Maybe there will be news incoming from Carport and/or some other neighbour attacking TV.
Considering that delivering Parson&Co to Spacerock will be a multi-turn trip,
TV might want military assistance more urgently then schmuckers.

2: Erfworld has different morality than we do. There has been nothing to indicate that this sort of thing is deemed ignoble by native Erfworlders. And, really, it took a long time for it to be considered a war crime in the real world. Messengers were off limits but in the medieval ages it was generally expected that prisoners would get tortured and/or beaten.

Well a war against GK is definitely a losing proposition, so hopefully somebody on team Transylvito pops a clue to be friendlier. :3

See erfwiki:
Caesar was popped as the Viscount of Vitalis
So, he is noble ("barely"), but not royal.

I was expecting this will happen. Yay, Jill is back. Back again :smalltongue:
Also Parson's worst fears are coming true. I wonder if he can work over Ceasar to start the coup? Fate will probably keep Parson safe from Charlie's prying hands. Maybe Parson gets his side a Turnamancer.

Re: Erfworld Thread VII: No Consensus, Left Unsealed
I now believe Charlie is justifiable in his stance against Parson. Any Erfworlder who watched our TV would agree these Earthworlders are complete monsters. Also, all Charlie did to get the great minds mad at him was snoop on their hush hush think-talks. Talk about an overreaction.

What? That's like saying someone aliens should kill your loved ones, because some humans are *******s to other humans.
And keep in mind, Charlie was fine with importing ideas for guns from our realm, probably for a looong, loong time, before Parson ever came to this world. We saw that Dish was Shocked in the first few comics of Page 1. It stands to reason his gun supplies were stockpiled for quite some time.
GMTTA are mad for two reasons:
A) They don't like competing with CC
B) They don't like that Charlie doesn't want to share with them
C) They hate that Charlie isn't respecting their stupid vows to Thinkamancy.
It's hypocritical, but its how the Erf turns. Now we need to see, how Fate will ruin Charlie's plans, because of course its going to end horribly for him.
Jillian's turnamancer here? Ceasar isn't going to like this one bit. He dislikes Stanley, but Jillian he hates. Her getting in the way of two mill meant for TV? Parson doesn't even need to lie to get them frothing. All he needs to slip is that Vanna is secretly working for Charlie and that little truth will make for a hell of a party.

Pot Kettle Black I'd say. Charlie keeps Erfworld in a perpetual state of controlled war, pulling the puppet strings and controlling everything behind a velvet curtain to make profits from conflict.

I think if my think-talk privacy was invaded, I'd be pretty upset too. Snooping on thinkamancy is part of how Charlie profits off everyone.

Re: Erfworld Thread VII: No Consensus, Left Unsealed
Nice to see Bonnie pointing out Don's "Kingly behaviour" :smallamused:
GK having an Archon as a replacement-thinkamancer right away
(and an level 7 CWL to replace the 'perfect' level 2 CWL)
should also serves to undermine Don's idea of "GK is crippled".
This just needs Wanda to get out of jail as the final nail to that coffin :smallwink:

That's giving Charlie far too much credit. Erfworld keeps Erfworld in a state of constant conflict. Charlie just profits more explicitly off the situation than most.

Too much, maybe.
Far too much? I think Charlie broke Erfworld long ago, and Parson is the fallout. I do believe Olive Branch broke Charlie first, but Charlie is still at fault here.

Perhaps. Perhaps. *chin stroke*
It brings up a question in my mind if Erfworld is like some of the more modern Civ-style games where you can win through peaceful means (such as forming complete alliances with all known parties). Then again, Erfworld has been described as being mind-boggling large to Erfworlders. Nations that exist far off the maps of the ones owned by the likes of GK or Transylvito... if not there is always simply conquoring your neighbors Romanesque style and owning the known world. Which would be bad for Charlie's bottom line.
In any case, if there is a condition that would end wars on erf, Charlie would be against it.

I don't know that that is necessarily true. Charlie is more than savvy enough to continue profiteering in peace time.
A disturbing thought I just had: We know that units that lose their usefulness age and die off in Erfworld. If Parson manages to bring lasting peace to the world, he is effectively murdering every single combat unit.

Isn't everything based on combat though? :smallconfused:

Courtiers.
And for that matter most Caster disciplines seem more focused on non-combat areas than direct combat.
However...

No, that's not how it works. Their Signamancy does change, but they don't just spontaneously disband - their Ruler still needs to disband them.

Names with a star indicate the update was an in-universe document instead of standard prose. Mostly these are Klogs, but there's also Bunny and Benjamin's Rhyme-o-mancy, Tremennis' diary and Charlie's transcript. I'm reasonably sure someone's going to want to exclude the Klogs, and this seemed the fairest way to make that feasible. Also, I discarded any purely-Eyebook-or-contract-text updates, since they don't have an actual character's POV to them.
For categories: "Klog" is anything called out as a "Klog" in the site's archive, "Interbook" is prologues or epilogues (I didn't see any advantage to distinguishing between them), and "Text Updates" is...anything else.
Also, there are ten updates that have two POVs; if you're going for percentages, here's the counts in each category: there are 19 Klog entries, 71 interbook entries, and 117 text updates; for 207 total.

