical comedy :smallamused:
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I agree that Luna shouldn't be useful in the Unsuckening. The only role fit for her is a clueless dolt who blunders around and does nothing. So pretty much like in the original comic.
And I have to say that the newspost is far worse than the comic itself. I could list why, point by point, but I feel it's obvious.
-
Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
Maybe the Crone gives Luna a lollipop and tells her that she's important, which Luna happily believes while Melna and Stonewater and OC do all the actual work?
So, pretty much how the actual plot turned out, only with less bragging and less Dominic?

I think I have more disbelief directed at yesterday's comic because it's just all over the place. Instead of being a solemn harbinger of bad news, the dragon is a fat lounge lizard turned sleazy game show host spinning the big Wheel O' Consequences (Ladies Edition) to determine Luna's fate. It's surreal.
Today's comic at least had an appropriate tone for the first four panels before taking the wrong turn at Crazytown junction and plummeting into the Uncanny Valley.

Could you believe that I actually thought Mookie was going to improve in 2009 because he was taking the weekends off to recuperate and plan ahead? :smalleek:

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I wonder if Mookie's thought process about the Maltak arc is as followed. I need an epic arc now! But wait! I can't kill anyone because I hate depressing outcomes. Oh no! The arc is ending on a positive note, I must inject some drama! Yay! Barren Luna! But that means she will be depressed I hate depression! I know! I'll make her happy about her barrenness!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, MK XXI - Death is not Maltak
I have to say the last panel of this strip is the worst panel in the entire comic.
