Not at all. I been meaning to post a pre-on-the-road thing to keep it moving, but otherwise I'm fine.

In the field, she'll at least have the closest thing to morality we can recognize. Which isn't saying much, as that team is slightly more than 50% on the way to becoming the cast of Seven Psychopaths 2: This Time We're Demigods.
I haven't been posting. Don't know when that will change. More than likely this week. I'll type up for HalfTangible, the Cirrus, MCerberus and Grif when I can.

Maybe the superhero group needs to get a retainer...
The griffon is ready to go

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
I suggest Static as the dour voice of reason for the group!
Nothing at all could go wrong with an ex-cultist being the one to try and reign them all in. :smallwink:
Course she is just barely an adult, so that should work great with the ones that have far more experience.

I'm almost tempted to suggest Snowflake to tag along. Almost.:smalltongue:

Right. Once Grif's thing is posted, I'll get right to the travel.

Actually go right ahead. It's nothing important, and I rather we keep it moving.

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Yeeeaaah, work that Wisdom, Moony.
I expect to have the STATIC intro post up on this upcoming Monday. In the meantime, here's a mild but pertinent loredump for everyone.
The Mind Web
Based off of a similar spell mechanism designed to provide magical energy in the same way that chains and pulleys make it easier to lift weight, the Mind Web is a versatile magical apparatus with multiple applications. In the case of STATIC, it is primarily used to link surface thoughts between the caster and several agents in the field, allowing them to transmit thoughts, powerful emotions, and notable sensations between themselves.
By retaining its original function, it also allows the connected to share physical energy, usually for the purposes of spellpower. If one mage is exhausted and the other healthy, they can briefly join their 'pools' of magical reserves to transfer some vitality from one to the other. On a much, much more limited scale, this process can also apply to actual flesh wounds.
Equestria doesn't have digital communication, so this is what's being used to communicate with HQ and other teammates, and silently. Those bound can also, as mentioned, 'gift' each other energy at the cost of their own reserves. I'm essentially calling for a signup sheet of who agrees to bind themselves to the Mind Web for missions - there's no stigma against declining, and Stellar is a yes, so there's always a link to HQ regardless. Those with powerful senses of self like Gwyn or who might break the minds of those they're connected to in half like Hay may decide against on those grounds, or just because they don't like the idea of opening up that kind of bridge to relative strangers.

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Wait, I could have opted out of having someone listening in on all my thoughts? Why didn't you tell me this earlier?
Shush, Night Jewel.
Anyway, Flare would probably accept the link without thinking too hard about it. To her, it's just convenient.

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
It was a throwaway joke a little earlier, but what if we have Ammy do the debriefings in order to deal with the collateral damage heroism usually entails. She has experience in the field, and it would give us an excuse to have a remotely-connected voice in the shadows talking about mission results a la the shadow man from XCOM

So Ammy's gonna be shadow mare instead?

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah... No. Bad idea. On every level.
Heh heh, remember when we tried a mental link? That was funny!
*scowl and angry blush* We agreed never to speak of that AGAIN.
Maybe YOU did.
Try me, Star. Just TRY ME.

Hey Star. Star. Wanna try a mental link? Think of all the things we could do!
Please don't encourage her, Lone Star.

Oh-ho-ho. NOW he wants to back off :smallwink:
Well duh Hay Bale, just because what happened that time was funny doesn't mean I want an encore. :smalleek:

The Prance Maid Gambit. Works every time.

You may need to go into more detail with this. Namely...who's Ammy?
Also this:
Name: Stellar Spark
Race: Unicorn
Talents: Extraordinary levels of raw magical power, traditionally manifesting as extensive reserves or single-use bursts on a large scale. Above-average ability to adapt to new information within the realms of her areas of expertise. Possesses the experience, charm, and lack of moral high ground to make her an excellent liar or spy, if she decides she doesn't want to fill up the room with her ego.
(speaking of those) Areas of Expertise: She hasn't reached puberty yet, but she's all but mastered practical applications of force magic, which includes an uncanny grasp of telekinesis and the inklings of the formation of solid constructs. She has almost no versatility whatsoever, but the one thing she can do, she does very well, and that is make physical obstacles a non-issue.

Ammy is Balboa's lawyer and had interned at a law firm that defends supervillains.

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Hope she's adaptable, then. Write up a portfolio if you want; as it stands, we have a major shortage of non-combat roles.
-
Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Seems like we have quite the lull back there.
How's everyone?
-
Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
I sorta assumed we needed mostly combat roles. :smallyuk:
I'm doing well enough I suppose, working on a quick update of my character's constantly transforming apartment. :smalltongue:

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Looks like STATIC is going to have to be a day late. It exists, I swear. X_X

'Best in their field' isn't restricted to combat, no. The concept is adaptable.
Benson and Merellis, I haven't got confirmation on whether Gwyn and Static are connected to the Mind Web yet.
-
Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
Static will be declining the Mind Web unless ordered into it.
While her ability to store energy and such could possibly make her into a walking battery for spells, the fact that it lets others sort of root around in her head is something she would rather not have to go through again and again.
Though mostly this is due to her background in the cult, which most likely would have figuratively and magically poked into her mind anyway, along with Equestria itself after leaving the cult. Can't be too careful with these Harmony hating freaks of nature. :smallyuk:
So yeah, declining unless ordered to join up.

I did not know there was a question but eh...
...sure why not >:D

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
So is there something certain folks are waiting for in the main FwM thread?
-
Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
I'm sorry for the delays. Writer's block, distractions, you know the drill.

Hey, Flare's got plenty of non-combat ability! Sure, blowing things up is the most obvious use for her powers, but it's not the only one.

I could stand to be a little more tangible there, yeah. Not, like, fully tangible, though. More like half.
Geddit? Geddit?

Fair enough! I essentially mistyped what was actually going through my mind, which was something more like 'our only diplomat is a crazy sex maniac and that's going to bite us in the cutie marks'.

Re: [FWM] OOC 5: Egocentric Changeling Hive
I'm half-expecting Dawnstrider to bust out a shotgun at any moment, and lecture us all in exacting detail what will happen if he hears of any shenanigans with Night Jewel.