So what I've learned here....- If you count klogs and such, Parson is a POV character in about 36% of the text updates, quite a bit more than second-place Jillian's 8.7%.
- If you don't count klogs, Parson is a POV character in about 29% of the text updates, which is still a jump over Jillian's 9.9%.
- If you're only talking about non-klog text updates in the middle of books, Parson is still a POV character around three times as often as second-place Stanley (higher or lower depending on if you count the two notebook updates), who has a single POV appearance ahead of Jillian in that category.
- Book 2 calls out its text updates on the site navigation; Book 3 treats them like any other pages (the one Klog page is mentioned as such after the page number).
- Book 2 had long chains where updates alternated between comic and text updates; Book 3 has multiple clusters of consecutive text updates.
- I'm really bad at typing "epilogue".

I could easily be wrong, but IIRC, Parson tried to think about how peace could work and he couldn't come up with a way that was feasible. OTOH, he hadn't given up yet. He still thought it might be possible. I can't find where it said so, so I'm not sure that I'm remembering correctly, though.

Yuki is correct as far as what Jack knew. OTOH, it sounds as if it hasn't been really tested. Rulers disband units or they wind up being killed eventually.

From Twitter
That quote literally says they are noncombatants, dude.

@Jasdoif: That is some impressive number crunching. However if you say most text updates are from Parson's view, that means a majority of Text Updates are from Parson and aren't from non-Parson sources. Sure Parson is the most frequent POV, but all others combined definitely overshadow him.
My beef was that first person narrated Text updates (like Klogs) are rarer compared to omniscient narrator.
@Yuki Akuma: They are non combatants in the same way oil barrels aren't combatant. You still can shoot them and they rarely shoot back. They contribute to side Signamancy and can possibly be recruited.
Closest to noncombatant are MK free casters. Parson never decided to attack those (he had a binding order). However even they need to offer their services to warring sides.

Re: Erfworld Thread VII: No Consensus, Left Unsealed
In a world without war, I'm sure Courtiers at least would find other ways to aid the side.
Quite possibly the combat units as well.
Casters obviously have things to do, and warlords can manage cities.

The quote literally says they aid the side, dude. Noncombatant means they don't go out and fight like a Lancer. They're still part of combat because that's all there is in Erfworld.

Parson's picnic: combat or not combat?
That aside, courtiers are an obvious example of a unit whose utility does not disappear when war hypothetically ends, which was the material point following from TheWombatOfDoom's 'disturbing thought'.

But this line of discussion isn't about 'aiding the side'. All units aid their own side. The line of discussion was what happens to units whose only purpose is combat after combat stops being a thing.
Context is important in conversations.

Re: Erfworld Thread VII: No Consensus, Left Unsealed
Ok, so Charlie's gambit seems pretty obvious: Move the dish back upstairs, link up and turn Parson for good this time. The question is, how will this play out? I had what I thought was a pretty cool scenario planned out which ended in Parson re-enacting the Daigo Parry but then I realized that Vanna wasn't shown as Chun Li in the turnamancy mindscape, but Cammy. Shame.

I think the thing will flow like this:
- Turnamancer will offer her services to speed up Transylvito's (TV) production. Since she is King's Bea Turnamancer, she will be welcome in Don King's court.
- Turnamancer will "accidentally" find about Parson being prisoner. She'll either offer a better offer than GK or try to cast something on Parson.
- Parson will probably figure out the ploy and let few facts slip into Caesar's ear - fact that Charlie has a secret alliance with FAQ and that the Turnamancer is secretly working for Charlie.
- Between his impending doom (speed up TV heir), stories about Jill and fact that Charlie is involved with FAQ, Caesar will make a series of decision that will ultimately result in Parson's freedom. I imagine that he'll think that FAQ+CC want to get rid of Caesar so they can backstab Don King later, and he's going to go for the throat of that Turnamancer.

So your prediction is that the help from the Turnamancer will convince Caeser to turn on Don King? I like the irony of the result.
I think somewhere in here is going to be an excuse for Jillian to find out Parson is in TV, so Charlie can ask her to catch Parson/intercept the transfer. This will make it look like Jillian is turning on her ally, without Parson having to prompt or explain anything.
I don't think Charlie has to link with Vanna to try turning Parson, so maybe he has a bigger goal in mind. Either way, it took two days to get the dish down there and now they have to put it back on top again, so don't expect this to be answered right away. I don't think he's putting it back up there for extrauniverse channels, at least. There's some potential he plans to linkup with a different caster for this. Imagine what Bill could do with Charlie, his Doll, and a Turnamancer.
