I don't know how long that takes, but it varies depending on the item in question.
I believe the minimum is always 7 years, and that's for things like drugs.

I can't remember all the details, but that sounds about right as a minimum...
I think it's longest for books, but again, I can't remember.
Also, I'm going to bed because it's one thirty.
Goodnight everyone!

I know it's wrong, but the idea that it's should never be experienced again by anyone because a company decided to not produce it is kinda annoying.
I'm going to put a stop to this right here. Please don't discuss piracy here, not even the ethics of it. If you wish to find links to academic sources for a paper, without discussion/commentary, that may be granted, PM a moderator such as myself.
For the years before works of art fall into public domain, you should look up copyright law. For inventions, patent law.

In other news, who here likes cake? I like cake? I like food in general. Too bad I don't have any right now XP

Re: Serpentine's Secretly Sapphic Salacious Sacrarium of Random Banter #180
Everybody likes cake. Cake has layers.
You know what else everybody likes? Parfait.
-
Re: Serpentine's Secretly Sapphic Salacious Sacrarium of Random Banter #180
Can I mention that Project Gutenberg is a legal way to read out-of-copyright books? I believe there's a few sites that allow you to play (the game equivalent of) out-of-copyright games legally, too.
-
Re: Serpentine's Secretly Sapphic Salacious Sacrarium of Random Banter #180
Well, if it's out of copyright, we're not discussing piracy.
So.. What do you guys think of Captain Jack Sparrow? :smalltongue:

Parfait? What's that? (I could google it, but that would only get me the general definition, not what you've tried.)

Hardly counts as piracy if it's legal. :smalltongue:
But be careful, not all books are out of copyright in all countries.

He's overplayed. He's funny, yes, but way overplayed now.

Overpriced ice cream, basically.
Also, everyone might like cake, but.

Really? I've never heard that before. It seems a bit counterintuitive .The distinction between the Med and the Atlantic is easier to make than that between the Arctic and Atlantic, or Arctic and Pacific, or the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, or the Southern Ocean and pretty much anything else.

Yea, I was going to say.
I know that some companies purposefully set up parts of their 'shop' in countries where copyright is either much longer than the US or it never goes out of copyright, so that they can always argue that someone is infringing on their copyright.
Which of course means that because of 'think of the children' doctrine, we shouldn't even have Project Gutenberg.
Anyway, I have to make parfait several times a morning for my job, so I'm not a huge fan.
We use lowfat yogurt, to, so it tastes unappetizing.
I will never understand diet and low fat items.
Or low-sodium soy sauce, since soy sauce is just water, food coloring, soy and salt anyway.

Given that we were talking about the deliciousness of layered things, I feel I should comment...
...layered spoilers, only rarely tasty. =P
Also,Tony Montana > Captain Jack Sparrow. That is all. =3

Oh don't worry, we're just joking around. I found it kind of funny, though diserving of a squeaky toy hammer to the head *bonk*

Re: Serpentine's Secretly Sapphic Salacious Sacrarium of Random Banter #180
It's a good thing it didn't have more layers than an ogre.

Hey. Whoa, now. *holds up hands appeasingly* There's no need to bring out the big guns. Why don't we all just calm down instead of making threats we might regret. *backs away slowly* :smalleek:

It's sad that the first thing I thought of when you said Ogre was Piers Anthony.
Worst books in the children's section ever.

Naw, the worst book I've seen in the children's section is Elfen Lied and Twilight.

It's sad that Rawhide seems to have been the only person so far to have got the original reference.

Are you saying you dislike Elfen Lied, or just that it has absolutely no place in the children's section?

Twilight should be make into one of those books you study in school.
Because no one likes the books they are forced to read and no one wants anything to do with them again after they have had to write novel long essays on small sections of the book.

But Rawhide...that would require you to have intelligent discussion about that book. And that would be terrible. =P

But why ruin perfectly good books by using them in school? Surely the best books should be saved for those who actually want to read them...

The Dastard.
The 15th book in the Xanth series, right after Question Quest. (Hint, it starts with "The Color of Her".)

The latter. I haven't read Elfen Lied myself.

See, the thing is...I can get behind this. Have the module on the book be called "how not to write abook". Have discussion of the implications of the book, ie pedophilia, necrophilia, domination, stalkerism, and the like. Twilight is one of those terrible books where you can get so much out of it by discussing intelligently about it. The contents of the book are garbage, but they can provide stepping stones TO inteligent discussion.

Re: Serpentine's Secretly Sapphic Salacious Sacrarium of Random Banter #180
Twilight's not that bad. There are a lot of poorly written books out there.
