I need to watch more Dr. Who. :smallannoyed:
If I remember, the 4-5 and 9-10 transitions were just physical or mental trauma/transitions. The whole 'break down mentally and become a shadow of one's former self' thing hasn't happened, that I know of. Guess I'll have to watch the episodes you mentioned. :smallwink:

Koorly. That was awesome.
And on another note, I seem to have given up any chance at anonymity I had on these forums, I'm befriending Playgrounders left and right.
Then again, my name on Facebook is actually a nickname and that changes fairly often, but still.....

I don't think I could, I enjoy being anonymous. It's the reason I try not to include gendered pronouns about myself.

I haven't seen all of the episodes of the new Who, but it's how I interpret him.
But the episodes I cited are worth a watch, especially anything by Moffat and the maiority of series finales.
I haven't seen much of Classic Who at all, but there may be break downs of that sort. I know after one regeneration (I believe it was the transition from Five to Six) the Doctor went briefly homicidally insane and stuff.

Finally, somebody else has a nickname that changes fairly often as their Facebook name!
Multiple pseudonyms have helped me a lot on there, as you can see. It's like a searchability shield.

If that was the intention, then it sure is working. Well played!
The big thing about the Doctor is his mind, so if something can somehow take that away from him, it's probably about as scary as things can get on Doctor Who. That doesn't mean he doesn't have weak points. After 907 odd years of fighting the evil in the universe, plus losing his entire race and a bunch of other people he cared about, guy has issues.

To be fair, said trademark villain was also the one other remaining member of his species. That doesn't reduce his loneliness (In fact, that's kind of the reason for a lot of it) but it makes the fact the Master's his enemy less relevant. Not to mention the fact they started out as friends before he went evil.

@Dogman: But the point of going out is to spend time with your friends. So, if you like your friends, going out should be a good thing.
Unless they're stupid people who only go to stupid places where you can't socialise properly. But I doubt that.

I do have problems with my mini-story, which I'll be detailing below.
...
So my mini-story's not 100% original, but I don't think there's been an episode or serial or story of Who in which the Doctor is left entirely alone with only his thoughts and absolutely nothing else.
It might not make for good television though as it's essentially a forty minute in-depth character study of the Doctor with no action whatsoever, and only occasional interruptions by others.
Obviously, (as Moffat has stated no RTD companions will ever come back) we can use any of the villains, Amy, Rory, River Song, some one-off characters from Eleven - personally I think bringing back Sacred Bob would be a good idea. Imagine the guilt.
It'd be like Midnight, but no conflict. And the monster du iour would be the Doctor himself. I don't know how to class this possible House of Nothing yet.
I think if an episode like that was made it would be either 'utterly boring' or 'creepy'.
EDIT:
I got off topic.
As far as Doctor abuse goes I present the following:
Midnight, The Waters of Mars, Victory of the Daleks (minor), Turn Left, The Pandorica Opens and all the hints leading up to it, Utopia/The Sound of the Drums/Last of the Time Lords, The End of Time; any time he regenerates, any time he loses a companion (by death, them leaving him or AU), the fact that he killed his entire race twice (talk about survivor's guilt), every time he's had to kill a species - ah! The Fires of Pompeii, there's more.
Really, the Doctor is an immortal woobie punching bag. He's 903-ish years old, has died twelve or thirteen times, has lost countless friends, companions and associates and he lives on.
He was in tears when one of his trademark villains (The Master) died. How lonely must you be to have to beg someone who's almost as evil as the Daleks to survive and travel with him?!
That's why leaving the Doctor utterly alone would kill him.
Or it would force him into an introspection on his own moral compass, and create a story where he has to keep himself from going insane in a house that he cannot escape.
Alone. Utterly alone.
There's a good chance he would start by making himself companions out of inanimate objects. This would be a good drawing point for a "villain".
The house would not even have to be a magical being. His own psyche could shatter him. [/QUOTE]

Valid, but not the problem. The problem here is people who do NOT go to Facebook every day to check on the status of their friends. Specifically, this refers to my cousin who announced his engagement party...on Facebook. He did not announce it at any other point, and it was only because someone who does not regularly check Facebook found out about it at a different party that the information was distributed off of Facebook.
What I am saying is that Facebook is not the proper way to distribute this information because you CANNOT COUNT ON A PERSON SEEING YOUR WALL POSTS. Especially because wall posts become old and fall off of a person's wall updates, so they may never even get a chance to see it, and could very easily pass it right by.

I read that as "The horse would not even have to be magical being."
I have a thing about horses, just because I think if they ever wanted to take over Britain, they could. All they'd need to do would be to turn on the monarchy (easy) and destroy Parliament (from Central London, also easy). What with their proximity to the military as well, they stand a good chance of completely destroying the government. Then they broadcast their intentions to the rest of horse-kind... I don't know how easily other nations could be taken over by horses, but I imagine there are other European nations that would face similar annihilation.
...
Why am I talking about horses taking over the world again? :smallconfused:

But how does he appear? It can't iust be in the TARDIS, because then he could iust leave. These things have to be thought through. Also if he has enough time he could probably set up a resonance pattern in the concrete and crumble the walls.
If you deprive him of the sonic screwdriver, then it's a serious issue.
Actually, something like this would really be very fitting for the current arc. Silence Will Fall. And stick the Doctor all alone in a room with nothing in it and he will babble to himself iust to fill the silence until his lips and tongue and throat are all too sore and the silence goes on, like a black hole consuming all sound...
Come to think of it, that also makes it rather appropriate that the Doctor has a sonic screwdriver. Sound/noise, very much his kind of atmosphere. He hates silence. Thinking about it, I'm sure Stephen Moffat must have had this exact thought before.

Hence why you post such a thing as an event, so everyone invited gets a notification. Post it decently in advance so people will see it. Know your friends' facebook habits, so if some people don't check so often, inform them some other way. And if it's important, contact people who haven't replied to the event invitation some other way as the event approaches.

You didn't ask?
A couple of times there was a thread in FB called Facebookers in the Playground, which naturally had a link in the first post. But those threads wouldn't last too long, because what can you really say beyond "I have facebook! I ioined the group! Yaaay!"
