So it's not that she hides it so much as she doesn't volunteer the info? That makes a lot of sense. Why has this not been suggested before?
About time that question got asked.
Parley. It's going to be Parley and we're all going to be SHOCKED!!!
It's going to be Ysengrin! Yes, Ysengrin is actually a woman, and she snapped at Annie yesterday from a combination of hormonal imbalance and stress caused by her recent discovery that she's pregnant... and Eglamore's the father!
In all seriousness, though, Parley does make some sense, in that she's more detached from the situation than Antimony is.
She's also been in training longer, and isn't an unstable element.
That job seems to suck. Why does anybody want it?
I would like to see Annie get the opportunity to say, 'No, thanks anyway.'
*sigh*
***
I admit I literally shouted "Damn you!" after clicking next and reading 'the previous day'
Now, from a story telling perspective, this makes sense. It builds tension and interest, but, dang it, I'm wanting my answers, even if they just lead to more questions.
Parley is better than Annie in many ways, but Annie is still the natural choice as a medium.
Annie is less trained formally, but had years of recognizing and talking to beings such as gods before she even understood who they are.
Also, she currently has contacts in the forest, and she didn't developed them to become a medium, it just came naturally.
Of course, the problem is that this entire choice is weird.
Asking who between Annie and Parley is more trained and suited for the job makes us forget that they are BOTH considered to be in training, so both of them are far from optimal choice, both for the court and for their own personal sanity.
Are two schoolgirls the best options the court can come up with? Is there no one else suited for this job?
The medium job doesn't really require supernatural forces, it requires just some diplomatic skills and a minimal level of empathy and understanding.
I think that despite the ceremony and title, the headmaster (and court in general) doesn't really care about the forest, so the medium is considered a low priority task.
Low enough to leave the job vacant for years, and then pull some untrained kids for it.
Even that's contradictory though, as if it's that low priority they can wait until the training was complete because they wouldn't be paying enough attention.
The post had to be filled for diplomatic reasons.
Think of the first encounter with Coyote.
The post of a medium was vacant for years, and no one really bothered with filling it until an actual meeting took place, and then they just brought Parley as a temporary medium.
Ysengrin wasn't pleased (understatement) that they sent a girl to talk to them, yet the headmaster is probably about to do the same thing again!
It was even confirmed that the headmaster had to participate, but didn't really care about such meetings.
What the hell?
That's so weird, seeing her like that. Well, seeing them like that.
Wait... a week? What happened a week ago? If it cuts to another scene on Monday (as I suspect it will...:smallannoyed:) then the answer is "nothing". Although Jones apparently doesn't need sleep, as it's clearly very late in the evening (the moon's high in the sky and the sky's pitch black),JohnathanEglamore is fast asleep, and Jones doesn't look any different than normal.
EDIT: It's that guy.
I think it's adorable.
I've only recently come into this series, and really just finished the massive archive binge. But I have to say seeing these two together like that is cute.
...still have no idea as to what she is, mind.
The man is Eglamore?
Head EXPLODY at Jones and Eglamore being so casual! O_O
And that's a very attractive scene.
We have already seen them both together.
So, not a big surprise.
Just a small one :smallamused:
You know, I'd be fine with keeping Jones' true nature a secret if it means more scenes of her doing casual things. I wouldn't be surprised if the next flashback is her at a poker game with Eglamore and the Donlans.
I know, right? I was completely unprepared for the idea that Jones wears casual clothes and hangs out with her boyfriend. I thought she just sat real still in her office at night. O.o
I bet Donny is really bad at poker, judging from what we've seen of him.:smallamused:
When I first saw the scene I actually assumed that Jones was more of a motherly figure to Eglamore, reading him a good night story to calm him about Annie's trip to the woods.
I tend to think being read to is extremely relaxing because I like stories and reading isn't always easy for me due to my mild dyslexia. The right voice behind it can make it extremely soothing.
This trip back through time is really messing with my perceptions of Jones. If we keep going I anticipate massive revelations, astonishment, confusion, and possibly even terror.
Goody!!
