Slightly fixed, but this x1000. Looks like this, Another (will watch the first episode tomorrow) and maybe Kill Me Baby if it somehow manages to avoid becoming repetitive (and it almost crossed that line on the first episode alone) will be my only picks of the season. Good thing too, since I still have lots of 2011 stuff to catch up with.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
by the way, what's another and daily life of high school boys about?
and do we have the complete list of the new anime this season?
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Well, Daily Lives of High School boys is exactly what it sounds like, a sketch based comedy with a male main cast. Another is a mystery horror, with the MC moving to a rural japanese town still haunted by a mysterious murder from 26 years ago.
As far as the shows airing this season:
Thats just about everything. As far as airing times and sub groups though, you should probably also consult this http://fansubdb.com/wiki/Winter_2011

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Can't wait for the Daily Lives of Highschool Boy's stuff at the next Comiket, some of my favorite circles are making stuff for it of both the H and Non-H type.
Been cracking out on Vinland Saga for a few days, SO GOOD! Friend who recommended it to also told me about Blade of the Immortal and Vagabond, starting those now.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I thought Vagabond was interesting until I got to a fight that lasted more than one volume and realised that it was just a seinen version of a shounen action series where I didn't like any of the characters.
Nice art though.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
To be honest, that was the fight to end all fights...
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
That;s exactly what a friend of mine thought about vagabond. For me, I mainly read it because I really like the original eiji yoshikawa's novel, that's vagabond is based on.
And a daily reminder for people to check Planetes, vinland saga's author's series about space garbageman. And as usual, I'll remind you that like Patlabor, the anime is better, for the same weird reason that filler makes those series better for some reason. Oh yeah, another reminder to check patlabor as well.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Patlabor is my ****, haven't gotten around to Planetes yet. Man I really wish Vagabond would get a OVA, especially if we got to the see the Inshun fight or the fight against the three Yagu Swordsman.

Thanks for the reminder! I've been meaning to check Planetes out for the longest time and always forgetting about it.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
So, Onani Master Kurosawa is one of the greatest case of "better than it sounds" ever.
I haven't finished it though. I was stuck at one chapter. And because of a very strange reason. For some reason, I really got into the manga so much, that I'm afraid to continue at this particular point, because of the chance that what's going to happen next is going to be really painful, that I have to give myself a break.
It's silly, but you never know what series would 'hit' you.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
So, I've been following Gamaran for a while, and this first two lessons from '100 lessons we learn from Gamaran' thread perfectly summarizes this manga well.
1. Glowing aura around you means you are strong
2. Strong doesn't mean you won't get defeated in one strike
And, woot, this is old news, but I'm a slowpoke. Mysterious Girlfriend X got animated? I absolutely love that manga.

WHOA! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I got this link from a forum.
Yeah, sajo no kanojo x is one of my favourite, and so does urabe herself :smalltongue:.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Well, apparently Gundam AGE needed a 25 year time skip- we'll see whether they do enough with it for it to be worth the skip (which is a rather large skip, and does break some of the immersion)...
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
You... didn't expect the time skip? The whole premise of Gundamage, and something we knew from the beginning, is that it will take place over three generations.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I didn't either for some time. And knowing doesn't really address it being a bit jarring.

I came to the series a little while in, and I don't generally spend time doing this sort of background reading ahead of a series (especially since I'm not really a person for spoilers in general). Also rather skeptical about time skips in general, so they're going to have to use them well if they want the series to have any real rewatch value for me...
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Still, complaining about timeskips in Gundam Age is a bit like complaining about magic mind-control in Code Geass. It's basically the whole premise.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I actually heard about Geass powers much, much later than about Code Geass per se. It kinda disappointed me, I thought Lelouch is just using magnificent bastardry and manipulation before that.
-
Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I'm still an episode behind but I als just learned about AGE's premise way into the show... we'll see how it turns out. But I was pretty shocked how close Yurin's story was to Lalah's... except actually better for some parts. Too bad there was no fencing on Ambra, though.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Show me a Gundam show that doesn't blatantly steal from the previous Gundams.

Unless there was another earlier source that had the confluence of laser swords, psychic powers, and masked villains surprisingly turning out to be related to...
...wait, that wasn't revealed (or even foreshadowed) in Star Wars until ESB in 1980, after Gundam was already made...

Lucas stole from Gundam!
I wasn't entirely complaining earlier... it was just... much more similar than anything else i can recall.

Gundam premiered two years after Star Wars was released in Japan so of course they saw it. And so help me they have stolen a certain sound effect for shall we say similar weapons. I can't recall if this was MSG or Zeta off the top of my head but I do remember it.
Not said Lucas didn't totally lift things from Japanese culture anyways. And lets face it there's really only like three ways to approach a certain object as a sci-fi weapon.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
Negima news: Wait, what?!
I mean, okay, considering these three chapters will come right after the end of volume 37 they're bound to be extra-long to fill volume 38, but still. So many plot points hanging, even after the events in ch.351.

Re: General Anime Discussion: Area 11
I felt the urge to watch Dragonball again recently.
Spoiler
Show
I can't help but observe that the announcer guy for the Tenkaichi tournament is
tremendously unprofessional. :smallconfused:
- Oftentimes he has to be prompted by the fighters themselves to start the countdown for a K.O.'ed opponent.
- When he doesn't, he takes so long to get started on the countdown that an actual ref would've done it three times by then.
- When said countdowns occur, he lets his countdowns get interrupted, or even just plain stops counting sometimes.
- Dude, if one of the fighters busts out a knife and starts trying to kill his opponent, don't just say he's disqualified; make some effort to stop the freakin' match.
- Likewise, if a person in the audience starts firing off a gun indiscriminately, try to have that person removed. Yes, even if she's a supporting character.
- If a person in the audience starts threatening to kill someone to deter one of the fighters, that is grounds to stop the fight.
- If a fighter is using the threat of murdering the entire audience as a tactic against the other fighter, then he should be disqualified. For that matter, murdering the audience should be against the rules; the lack of such seems to be an oversight.
- Y'know what? If it's against the rules for the fighters to kill each other, then you should probably disqualify the guys who openly talk about their intent on murdering the other person in the ring.
- Likewise, if leaving the arena disqualifies you, then you should probably disqualify the people who take flight; that sort of thing seems totally against the spirit of a martial arts tournament.
- If the fighters are literally moving so fast that they cannot be seen, then stopping the match is probably warranted; having the fighters then re-enact their bout in slow motion, however, is not.
I dunno; it seems like I've got a lot of gripes for something that's supposed to be a gag anime, but those tournaments are among the parts of the show where it actually makes a half-attempt at taking itself seriously.
Also, there's a point where the announcer states that Goku's average tournament fight time is a little over 30 seconds. I call shenanigans. :smalltongue:

Yeah I was kinda getting that feeling. Its been thematically going there for awhile, then there's the slowing pace of release. It wouldn't be Mahou Sensei Negima when all the girls graduate and Negi leaves to go build a space elevator afterall.
Maybe we'll get a sequel series or a new generation one.
