Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Among the various tables scattered about the tavern, likely in a cosy corner, Niara is sat drinking. A half-empty glass of wine is cradled in her left hand, while her right taps slowly at a small data pad on the table. The screen is lit with planar diagrams and maps, which she is squinting quite intently at.
She'd normally use her orrery, but she didn't want to attract attention to herself.
Looking up, she realises how long she's been sat reading, and, more notably, how hungry she was. After shuffling her way between some chairs and scooting around a heated NPC argument, she hops up to the bar.
'Velvet Elfish, please.' Her stomach rumbles audibly. 'Uh... and perhaps some muffins.'

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Rayum's smile fades a bit, she doesn't seem very happy for just having saved him. If he knew she was wishing for adventure he would be shocked. Adventure is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs, wishing it upon ones self is just silly. "Is there anything Rayum can do to repay you Ma'am?"

I am fine without reward, but if anyone comes seeking help, it would be nice of you to send them my way. Venatus smiles a little. She is happy to have helped someone out.

"Rayum doesn't know why anyone would come to Rayum for help Ma'am, but if they do Rayum will send them your way. There isn't anything Rayum can do to help? Rayum would offer to buy you a drink. But Rayum is a little short on money." He says with an apologetic grin finally coming out of his hiding place.

I am OK. I don't need anything.

There's a slight rush of air as a tray of the requested foodstuffs appears in the barwoman's hands and are handed to Niara. "There you are. Nothing to drink?" The muffins are lemon-poppyseed.
The colors on the barwoman's scarf settle down to a solid pattern of stripes, and she looks with some interest at the data-pad.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
'Oh, I'm quite alright at the moment, thank you.' Niara offers a kind smile as she takes her food. Later on she'd likely have a glass of wine or two. At least.
To the untrained eye, the data pad looks to display a complex array of topological diagrams - a map, though not in any geographical sense of the word. To someone with more knowledge, however, it is a diagram portraying different planes of existence, and the energy levels required to travel between them. An inter-dimensional subway map, if you will.
'I've not seen you serving here before,' she comments. She's not exactly a regular to Trog's, but she frequented the place often enough to know the majority of the staff, at least by sight. The scarf is definitely distinctive.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
"You're welcome. Just let me know." Ashna, for that is what the woman is named, smiles back. She gives the map a nod; she's seen such a thing once, but has no idea how to actually read it.
"I've been away on vacation. Was looking for werewolves and trying to find a magical sword." she explains. And of course she stays back mixing drinks or cooking foods, not going around to tables, so to some people, she's been more or less visible. "But I'm usually here. You come to Trog's often then?"
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
'Sounds like more than just a vacation,' Niara comments, before her stomach gives another growl. A hasty mouthful of food is swallowed down to appease her groaning gut. It's certainly not her idea of a holiday, but she's heard of plenty stranger in the Nexus.
'I come here semi-regularly,' she continues. 'I usually stop in here between jobs. It's a pretty convenient location.' Trog's ability to be just around the corner from pretty much anywhere, along with the conveniently-hijackable portal to Inari's, make it particularly advantageous.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Caelynn sits down near Niara.
She'll note two things:
A) She's in a black, obscuring cloak, as if trying not to be seen.
2) She's pregnant. Seems about halfway to childbirth, judging from the size.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Niara is a relatively astute individual, but it takes her a while to figure out it's actually Caelynn. The cloak didn't make things easy, and even once she's caught a glimpse of the Faunus's face, the pronounced bump of her belly makes her second-guess herself.
'Caelynn?' she says tentatively, loud enough to be heard but not so loud as to draw any unwanted attention. 'Is um... is everything okay?'
The pregnancy issue is left unaddressed for the time being. Niara assumes it rude to ask about it.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
"Well, it wasn't all relaxation, but a break from normal, anyway. Never did find the sword, so that was a little frustrating. Was still worth looking." The bartender gets a glass of water for Niara; with that many muffins, she'll likely want it.
"Yeah, I'm still not sure how we manage to be so conveniently located. What is it you do?"
Ashna watches the newcomer arrive, thinking fondly back to when she wore long obscuring cloaks most of the time. "Can I get you anything?" She asks quietly as well, keeping most of her focus on Niara who isn't trying to be nondescript.

No, i'm afraid not.
Caelynn replies to Niara.
Just a soda, please.
She says to Ashna in a non-attention drawing voice.

'That's a shame,' Niara says, to the comment about the sword. She smiles to Ashna in way of thanks for the water, and gulps back a mouthful. 'I like the term Pandimensional Freelancer, as pretentious a title as it is,' she informs the bartender. 'It's pretty varied job, in terms of specific assignments. Most of the time I function as a glorified postwoman, delivering messages or items to folks in different dimensions.'
Caelynn's response warrants a look of concern from Niara. The woman scoots closer to Caelynn, mouthing a polite 'excuse me' to Ashna.
'I don't mean to pry, but can you tell me what's wrong?' Niara whispers. She hadn't known Caelynn for very long at all, but she certainly owed the Faunus a favour. 'If it's something I can help with, then all you need is ask me to.'
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
"Sounds interesting at least." Ashna passes over a fruit soda, and nodding, lets the two talk.
"It'll be alright."

