It's the space in the "Oots art" part, I think.

Well, shoot! That is bizarre... Do the other avatars in the same folder fail to work as well?
Maybe try re-uploading it?
Remove the space from the folder name. By that, I mean, actually rename it on your Photobucket account.
The message didn't come up.
Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3...
EDIT:  Thanks for the help!
Could somebody either 'Lower Planarize' or 'Eldrich Horrorize' my avatar for Halloween? You know, either sea-of-lava, fiendish-dire-whale, horned-Ahab, or endless-void, cthulhu-Ahab kinda thing. Thanks!
Edit: I thought that was only for SHOWING OFF your halloween avatars. My bad, I guess, but that doesn't mean someone can't help me out here.
You want this thread.
I don't know if this will work or not, but I can not get this URL to work http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Canis_lupus_265b.jpg I tried removing the underscores, and that did not work. I so wish that the custom avatar were not so sensitive, or would at least permit you to upload it from your computer!
First: that image is huge. As such, you need to make it smaller if possible to make it fit.
Second: you really should not use avatars on sites you do not own, or that are not on an account of yours on a picture sharing site.
Third: you're linking to a website, not an image. This is the link to the image.
What you need is a Photobucket or Imageshack account. Whenever you want to upload avatars or pics into this forum, save them to your hard drive, put them in the Photobucket account, and use that link. That way you won't have to worry about the image disappearing or anything like that.
EDIT: Also, as Rose Dragon said, that image is huge. The forum doesn't resize them for you. =/ You'll have to do that yourself.
It would also be easier if you could just upload it from your computer. Oh well, I will set up a photobucket account and try again, THX. OK, I got a photobucket account and I want to use this pic http://s1087.photobucket.com/albums/...t=MyAvatar.jpg Problem is, I can not figure out how to get to just the file. Maybe if someone could either describe the steps or if someone could just give me the URL I would be very appreciative. YES! I GOT IT! Note for any one else with this problem about finding the image on photobucket, just right click, go to properties, and then copy and paste. THX for the help everyone!
If someone would please help me with my avatar, I would be very grateful
This is the picture I want to use, but when I try to post it, it only shows the top left corner.
Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is it that you want it to be larger? If so, you'll just need to resize it. Using photobucket you can do it easily enough. Just click on it, click resize, and then make it 34 x 120 and click apply. That probably won't center it in the avatar box for you, but at least it'll fill from top to bottom.
Another option would be to open a 120x120 canvas on MS Paint/Photoshop/Inkscape/your program of choice, resize it, and put it in the center of the picture. Then save it and use the new picture, instead.
I had a problem editing the white background out of my avatar, in PNG format. It kept getting the white background whenever I uploaded it on flickr, though it does not get the white background when I upload it at ImageShack.
@^: Wild guess but I'd say that's flickr's problem. If you want a fail-safe solution, you can always copy the forum's background color and set it as the avatar's.
I've been trying to create an avatar in inkscape, but even with the dimensions at the max, the image still comes out much too small and distorted. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Okay, never mind that. But as you can see, it's still very pixellated. Help would be nice.
OK General question, how do you edit URLs on Photobucket? I have been trying for a while, and I can't figure it out. So that there is nothing after the .jpg, .gif, etc?
For all the people who are looking for image hosting sights Imgur was helpful for me. It's pretty straightforward. I got confused by Photobucket, so I just thought I'd give another option. (not spam :smallwink:)
Not working. I can't edit the URL. Is there any site where I can change the URL to a format that will be accepted? I Think I got it from here (it helps if you set it to custom LOL:smallbiggrin:)
Why are you trying to edit the url? What's appearing after the file extension that needs to be edited out?
Nevermind. That is not an issue anymore. I have a new issue though. It is perfectly within the size restrictions (59X99) but it is not showing up entirely.
Never mind. For some reason (I had to reupload it), it used the old, deleted file instead of the new one.
Well, I got it to work, but after seeing how small it appears at max pixels, I think I will just forget about it.
This really helped! good job
Hello. I was trying my new avatar from the pony thread and learned that, dispite me following the guidlines ,the avatar will not show up for me.
Here is the pictures file number

