Lords of Waterdeep is my favourite worker placement game, simply because you _feel_ like you're doing something other than putting cubes on boxes. You can feel that you're a lord and pretend that the white cubes are clerics and the purple cubes are wizards, and the gameplay basically makes sense for that (you order your agents to go to tavern to spread juicy gossips, you order your agents to go to the temple to recruit clerics, etc).
Burgundy has a really neat gameplay and tight mechanic, where everything flows together like a well-grinded gear. But you don't feel like anything other than putting cubes on boxes to get circles there.
