Red did his best to look uninterested as off hand jumped up to catch the flying rucksack, and waited for Rhodes and his retinue to get out of earshot before turning to the rest of his party.

Re: Knowledge Is Power [Dark Heresy] - IC
Moments after it left Red’s hands, the satchel detonated with a deafening bang – shrapnel scythed among the Acolytes, puncturing the flooring of the grav-lectern in a dozen places as Katyra and Heironymous were slammed back against the railing of the balcony by the force of the blast. Jericus recoiled with augmented hands clutched over his ears as his senses swam: Red and Ignace weathered the worst unharmed, the surfaces of their flak armour merely ripped into a frayed mess.
Ears ringing so loudly he could barely hear his own shouted orders, the Armsman cast wildly around, trying to find his enemy through the clearing smoke: the red tunics of Rhodes’ guards showed briefly through the fyceline fog, before two brilliant las-bolts seared through the smoke towards him. One buzzed over Red’s shoulder, the heat of its passage washing over his face – the other slammed into his chest, delivering a powerful kick to the ribs as his poor brutalised chestplate soaked the shot.
The two guards were kneeling before the gap between the bookshelves into which the Rhodeses had vanished, Summerson standing tall behind them to form a firing-line: behind the Acolytes, the grav-lectern was burning, sparks spitting from the rents in its metal hide as it began to list slowly to one side. From either direction along the great aisle of shelves, wheeled, red-robed figures were beetling towards them, the words

Agony burning across his face, Jericus dragged himself behind the nearest cover and slumped, switching in/out of conciousness and cursing the day they ever decided to betray those heretical bastards. And got betrayed by those heretical bastards. As satisfying as it might be to hunt them down and gun them down, Jericus was going to have to leave it too some more able combatants.

Re: Knowledge Is Power [Dark Heresy] - IC
"This is why I wanted armour, Red..." Picking himself up off the floor, Hieronymus pulled himself towards the lectern, hoping to get out of the direct line of fire. Ironic, considering how much the lectern had on it. Resting his shotgun on the edge, Hieronymus pulled the trigger, aiming for one of the soldiers.
Rhodes was going to pay. Rhodes was going to pay very dearly, and very soon.

Re: Knowledge Is Power [Dark Heresy] - IC
Muttering under his breath, Ignace dashed for cover, his mind racing. What were the capabilities of the enemy psyker? They were probably fine if she was no stronger than he was, but if she had access to any sort of real power, they were in trouble.
Casting that from his mind, he tugged on the powers of the Warp to shield himself from notice.

Re: Knowledge Is Power [Dark Heresy] - IC
The nearest of Rhodes’ soldiers jerked back as Heironymous’ weapon caught him full in the chest: the trooper’s armour dissipated the force of the shot, the shotgun only serving to make a mess of the left breast of the man’s fine red tunic.
Her ears ringing, Katyra dragged herself slowly to her feet, one hand groping for her flamer – she looked around blankly, the blast seeming to have disorientated the Sororitas novice. Catching sight of Summerson and his men, she seemed to remember they were enemies – unlimbering her flamer, she raised the weapon and fired, spewing a gout of flame towards the bodyguards’ disciplined firing line. The cloud of fire belched forwards over their enemies, obscuring Rhodes' guards from view for one blinding moment - from within the momentary inferno, there was a most satisfying scream.

The first man's shot screamed over Katyra's shoulder - as she stumbled in the wash of heat from its passing, the second caught her head a glancing blow. The Sister span from the impact, the shock rendering her instantly insensible as she crumpled to the ground - glancing up from his hiding-place, Jericus felt his stomach turn as he saw the skull-like, cauterised remains of the novice's face. Fat had run like wax between charring skin and cooked muscle, but that was not the worst of it: both eyes had been seared from their sockets. Katyra was blind.

Re: Knowledge Is Power [Dark Heresy] - IC
The smoke and pain was, at most, mildly annoying. Red grimiced as the metallic shards of death whipped past him and struck down his allies, but there was nothing he could do for them, now, just aim, just fire.
He was back in his element, though he couldn't help but feel his own bumbling had brought them to this point.

With a ridiculously understated tinkle of metal, Red’s grenade bounced and rolled in at the guards’ feet – they barely had time to react before the explosive detonated, a whickering scrap of shrapnel from the blast taking the nearest library drone’s head in two in a spray of tinted glass and ruptured bone.
As the smoke cleared, Summerson’s unconscious form was visible amidst a pile of broken bookshelves, his clothes still smouldering – Hodges and Hughes were staggering, lacerated in a dozen places, but evidently saved from the worst of the blast by their armour.
Their senses still reeling, they blinked as another little metallic object arced their way: Jericus’ blind grenade went off with two hissing jets of smoke, the House Rhodes troopers shouting in alarm as they were swallowed up in a sudden cloud of white fog. Within seconds, the men were totally obscured from view...

The books were attached to their shelves with heavy chains: opening a volume that seemed not to bear a title, Jericus frowned at the contents on the first page that met his eye. The books here seemed to be mathematical treatises: symbolic calculus wound its way down the age-cured parchment, interspersed with the occasional terse sentence of High Gothic.
Therefore, it is trivially evident that...
Up ahead, Red and Heironymous raced around the corner that Hodges and Hughes had turned - the two men were directly ahead, ducking behind two of the familiar marble busts in an aisle almost exactly like the one in which Red and Jericus had confronted Bromhead and Jant. Dropping expertly into cover, the two men took aim and fired, a volley of lasbolts shrieking after their pursuers. One struck Red in the chestplate, the kick robbing the guardsman of his momentum but nothing else - murmuring a prayer of gratitude to his armour, he pressed on...
