New band??
*goes to look for them*
I found them listed as "Atmospheric Celtic Metal"...that's an interesting description. Kind of a long intro, but good once it gets going. 2 thumbs up!

Aye, this is good! Not that thrilling on it's own but excellent music to listen to when reading.
Yup, these sort of atmospheric bands are great for rainy-day reading time.
There's this great one man project called Lustre. The metal is hidden so far beneath that it's essentially mood music, but it's wonderful background music. And it's almost entirely unknown, which is a shame. I'm always up for discovering more of this kind of music.
Is it just me who feels like a lot of those bands are essentially just building on what Hawkwind did in the 70s?
Atmospheric black metal bands? Sure, I guess, if you listen to that spacey music of say Arcturus or Borknagar.
But bands like Drudkh have the Burzumy keyboards and wind effects and some traditional music of whatever country they come from.
...Unless Burzum also drew inspiration from Hawkwind? I have no idea.
News! New Moonspell album next year. Which is yay.
Also my favourite new Leif Edling-created, female vocal'd doom metal band Avatarium is releasing a new EP later this year. The sneak preview I heard is excellent. Can't wait.
I know Dethklok was made up for a cartoon, but I actually really like a lot of their songs...is that strange?
So Winterfylleth's new album is out. Been listening to it a bit, and it's not spectacular. Pretty much more of the same. Saor, whom I mentioned earlier, is much much better.
Next up is Einherjer's new release, in about 2 weeks. Still holding out hope that the EP was just a silly fluke.
It helps that the guys behind Metalocalypse (or Brendon Small, at least) really know what they're doing.
Summoning is making new music. yaaaaaaay
Found out that Behemoth is touring over here next year. Not a massive fan, but if I can find someone to go with me, I'll definitely go.
Update: Just stumbled across new band Bhleg; another atmospheric folky black metal band, this time Swedish. First EP just released. Pretty good stuff; similar to Skogen but more melodic. Keep an eye on them.
News! (I should seriously just make new posts for all this, right?)
Pain of Salvation is doing a new album. It's going to be acoustic though, and looking at the tracklist it will be full of covers. Boo. They should instead be working on Perfect Element Part 2, amirite?
Also Borknagar is also working on some new stuff. Urd was possibly by favourite album of 2012, so I'm pretty interested in this one.
So I'm going to housecore this week
will I see any of you lovely people?
Just got back from a show starring Internal Bleeding, Pyrexia, Jungle Rot, and Suffocation. Met Bill Robinson of Decrepit Birth there. Weird dude doing vocals for Suffocation instead of Frank. Bought CDs from Internal Bleeding, Jungle Rot, and Pyrexia. Lots of chugging. Lots of slamming. Lots of breaking down. Gotta go sleep until I can speak in anything more than broken sentences.
So the Emigrate album has been postponed a few times, which is super frustrating. Bits and pieces coming out here and there...but, the video for the first single released today, and it's pretty good.

Since they haven't come up in the thread yet, I'll just say that the new albums from Revocation and Black Crown Initiate are pretty great.
So 20 years ago today Tiamat released Wildhoney, probably one of the most influential albums in metal history.
How does one describe it? I dunno. I'm just going to listen to it for the rest of the day.
So I'm really digging the new Manson! :D

Damn that was awesome.
And 25 years ago today (or roughly today)...
The world trembled and quaked beneath the weight of crushing grooves unlike any other.
So I think I know what Gallowbraid's Jake Rogers have been doing all this time since Ashen Eidolon... he's one half of Caladan Brood.
They're both from Salt Lake City, and both on Northern Silence Productions. Plus, I mean, listen to them. The vocals are exactly the same. And Stone of Remembrance off Ashen Eidolon could easily be a B-side from Echoes of Battle.
And I don't mind. I mean, they're both awesome.
Meanwhile I've been listening to Einherjer's new album. I'm... very confused. It almost sounds like a joke album. Very 70s prog rocky. And this from Viking metal's big boys. Catchy though.
If you want to talk Salt Lake City Metal (Didn't know Caladan Brood or Gallowbraid were from there) you can't forget Eagle Twin, or the almighty Subrosa. I saw them for the 4th time last Friday and by god it was glorious.
Actually as an event housecore was a lifechanging time. I even randomly bumped into the drummer for Lord Mantiis and Abigail Williams :smallcool:
Unreal dude, they put on a good show and the headbanging violinists are a lot of fun to watch. The raw chaos of the band seems kind of emphasized too, it gets bigger on the primitive side of the band. I have like... a million reviews online of their live shows if you want!
I am incredibly excited for when the album actually comes out. They've released teasers for each song, but it is so hard to tell what they really sound like from a very brief snippet. I can't wait to hear the track Lemmy does vocals for! Manson's track (from what I can tell) sounds very much like a Manson track. I couldn't really tell from Jonathan Davis's track what he put into it, but I really can't wait for the thing to come out!
New band! Well, new for me anyway.
The Howling Void is a... atmospheric funeral doom? Is that a thing?... project. Sounds like what Summoning would make if they smoked some stuff that gave them a bad trip. Not super slow or heavy, got some really pretty and relaxing atmospherics. A bit like Lustre without the black metal, not that anyone knows Lustre.
Sounds awesome. Maybe I just need to suck it up and move to America to see all these shows
So, is the new Slipknot album any good? I preordered the deluxe edition a few days before it came out and so I'm still waiting for amazon to get it back in stock
I used to not like them, but then I saw them live a couple of years ago and they won me over (they're actually the only growl-only band I like). This will actually be my first studio album of theirs. Anyway, it's ordered already so what the hell, can't be as bad as the Queensryche album I bought 4 years ago. As for them being a dirty word around here... There's a reason I don't hang out on this thread, you guys are way too metal for me
Heh. We'll mostly listen to anything if it's good. I just like finding new bands; most of them for the last while just happened to be black metal. But I like Nightwish as much as the next guy.
Speaking of which (no not really): Ihsahn is apparently recording new material. I super hope it's like his old stuff. Das Seelenbrechen was... not the best thing I've ever heard.
Edit: Holy balls Mare Cognitum's new album dropped on Monday and I didn't even know about it. Listening to it right now and whoa.
