There are a few places that will take Euros, but they are very much the exception. Most places only accept sterling.

You can't parody a parody, which is what Gangnam Style is, so I haven't even bothered watching "parodies" of it.
The meme machine is a harsh mistress. You excuses aren't that poor though, I can understand not liking something because it's popular. I think that's fundamentally stupid, but I don't have any right to say your point is invalid (except in jest).
But hey, sulking's fun right

Hmm, I disagree. It is possible for things to become a bit overly cannibalistic, but parodying parody is certainly possible.

Something's popularity should be largely irrelevant to how much one likes it. However, things which are more popular will have a greater exposure, which reduces the time before you get sick of it. It also has a wider fanbase, which means it's less judiciously distributed and modified. Things which are less popular are more likely to remain unspoiled. They're also more likely to attract exclusively people who share your opinion on <whatever it is>.
There's the similar "exclusivity effect", too. Take classical music, for instance. Pretty much everyone is in agreement that Mozart and Beethoven are awesome. However, they're so awesome that their names have transcended their genre and are known universally. So if you ask someone who really knows what they're talking about who their favourite composer is, they'll almost never name either of those two, because there'd be nothing in that answer to give you an insight into their expertise.
At least M&B, though, are dead, so their material can't change. Those things which are still in production can, and unless they're particularly stubborn it's difficult to resist the call of many fans. So things which become popular tend to move towards the middle ground and lose a lot of what made them good in the first place. That's in addition to any quality the thing loses in having been around for a long time in the first place. Quite often a thing needs to have been around for some time and is already at its peak of quality when it becomes popular. Then the popular drive towards mediocrity becomes confused with an inevitable decline in quality anyway.
So, I think there is valid reason for disliking something "because it's popular", even if it's slightly more complex than it first appears.
-
Re: Mynxae's Maliciously Magnificent Random Banter #183
Exactly, which is why I say I can't just dismiss his reasoning. Not only is everyone entitled to their own opinion, they may have a really good reason for their opinion.

No, you can parody a parody, but if you try to parody a parody of a parody, then you start to get a bit niche. :smallwink: Eventually you wind up playing it completely and utterly straight though, IIRC.
That or you divide by zero.

Phew, I'm back home again. I must say that my involuntary absence from here was starting to get a bit on my nerves. I don't like leaving loose threads behind me. And I haven't slept good either, despite the fact that I fixed both the brightness and the temperature problem, and I'm probably catching a cold. Way to wind down after a stressfull week... :smallsigh:
Oh well, at least I'm back to my own bed and all my plushies again. That should hopefully alleviate the worst of the insomnia.
These last two days were pretty eventless. We burned down a huge pile of branches and I admired some clouds. There probably happened some other stuff as well, but I'm a bit too tired to remember right now. I would've slept in the car hadn't I been physically incapable of doing such a thing. There just has to be some drawback to my love of eventless car rides, doesn't there...?

Try installing flux on your computer. It dims the light and changes the color temperature when night falls. It makes the computer much more conducive to sleeping instead of staying up on the computer all night. There's a lot of good research behind it supposedly but I haven't read it so all I can tell you is that I really like it.

I mostly focus on the parts that don't fly past that fast, but yeah. The constantly changing landscape combined with the small sphere of reference (especially at night) is probably what makes it for me.
Also, I remembered some more. We dug up a few potatoes mum had planted in the garden, and two were red as rubies. Very pretty and very tasty. Then mum picked blackcurrant and cooked cordial (or whatever I should call a drink that's basically cooked fruit/berry juice and sugar. We call it "saft" in Swedish) from it. Deepest red and very very tasty!

Trust me, computers were the slightest of my problems up there. The room lacked enough curtains to keep out the morning light, which in turn woke me up all to early and prevented me from going back to sleep, so I had to craft makeshift cardboard curtains to block the windows with. And the whole house is quite old and poorly insulated, and the blanket was too thin, so I had to get myself a second blanket to keep myself warm. What still messed up my sleep, however, was the distinct lack of a certain pink toy hippo going by the (quite unimaginative) name Flodhäst.

True, but in this case I think that's ok, since the parody is so far away from the other parody that it cancels out the fact that they are parodying a parody.

I don't think it cancels it out, I think it makes it more awesome.
When I read that in one of the games, Deadpool can attack his opponents with his own life bar, he instantly became my favourite character.

Do not worry on promptness, the banter has seen longer back quoted replies. I also hope the reason for the inhospitality for sitting and writing is not based on negative circumstances but fast paced series of energy draining joyful events.

Indeed, by tailor I mean the man who makes my clothes. I stopped by on Saturday to pick something up just as he was closing, and he invited me to the back for a drink. We got to talking for a while, and he showed me his brewing equipment and gave me a bottle.
This weekend has been just wonderful. Yes -- a fast-paced series of energy-draining joyful events. I couldn't have said it better myself. But indeed, your words particularly on interpretation of the old masters as more than an echo were really helpful, and changed my thinking. I still would like to compose at some point, but I feel less useless about only ever wanting to play Bach now.
There is more to say than that, however
In the mean time, do you have any recommended listening for the Toho video game you mentioned?

Absolute bollocks. That's the theories of people trying to show all native americans to be useless and uncivilized. They're dated to what, the 1000 AD at the very latest? I think some of the Mississippi cultures may be from a little before.

It's just joking around fun, is all. It's like saying "Oh, you and that girl should totally date!"

But... the Egyptians who sailed to America were fleeing from the trannical rule of the aliens! They were... THE EGYPTIAN PILGRIMS, most civilized of all ancient peoples. /needed to make an alien joke.

Have you met the internet? Shipping is just the practice of pretending two people either are in a relationship or want to be in one, regardless of all evidence to the contrary. It's mostly done with fictional characters, but IRL shipping is more fun because you get the reactions of those being shipped.
EDIT:Ninja'd with a simpler explanation. I really need to be less wordy. Seriously, my pleonasms are becoming increasingly redundant.

I think we can find people descended from the Mayans. Now finding people actually descended from the Egyptians of Antiquity, I don't recall how tricky that is, but I imagine it's not a huge obstacle, considering that apparently despite the best efforts of the Angles and Saxons and Jutes and Danes and Swedes and Norwegians and Scottia, most ethnic-English are still predominantly Brythonic Celt, IIRC.
So I'm pretty sure that we could actually check to a certain extent. Indeed, if I could find a source to back it up, I'd actually go so far as to swear that they'd already checked.
As it is... I sincerely doubt it.

Complete nonsense. The only reason they both used pyramids is because it's the easiest way to build a tall building.
With enough blocks, you can build anything to any height using that technique.
And on the Mayans, they still exist. There's a couple million of them I think...