A few influential people and organizations will want to kill me soon if a secret if mine becomes public.
Caelynn replies

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
'Well, that sounds... ominous.' Niara stifles her natural curiosity and doesn't pry further. After all, knowing Caelynn's secret could put herself in danger, simply by way of association. 'If this secret of yours does get out, then I can take you somewhere safe, at least until you figure out what needs to be done. It's the least I can do.'

One of those influential people already knows.
Caelynn replies sorrowfully.
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
'I'd wager that's why you're laying low,' Niara says, gesturing to the cloak. 'Is this somebody likely to publicise your secret? If they are, would you be able to convince them not to?'
Niara wants to rule out all possibilities before she takes Caelynn into her protection. As much as company would be nice on her own little dimensional home, the Tarmikos Studio wasn't designed to house multiple people.

Yes and no.
Caelynn replies forlornly, sipping her soda.

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
*The door to the back room labeled "Proprietor's Residence" opens and a great whirring noise is heard. A troglodyte atop a whirling floor scrubbing machine (presumably steam or magically powered) comes whirring out into the common room, scrubbing the floorboards clean and lightening up the wood by a shade or twelve.
WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
He maneuvers atop the great vibrating thing to lean his weight like a sailor and direct the contraption where to go. A subtle lean arcs it around wooden load-bearing poles and a maneuver rather like Riverdancing seems to get the scrubber to stay in one place and really give particularly dirty spots a good going over to remove the dirt, grime, posters who deadtimed years ago and never came out of it. The usual clutter. The noise makes it difficult to carry on a conversation while the machine is nearby but it seems tolerable enough if its further away.
WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Slowly but surely the bar gets cleaned. At the end of his run Trog leans the machine heavily to one side and directs it back into the back room from whence it came with him on top of it. Moments later the machine turns off and the whirring sound fades.
WRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
Trog steps out and lights a Coffin Nail™ brand cigarette and observes his own handiwork. He looks over at Cosmo.*
Not bad. And to think, the driving skill doesn't come out until 5th edition.
*Turning, he leaves a cloud of smoke in his wake and closes the door once more, returning to whatever it is that occupies the troglodyte for months at a time back there.*

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Poor Caelynn. The girl must be terrified, Niara figures. 'Let's move somewhere a little more private,' she says, standing from her place at the bar and scattering a few coins in Ashna's direction, in payment for the food and beverages. Then, if Caelynn will allow her, she'll take the Faunus's hand and lead her over to one of the fern-shrouded booths that the tavern has.
She pauses as Trog whirrs past on his cleanermobile, wincing slightly at how noisy the thing was.
Niara's drone, which has been present in the background, does not follow her as usual, instead taking up sentry at the front of the tavern. If any suspicious individuals or groups enter looking for Caelynn, Niara should have some advance warning.
Once Niara reaches the booth, she slides her tray of edibles onto the table and takes a seat. 'Caelynn... I know you must be pretty scared right now... but any extra information you can give me would be valuable,' she tells Caelynn, trying to goad more information. She smiles warmly. 'I want to help.'
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Venatus watches the display with interest. Heh, cool. She mutters under her breath. She then goes back to being bored.

Caelynn follows.
Well, first off, what do you know about Reinholdt?
She asks
-
Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Niara taps her chin, thinking for a moment. 'Rings a bell,' she says. Reinholdt is a name she's no doubt heard during her time in the Nexus, but sadly that's the extent of her knowledge. 'I can't put a person to the name though. Is this the influential person you mentioned?'

No.
Well, apparently a long time ago he had a child. Of course, this being the Nexus, it couldn't be ordinary. Apparently there was a prophecy his kid would cause an apocalypse, and nearly did.
Caelynn sighs.
Of course,i learned this after i had a one night stand with him.
There was no prophecy in this case, but most will try to kill me just to be on the safe side.
She replies in the non-overhear voice.

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
Niara listens intently to Caelynn, nodding as she pieces together the puzzle pieces in her head.
'I think I'm beginning to understand the problem,' she says, nodding. As a very rational woman, prophecies and other such ill-omens have little sway with her. That said... this was the Nexus, and she'd already failed to prevent one apocalypse in the past few days...
She pushes the insidious thought to the back of her mind.
'Your safety is definitely a priority right now,' Niara says, 'especially as you're carrying a second person with you. Let me think...'

Re: [Nexus] Trog's Tavern CCXLVII
'Alright, here's what we're going to do,' Niara begins, as she rummages through those deep deep pockets of hers. 'I'm going to give you a way to contact me directly, for starters.'
A sleek-looking business card is slipped to Caelynn, the contact details replaced with a raised circle.
'Just press it if you need me, or get into trouble. I can be with you in an instant.' Niara looks Caelynn straight in the eyes, making sure that she is taking in the information. 'It's what I standardly give people when I offer my services as a bodyguard.'
'I can also have some drones keep watch on you, if you'd like?' she continues, 'I'm not sure how useful they'll be, given the number of different people who might be looking for you.'
'Finally, if things get really intense, I can have you stay in my own, private dimension. You should hopefully be safe there, though it's not ideal in terms of living conditions.' Or, for that matter, the means to deliver and look after a child, should it come to that.
((If Caelynn uses the card, just drop me a PM to tell me where Niara needs to be.))

Maybe one or two drones would be best.
Thank you.
Caelynn says to Niara, gratefulness flooding her voice.
She tries to hug Niara