Help!
I don't see any reason why putting that url into the box shouldn't work. What exactly happens when you do so? An error message? A red x in your avatar location?
The above messege is what I got when i entered it into the Custom Avatar URL area.Quote:
You did not enter the correct format for the Custom Avatar URL field. Please read the field description for the expected format.
Edit Just got a red x in my avatar space.
Hmm...I just tried it with the link you gave and it worked for me. Make sure you're using just the url starting with "http://" and ending with ".png"; no [url] or [img] tags are needed.
Okay, I am going to test again.
Edit: Nevermine, got it working. Thanks for the help, savanna.
Hello guys, i just made a custom avatar in paint and then used irfanview to transparence it and make it 117x117, i uploaded it to photobucket but it doesnt fit in the linkbar, what can i do :( thank you for help ^^.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "doesn't fit in the linkbar" :smallconfused: I've never had trouble with long URLs; I just copy and paste them in. The only thing I can think of is check to make sure you don't have [img] or [url] tags around it -- that makes it say that the image is in the wrong format (or something similar).
The link is here
:smallfrown: its too long that last pn"g" doesnt fit in the bar of custom avatar URL
sorry for my english if im not neat ^^
I believe that you will most likely run into problem number 2 if it did fit, that the folder name you use on photobucket contain spaces. If I remember correctly the board software is allergic to them and refuse to show the avatars from the folders in question.
So to kill two birds with one stone I suggest this:
Change the album-name on photobucket to something without spaces which is also shorter than the current name. "Oots" or "OotsArtwork" are two possible candidates.
You can also create a new album if that works better.
OK now im able to show my avatar thanks to you ^^ hey, wait, whats that? a white spot near mouth which is actually "not" there?! owow :( lol
Guys the only problem now i have is the bad looking graphics what can i do to make it look better (i remember when i used irfanwiev without resizing and transperencing it was looking nice like yours).
Correction; Even the saved file by irfanwiev looks nice but when i upload its screwed, help please, thank you very much.
I've never used irfanwiev or Photobucket, so I have no idea if they're doing something to the image. I've never seen Photobucket make an avatar look jagged, though :smallconfused: How big was your original image? And what program did you make it in?
I created it in paint and worked while it was 400x400 and after it was done shrinked it via irfanview to 117x117 and i still control, it seems too good, but when uploaded to phbucket it is jagged as u said :smallwink: maybe you could suggest an upload website? thank you!
Weird. You could try uploading it to ImageShack (that's what I use), but if that doesn't work, I've got nothing :smallconfused:
I'm gonna go crazy still the same (imageshack is better :P)
OK, i left paint and started using inkscape, its a great program :D, and i managed to do the right avatar for me, it doesnt seem to have the problem now, thank you everyone! :smallwink:
I just want to see what the existing avatar options look like. How can I do that? I just registered, and there's a big list to pick from, but how do i know which one to pick?
Thanks!
Other than changing my avatar through the control panel and then reloading this page, I mean.
This seems to be the place to ask about such things: My custom avatar shows up just fine for me, from multiple computers, but someone just told me in a PM that it doesn't show up for them. It should be a stick figure holding an hourglass. First of all, do most people see it, and second, if not, does anyone know why not? I'm hosting it myself on my desktop, a Mac running an Apache server.
You don't need to set height and width anymore.
Make sure what you're entering in the URL field starts with "http" and ends with ".pgn", ".jpg" or ".gif". Not "[img]" and "[/img]" (that always messes me up!). Where are you hosting your image? Sometimes the URL the hosting site gives doesn't work right and you need to rightclick the image and get the URL there. If you're still having trouble and you want to post your image here, we can take a look and see if we can figure out the URL for you.
You seem to have your avatar set up correctly on this end. Your avatar is set to http://cassandra.physics.montana.edu/chronos.gif , which is the proper format. That address is a real internet address (it maps to 153.90.194.99 and that address does respond to pings). However, my PC can't connect to the webserver on your machine. It looks like something is blocking people outsude Montana State from connecting to it. Probably trying to stop people hosting music or other copyrighted content without permission.
You could try hosting the webserver on a different port (see http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/change_apache_port.html ) and then modify the URL to point to that port, but it still might not work.
That might be... The other computer I've checked it from is also within montana.edu . Things I've hosted in this way have worked in the past for outsiders, but it might be a new restriction. I'll look into that.Quote:

Anybody mind doing a super obese, and super happy, 4e Doppelganger sitting down with a Black Dagger in one hand, a huge red twirled sucker, and black studded leather?
EDIT: If you are saying no because I have no prerequisites, I have had an account before, but I lost my login information for it, as well as the Email it was tied to.
This isn't the thread for requesting custom avatars; it's for getting tech help with it. There is a thread for what you want, though, down in the Arts and Crafts forum.
Happy to help, and no need to apologize. Welcome back, by the way.
I followed the instructions to the letter but got this error message:
"You did not enter the correct format for the Custom Avatar URL field. Please read the field description for the expected format."
Here is the URL I entered.
http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps0518388d.jpg
What's wrong?
You have the image uploaded into a photobucket folder with a space in the folder name ("Audiophile gear"). Rename the folder to remove the space and the new url should work.
On a related note, that avatar will be too big -- it is currently 200x244 px and the maximum size is 120x120 px. If you don't resize it, you will only be seeing the top left corner.
My avatar's link is too long to fit in the appropriate bar. It cuts it off at the point marked by the roach and then doesn't work properly.
http://i1342.photobucket.com/albums/o780/ProudTortoise/99644acd-7aa2-4224-9497-fbdb3542c9eb_zps5131:roach:04ff.jpg
Right click the image and save it to your computer, rename the file, then reupload it like so. (You're welcome to use that link if you like.)
I can't find out where I can change my avatar, did that get disabled too?
User CP -> Edit Options -> scroll to the very bottom and you should be able to change your avatar.
Read through this whole thread and followed all the instructions and advice but the avatar won't show for me. I get no error messages and I made sure it was the right size. Does it show for anyone else?
