I am absolutely blown away. Apparently despite resisting it so long, shipfics are the way to go.
I was going to wait for it to tick up to 200 (if it ever will, who knows), but I had to share my glee the only way I know how: Simpsons references.
Oh, my turn, my turn! For me, Out In The Cold recently rolled over 200 votes (currently at 205 votes and 176 comments), although it's lower than your average at 4.8.
But, here's the thing: Moonlight Over Midnight is currently at 153 votes, at 4.9. (64 Comments)
Out In The Cold took four parts and three months to get 205 votes.
Moonlight Over Midnight has taken a week and a half and one part to make it to three-quarters of the votes that Out In The Cold did.
Which says that, in my case, while shipping is the way to go, apparently the better way is to write about the offspring of that shipping!
(So, yes, like darthbobcat, this is also sort of a thank you to everyone who helped me too.)

His name shall be Skybuck von Richthofen. He was a sensitive, artistic type who nopony understands. His cutie mark is a bottle of cough syrup because at a young age he realized that art is for losers and entered a group whose main hit was about gettin' slizzered on sizurp.
His parents are ashamed of him. THEY ARE RIGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF HIM.

he be actin' like he's drunk.
I don't know how my brain came up with that.

See, I was going to come up with a serious idea for the long term results of Soarinjack... but I've never written or really read a lot of fanfics that take place in the future of a show/manga/anime/whatever. My imagination does not work that way.
Possibly because my obsessive need to be accurate (which has gotten in the way of a fantasy novel project I have on the back burner; I want it to reek of realism outside the fantasy elements, and I kept finding details I didn't know and didn't know where to find out) makes me not want to undertake the process of figuring out 20 years worth of change to a show, both in technology, culture, etc.
So it resorted to the Todd in the Shadows reference.
Though I'm keeping the name Skybuck. It seems appropriate for the child of Soarin and Applejack, doesn't it?

Psh. That's dumb. The people that come up with your stereotypes are dumb. You need a better stereotype.
I'd help, but all I know about missourri is that it's a state. I'm guessing I didn't even spell it right. I'll look into it though!

They call it death valley. And not for the heat.
Luckily, I had a knack for administration, so after I killed my first gian scorpion, they let me oversee the Games. Still, I occasionally wake up in a furor, draw a knife, and wait to see whether I'm fighting a gangster or a rattlesnake.

Ok, yeah, see that? I totally missed something that happened in this thread. And that saddens me. Because it sounds awesome.
elven deer came up once a LLOOONG time ago and were ignored. Someone brought it up again, and DBC caught on and liked the idea, and now it has traction. A lot of the individuality here is a blur, though. Hay, I'm sure there are ideas I HAVE come up with that I attribute to others.

I built a deck for a casual format known as EDH/Commander. (Stating this for anyone who does follow MTG) It is a multiplayer format. This deck has zero win conditions. It is literally incapable of winning unless you do something really stupid or I get ridiculously lucky. In every game I play I am the first to die. That's right, instead of dealing with the players who have threats on the field they kill the deck that cannot win.
The goal of this deck is to get the players in the game to declare the following of their own free will without any prompts: "This is not Magic anymore". I have currently gotten 6 people to say that. None of them had heard that phrase relative to my deck before. I call this my Troll Deck. There are no trolls in this deck.

I actually used to have a white deck centered around CoPs that worked like this. I would always be the second-to-last to die as everyone recognized that I had no hope of actually winning, and I played it for the sheer joy of watching the annoyed expressions of my opponents when they tried attacking me.
Combining topics now, if the mane six played MtG, what sort of decks do you think they'd use?

@Amish: So here are some thoughts on The New Moon Wanes
Spoiler
Show
In regard to your question, I think that the explanation in the third chapter works fine for establishing the tea-time a bit better. Since you made sure to include it earlier on, the idea is already out there and there's nothing wrong with going back to revisit ideas later on.
A couple of unrelated things that struck me:
Luna's dialogue is inconsistent with the use of contractions. In the first two installments, she doesn't really use them, but in the third, both Princesses use them most of the time. I don't know if this was an intended progression for Luna's speech, but the lack of contractions sounds jarring to my ear in the beginning, and I'd suggest putting them back in, if only for ease and naturalness of language.
At the end of the third part, after Luna raises the sun and Celestia is praising her, the line about her "Not really being sure if she (Luna) could do it" comes off as a bit of a backhanded compliment to me. I don't know if this was intended, but it seems a little out of place when so many other ponies seem to be applauding her efforts.
Otherwise, there we only a few places with some syntax issues/missed words and a few slightly rough transitions, but I'm sure all that will get picked over in the really final edit.
That's all I've got. Good story, and I look forward to seeing it up on EqD, DeviantArt, etc.
And now for some airship battling:

The droid continued to assist his captain in retrieving the wayward rigger, but as he looked up, he saw a cupcake round pass close by one of the vortices. In a flash of nightmare energy, the cupcake was transformed into a massive pteranodon, which slowly winged its way around to face the ship.
"Cap'n, looks like we've got company!"

