The Implacable, Area 01, The Blasted Isle
The knightmares made an abrupt about-face, pausing only long enough to deliver a short message to the Forsaken before fleeing from the storm of magic.
"Very well. Consider this you final warning - make this a war, and you will be crushed. Behold a tiny fraction of the power of Teppelin!"
On the distant horizon, a light glinted. For long moments, nothing happened... then the Implacable was bathed in crimson light, as the ground beneath it cracked and buckled. With a thunderous boom, hundreds of blood-colored lances of energy erupted from the earth. They slammed through the massive golemship, devastating critical systems and slaying crew and passengers en-mass. The ship remained mist-worthy... but only barely.
Baron Fredrik, The Spire, Area 06
The situation was degrading quickly. Too quickly for his tastes. At this rate, he may have to call in favors he would rather keep... but debts did no good to a dead man. As much as it galled Fredrik to beg aid of his former peers, he may well have no choice. But not yet.
That babbling girl had been most informative. While she had seemed hesitant to give a physical description of this "William", her general overview of his powers correlated nicely with the irritating man who had barged into his office a few days ago. A river-mage... the archives on the obscure magic-users were not as detailed as those of the more conventional spellcasters, but a name could be put it. What could be named could be understood. What could be understood could be controlled... or crushed.
The first thing he had done was to order several key location in the Spire to be warded. The barracks, the armory, the infirmary, the garage where the knightmares were kept, and of course his office and the war room. The human would not be crippling them with petty magics. The Spire's full scrying capacity was being used to try and track down the man. But one could never have too many contingencies - hence the box in front of the Baron. With a flick of a switch, he began his broadcast, his image flickering into being in the air of the Bastion.
"Humans of Area 06, this is an announcement for your own safety. In the past days, it has come to our attention that an individual going by the name of 'Wilzako' or 'William Penkappa' has been fomenting terrorist activity." The image of the Baron was joined by a sketch - it wasn't
quite William, but it was very, very close.
"This man has been convicted of assaulting a peacekeeper, breaking and entering the Spire, and conspiracy in a plot to cause unprecedented amounts of death. He should be considered extremely dangerous, and is a known magic-user. Please, if you have any information regarding this man - any at all - inform a peacekeeper patrol." Fredrik folded his hands across his desk and nodded solemnly.
"In this trying time, we must put aside our differences and work together - all of us - to prevent another tragedy like the one that took place twenty years ago. That is all."
He switched off the transmitter, locking it securely. Now, all that remained was to wait for the worm to be found...
