Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
When Roy talks to the mummies he just destroyed at the end of #861, he doesn't look at the bodies, but upwards.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I always liked how in #819 Tarquin explains five of the six members of the OOTS to Malack by their strategic value, but resorts to storytelling to explain Belkar's presence.
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I also just noticed haley's failure at the bandit camp, partly seen in controling Belkar in strip 157, shows long before azure city that she isn't the best leader

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I just noticed in 909 that Haley was spitting out sand after the elemental dropped her.
And now I just noticed (via the discussion thread for it) that the page where Girard's gate explodes (899) is titled krackkakkooooom899.gif. Awesome! Are any other secrets hidden like that?
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
#819, panel 5: I'm pretty sure Tarquin is looking at Nale as he speaks, though we don't get the reveal until the last few panels.

Nothing before 899! When the comic came out, someone spotted that and did a bulk pull of the comic filenames, and they were all just gibberish. No being sure on post-899 (well, I mean, you could check yourself, but it means there's no quick and easy answer right now), but it seems unlikely.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I just noticed that on #424 page 2 panels 5-7 the mook throws V the scroll. I guess I should have noticed since that is the only point of those panels. But I only just noticed
Edit: I also just noticed that when the Pokemon reference of palidins summoning their mounts the first time there is is a "sound" pika then when hinjo summons argent there is a "choo".
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
He looks right-side-up to me.
But what I hadn't noticed before is that the side of V he's on is flipped - something that continues into their next appearance.
Edit: And now the post I was responding to isn't there anymore...?

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I just noticed in the flashback on strip #725 the red dragon is thin. Thus she gained all that weight in only 2 years

See panel 2 here.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
The 5th panel of 654; I just noticed the impaled demon-roach disappearing with a "poof!"

Meaning either:
1) She made it herself, or got it custom made.
2) Azure City now has a shop selling Xykon plushies.

OK, thanks. I may check if I can find time. (Good excuse for an archive binge, anyway)

In the latter case, that means someone, either human or goblinoid, is mass-marketing dolls of the person (??) responsible for the deaths if hundreds, if not thousands, of their people. Ewww.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
When Roy meets Horace Greenhilt, I just noticed Eric saying "grampa!!!" Since Sara showed up relatively recently, and I can't imagine leaving a 3-year-old alone in a Good afterlife, I think Horace took care of him until Sara died and he could move up. One of her lines also suggests that he comes down to visit them, even from the higher levels of heaven.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I just noticed in #868 panel 4 Belkar causes the dog to raise up. I always assumed it was luck that made the arrows hit

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
Comic #112:
:roy: "YOU BROKE MY SWORD!"
-Goes Lou Ferrigno on Xykon.
Comic #795:
:roy: to :thog: "We have nothing in common!"
:thog: "[YOU] BROKE [MY] TUSK!
-Goes Lou Ferrigno on Roy.
It seems perhaps Roy and Thog have more in common than he would like to admit. I doubt it is a coincidence that Roy tells Thog they are nothing alike right before Thog does the exact same thing Roy did.

Youre forgetting one critical thing: Roy won both fights.

Which is fascinating, really. I'd have guessed Lou Ferrigno, well known for his title role in The Incredible Hulk, would be a patron of barbarians instead of fighters.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
Every so often I realize Spoiler: minor Start of Darkness spoiler
Show
that even though Roy repeatedly mentions Xykon killing Master Fyron and his son, the son never appeared in SoD, and we never saw the death that I can recall... nor was it even referred to in that book.

Yeah, it's sort of a notorious mystery, because while it would be easy enough to assume the son was just retconned away, Roy mentions him along with Fyron in
434 - which, IIRC, came out
after SoD. Still probably just a continuity error (or he died offscreen and it wasn't important enough to show), but I don't think the Giant has ever actually said anything.
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
I always figured it was forthcoming, probably to show Eugene interacting with Fyron Jr.
-
Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
That's an interesting possibility; if it happens, I also foresee either Eugene taxing Roy over how Fyron Jr. was going to follow in his father's footsteps (unlike Roy), or Roy taxing Eugene with how he's still more broken up over Fyron Jr.'s death than he was over Roy's.
In other words, opportunity for yet more bickering between these two.

This is a discussion thread for people who re-read the comic and notice things they never noticed before. Anyone can jump in at any time to post a new thing they never noticed; unlike most threads, there's no single overall subject, but rather a theme.

For further clarification, a forum rule means that threads can only run for less than 1500 posts. Once we get close to that limit, we must continue in a new thread. This is now part five of the thread.
A forum tradition is that on starting a new part of the thread, we give it a Roman numeral, and a subtitle. This being part five it gets the number V, and the subtitle is a joke referring to the character V not paying attention to his/her familiar.

Re: Things You Never Noticed V: Your Familiar
In panel 11, Haley expresses annoyance that Celia knows somewhat esoteric information about animals, but doesn't know about humans' abilities. This makes sense, since sylphs have +10 to Knowledge (Nature), but their Knowledge (Local) is untrained.