Re: My Little Pony XIV: Boots on Hooves / Bikinis on Top
Ahh, Magic: The Gathering. I literally haven't played that since the late 90s. (I think the last expansion I bought from was Weatherlight? I think?)
Never professionally, only with a couple of friends, one of whom made it his life's goal to beat me. I think my record against him by the end there was something like 132 wins to 4 losses.
We were terrible players, but I was just that much less terrible than him.
Our favorite thing to do was take all of our cards we owned, and make them into one huge deck each, thus pitting our entire collections against each other!

Note: you may need to know a bit about MS Paint Adventures to get some of this.
Note dos: This was hastily put together in an hour, and it will change over time. Criticism is welcome!
Note tres: Yes, this is my first try.
Equestria has it's secrets unknown to most of it's populace. But Celestia knows. Equestria was supposed to be a session to continue the cycle of the universes, and is fact was the universe that John and his friends would make, but the overwhelming friendship of the world stopped them from creating the game. They had no use for any violent game and so the continuity of SBURB stopped. On that fateful night that she banished Nightmare Moon into the moon she accidentally attracted the attention of the Derse of their universe. In the confusion of the planet I seized my chance and killed the black queen. I gained the prototypings of the kid's universe from her ring in the process as well. The kids had come to observe their universe in secret and taking their sprites with them, thus giving him their powers. (although what they had created was much more different then they could have imagined). I proceeded to take over both the light and dark worlds and headed to Equestria to finalize my conquest. Celestia saw me first due to being in space at the time and weakly confronted the new threat. She was in chaos already at having to banish her sister and I noticed tyrant. She somberly stared at the moon even as I was about to finish her and the planet in a Green Miles fireball. Seeing her in such disarray did something to me that I can't explain and I lowered my hoof. It might have been that the world itself was hardwired to be pure, but I couldn't do it. I comforted her and asked what was wrong. After hearing the whole story I vowed to help her with the moon in her absence. In order to not frighten everypony in Equestria we devised a plan. I would guard the moon and move it and Celestia would take the credit. In exchange, when she would be released eventually be the elements of harmony, I would be given a hidden plot of land deep in the Everfree forest in which to colonize and begin anew the Prospit planet I had destroyed in power hungry madness. Eventually we will reveal ourselves to the rest of the world, but for now we are happy living here. My powers have been weakened due to most of the kids returning to their universe, but I still have Bec.
My name is Jack Neighr. Hi.

Been there, done that, my friend. That's just the nature of the pony thread. There's been times when I've gone to bed and woke up the next morning with 5+ pages to push through, or had to go do something and come back with a huge amount to go through.
It's just...one of those things you have to deal with about this. You just have to go with the flow and dive in where you can.

Aye, that's part of the fun. Gilda is a good character, because she is totally realistic. She's a raging jerk, but everyone has redeeming features (even the commodore is civil, despite all the genocide and beig an abomination of the natural order).
Gilda deserves no sympathy for what she did. She does deserve sympathy for what happened to her, though; even the parts she inflicted on herself. Gilda is. Direct relationship analogue, and most of us folks can understand her position, even though she obviously went about things the wrong way.
Ponies are just. That. Awesome.
Also, sorry about the post rate. I was going to slow down to let our little thread ship war game thing catch up to itself; you folks jut happen to have engaging conversations all the darn time.
Truth be told, I'd rather be drawing, but work is busy. I can't sit, but I can type in between "why is my credit card giving me the credit card price? I demand a refund, even though I noticed the difference BEFORE getting $60 in petrol" type issues.

Um... Hi again! Thread and posters.
Could I trouble you all for some general thoughts about running a game which is centered around ponies? My Little Pony style ponies, but not the actual characters, is more what I'm looking for. Any thoughts about cute, nice, happy, and sweet things ( romance not accepted (!) ) that could be put in a play-by-post game related to Ponytars and the Epic Power of Cute?
And, yes, I've been watching the thread. It does speed by sometimes.
