Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Yeah, most people tend to be more than just a little specisist/racist against dragons.
Especially chromatic ones.
Even a non-evil chromatic dragon would be killed on sight.
Diplomacy won't work when almost everyone in the whole world is completely genocidal towards your kind.
"DRAGON! KILL"
"But i'm not evi-" *Get's lynched by angry mob*
"KILL IT AND MAKE BOOTS OF IT'S HIDE!"

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Yeah, why even bother trying to not be evil when everyone is just going to try to kill you anyway?
And if you try to defend yourself then you just reinforce the belief that you are an evil beast that must be killed.
Basically, trying to not be evil is just plain not worth it.
No wonder there are so few chromatics who ever bother trying in the first place.
And those who do get killed before anyone can realize that they aren't as evil as everyone thinks.
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
That's.... a decent point.
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Being good is about doing the right thing whether or not it's convenient to do so.

I don't think so. Being a paladin and having Zone of Truth handy helps.

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Downward spiral of genocide simply put.
If you want to prove to the humans that you are not evil then you have to stop killing them in self defense when they try to kill you.
Problem is that if you do that they will kill you instead.
And on the off chance that they realize that you are not evil...you likely already be dead at that point.
And if by some miracle they get the hint earlier and leave you alone someone else will just come along and kill you instead.
Whoops.
In short, trying to not be evil just makes it even more likely for you to be horrifically butchered by adventurers.
Because then you are not even allowed to fight back when they attack you because doing so would reinforce the "OMG EVIL!!!!11!" belief.
And who said anything about being Good?
There are the neutral alignments too you know.
Heck, Tinder is Lawful Neutral.

With good reason. You must also take the villagers choices in consideration. "Treat Nice" = 99.9% risk of being burned to a crisp. "Attack" = 0.1% risk of damaging or killing an innocent. I know what I'd bet on.
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
And when you do end up killing an innocent, then what?
Congratulations, you are now a murderer.
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
I'd rather be a murderer than dead. That's why I'm not Good.
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Pre-emptive murder.
There's a chance that someone might be a threat in the future, so you kill him right here and now.
And then when it turns out you were wrong...
And to make matters worse, justice won't be served because dragons aren't protected by the law, so you end up having murdered an innocent person and getting away with it.
Funny how it's okay when a human does that to a non-human, but if a non-human does the exact same thing to a human you end up with an angry mob who wants to kill you.
Humans are hypocrites like that.
If it's okay for the human then it damn well is okay for the monster.
Equal rights and all that you know.
But nope, humans believe that it's okay for them but not for any other race.

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
I think it's better to Take This Elsewhere.

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Agreed, let's not clutter up Coffee's thread with morality debates.
...So, where should we take this?
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
I was planning on stopping. DXD
We could talk via PM, or make a thread about the morality.

I agree. The town people seem to think that "the Green Dragon" was evil and terrorizing the town. It would be very hard to convince them Tinder is not evil.

Okay, I'm going to just state the facts here, give my opinion, and leave the rest in your hands to decide.
Tinder's family was the head of a large, illegal smuggling ring that operated in Roihu province, smack-dab in the center of the Kyarian Federation. This black market and smuggling ring did attract several criminals into the area, and made trading and transport of goods in the area hell, especially between Runite (A port city to the south, the largest city-state in the Kyarian Federation), and Jacoval, the capital of Tobeem (A frigid, ice-bound land to the north; think a cross between Russia and Switzerland). It also severely hurt the local economy in Roihu. After the dragons were killed, trading via land became much, much easier, and several companies flourished. One company, the Golden Eagle Shipping And Trading Corporation, was suffering because most of their shipments were on land. The effective reopening of major land trade routes, combined with the decision by the company leader to branch into shipping by sea routes, made this company rich in the past 50 years.
Furthermore, although the attraction of unsavory criminals was NOT intended on the dragons' part, and the dragons refused to kill anyone or cause serious injury, nevertheless they did not take effective measures to deal with the criminals, and frequently used intimidation and violence to get what they wanted.
In short, the dragons were criminals, and the citizens needed to deal with them.
However, hiring mercenaries to kill the entire family, especially in so brutal a fashion, should not have been the first course of option here, which it was. The dragons may have responded to open negotiation if stated with the facts, but the citizens had no way of knowing that. And they didn't even know Tinder was born at this time. (He was 12, a little kid in dragon terms.)
Furthermore, Tinder has, on occasion, raided livestock, albeit for his own survival. And then there's the "Virgin's blood" incident...
We must also realize that the mercenaries killed Lyrnain on a glorified hunch. (A hunch that turned out to be correct, but still...). And they weren't apprehensive of the possibility that they just killed someone who was NOT a green dragon.
In short, everybody was wrong here.
The only ones who were close to being right were the mayor and the rest of the council, who only wanted to protect their town, and Tinder, who was wise enough to refrain from taking revenge despite having every reason to do so.

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
Moving on.
Other than Asta Kask's "Lloyd and Janine's child is half-dragon," any fanart wish? Or a fanfiction wish, for that matter?
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
I have 10 gps saying Closak wants a picture of the female greenskins in seductive positions (dragon form, natch.) :smallwink:
-
Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
I want the hypothetical daughter of Lloyd and Radic, with a halberd, medium armour and a wolf. <3
But... that's too silly, probably.
Especially considering I'm me: If she wasn't EXACTLY right, I wouldn't be happy...

Re: Murphy's Law (Thread 2!)
i want a giant flameing flamingo rideing the back of a turtle while weilding a sword, and a morningstar. wearing tribal war paint, and screaming a battle cry.

Pretty well explanitory, coffee. And quoting me no less, I'm flattered.
Minor nitpicking. Wyrmlings are from birth to age 5. At 12 years of age, he's under the "Very Young" category. So ya.:smalltongue:
