It's hard to see online because the letters are not well formed. I'll guess they are more readable in the print version.

Their amulets' colours are also inverted. And it fits with Pompey's hair and robes being the reverse of V's, as noted by Sabine.
Nice catch.

Actually it is not easier in print. I have read and re-read that page many times, but only saw this today.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Haley is hit with a spell from Xykon in page 2, panel 3.
And hey, now I noticed that the zombie dragon's left hind leg is missing it's foot.

Strip #807; Holy word... *facepalm*

In On the Origin of PCs;
Spoiler
Show
Elan tells Roy that low level adventurers can get a lot of gold by delivering packages and killing rats
Spoiler
Show
I know these specific things from Ancient Anguish. Is the delivering of packages for gold and killing rats as a first quest common to other more widely-known games, or might this actually be a shout-out to AA?

Yeah, that's extremely common in any computer RPG, particularly MMORPGs. The Noob also repeatedly parodied it.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
This isn't something I never noticed, but rather an interesting bit of trivia I had to find out on my own:
On October 11, 2004, there was a completed strip that was not put up due to current events. The Giant later mentioned that it might find its way into a compilation book, but I figured it was something he simply forgot about. But that's because I misread and thought he meant it was an alternate version of #110, possibly containing a Superman reference (Christopher Reeve died the previous day). Then it dawned upon me that he was referring to bonus strip #109a, which contains the line "Yeah, he's totally paralyzed. It's cool." So, yeah, unfortunate timing but good move by the Giant.
The more you know. :roach:

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Oh, the one where roaches are crawling all over V? Huh. Interesting.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
In #463, Captain Axe has an axe for a hand the way Captain Hook has a hook for a hand.
Up until now, I thought he was just carrying a regular axe.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Kinda ironic that Dr. Gunsforhands noticed that...
Now we all saw that Blackwing things of himself as a super stealth dinosaur in this comic, however when I was looking back, I notice he also calls the giant allosaurus in the colisseum Brother

Well in all honesty he is. The vast majority of what we consider "dinosaurs" are very closely related to modern birds, like say a raven. I learned that in Biology today. The more you know. And knowing is half the battle! G.I. JOE!:smalltongue:
EDIT: Modern birds are more closely related to dinosaurs than Humans are to chimpanzees.

The Elan-Durkon Dialoge in from off panel in the first panel of strip 28.

Yah.
A small thing I never noticed: V called Z "Mr. Zz'dtri" way back when.

Look up the definition of "elan"

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Looking for a different strip, I accidentally stumbled upon this one.
And that's the first time I noticed Elan and Haley are sleeping together, you know, in the desert, in front of everybody else. And he's hugging her in his sleep.
Now, if I could only understand what those three white lines are... or why she's holding a lotus flower...

It's not a lotus flower but a cactus flower, and the three white lines are cactus needles. See the previous panel.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Oooh. Hehe, that's funny. Cool, thanks.
Now... I'm back again. I never noticed that in strip 721, panel 5, Malack calls Elan (whom he thinks is Nale) a "FITHY" traitor.
Giant? Are you around?

I just realized both Nale and Tarquin killed people in order to make a stupid sign.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Never noticed that Dorukuns lack of a water level was addressed in a later strip. Probablyl been pointed out but I just noticed it

Two ways you can do it.
Manually
------------
(URL=www.somelink.com) WORD (/URL)
Change round brackets to square ones and you get : WORD
Automatic
--------------
1) Highlight the word or phrase you want to URLise.
2) Click on the http://www.giantitp.com/forums/image...createlink.gif icon.
3) Insert address for the URL

I'm calling foul on that one. Nope, nope, nope. Humans and chimps are RIDICULOUSLY close to each other, you have no idea. One of the questions that has been floating around for a long time (and will never be answered because ethics of science are a GOOD thing) is "if a human and a chimp attempted to produce offspring, would there be no result whatsoever or a sterile hybrid?"
Meanwhile, "modern birds" and "dinosaurs" is a different categorical comparison entirely. "Modern birds" is a HUGE group of animals, and same with dinosaurs. Not only is it a faulty comparison, but I am pretty sure it's wrong anyway. I haven't sat down and looked for the data so I recognize it's *possible* that I am mistaken, but there is no way (to my understanding of biology) that as diverse a group as "dinosaurs", while undertaking an EXTREME shift in environment, would not cause a small set of phenotypes to be selected for almost exclusively - which then leads to inbreeding, certain traits being expressed nigh-exclusively, and then mutating.
In short, consider the ramifications of that claim. A chimpanzee, which has 99% of the same DNA as a human, and only started to diverge... what, a few million years ago? I think it's somewhere around 5? Now compare that to, I don't know, a coelophysis and a hummingbird, which have something like a 210 million year difference.
Yeah, no. Birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs, there's no doubt about that, but your claim is along the lines of "I have more genetic background in common with a chimpanzee than I do with some dude from Russia*!"
*Bonus points if you have russian heritage. I just picked a country out of my mental hat.

I admit that birds and Saurchian dinosaurs being closer than chimps and humans may have been an exaggeration and very possibly not true. But, there is significant data, that Birds as we know them are the direct descendants of Saurchian dinosaurs. Note tha Saurchian dinosaurs do not include all dinosaurs.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I don't really unerstand this sort of thing but is it as easy as that to compare the claim that one species is close to a species it potentially evolved from and 2 species who evolved together or in paralel from an ancestor species which may have ben the same. It doesn't feel like the comparison is the same.
As I said I have little knowledge beyond that so yeah... Ignore my silly rambling if it means nothing, thats usually the best thing to do.
