Which is a good thing, because "Month or two" is soon, rather than S.O.O.N.

I've been deliberately trying to avoid news because it sometimes makes me ambivalent, sometimes excited, and the closer we get the further it seems to stretch out. This next month or two will age me decades! Though maybe I'll be able to get an extra dot of essence that much sooner as a result?

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
Yeah more vague progress.
Maybe if we're lucky will see it sometime in 2015.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
You do realize what's left to do is kinda easy to predict, right? The book is already written.

It's also roughly formatted. It just needs edits done to the master copy and for the finishing touches to be done with formatting once the art is done.
I'd give it till March at the latest, baring some kind of horrible accident or emergency delaying things.

After the whole Mummy thing, I'm never backing an Onyx Path kickstarter again.

...I fail to see how that has anything to do with what was in my post.

I think he was saying that they've shown they don't need much to cause huge delays.
-
Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
Well, there's not much now that could cause any delay, beyond the owners deciding to screw around on them and revoke the license or all of the bqack up copies of the master file being destroyed.
Besides, taking time means it'll be better. Would you rather have a finger painting on time, or a Da Vinci a year late?

Trick question, Leonard was notorious for never finishing and running off for different projects. (After having been paid)

1) If I commissioned a finger painting in the first place then it's likely I needed it for a specific function that is now a year late, meaning I'm out of a job. In addition, I would have no idea when the Da Vinci would arrive at my door.
2) That metaphor would work great for, say, Dragon Age Inquisition, but it doesn't apply as well to a roleplaying game, since the corebook/ruleset is closer to the paints than the painting.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
I'd rather talk about magma kraken.
-
Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
I dunno. Some part of this lengthy process led to Getimians, so there is absolute proof that more time does not always lead to better.
Is Magma Kraken Style going to be in the core-book?

You don't like Getimians? (I have no opinion so it would be interesting to know yours)
I believe it was a reference to a tweet by holden that there is a full color illustration of Magma Kraken.

I don't know. I haven't seen this Da Vinci yet, and until I see it I'm not going to decide I love it because of the name signed on the bottom.
I haven't made up my mind about 3rd edition yet. I do know that I've been on edge waiting for it for years.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
What the hell is wrong with the Getimani?
Also, their book is a ways off.
-
Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
Everything. (Actually not quite) everything. They are a cancer on the setting to rival RotSE.
My hate for Getimians could dissolve all of Malfeas. :furious:
I may not be the best person to gather opinions from and don't want to say that you can't have fun with getimians in your game. Their dualistic mote pool management is a very neat idea although I expect there will be many cases of it being overspecified and not living up to its potential.
I just....
I just hate them.
So much.
The Magma Kraken illustration I'm less sure about. On average, Exalted art sucks. It's just really, difficult to describe levels of bad. So I'm preparing myself to be disappointed.
On the other hand, the 3E character art and comics were quite good. So I am cautiously hopeful.

You see, this is why I complained about the pessimism. Getimians exist only in name. How can you not like them at this point, and in a manner where you feel your judgement is justified and solid instead of whimsical? How can you call them an absolute proof of bad quality when there's nothing to evaluate?
Hells, people react to that for everything, it's getting on my nerves!
New edition! "I bet they'll screw it up."
DBs come first! "Boo, what of lunars."
Evocations! "Solars are overpowered."
Liminals! "wtf I want my abyssals."
Exigents! "Why would I ever play any other exalt?"
New Abyssal charms! "I thought non-loyalist, non-doomed abyssals were supposed to happen? These are just psycopaths."
Lunars are pissed! "Even the useless Silver Pact lunars were better than going back to 1e rapist lunars."
Chill, my not-friend-just-acquaintance friend. There's no need to allow the unreasonable gut-response part of your brain to ride your higher self and through it your attempts at communication.
It's a new book. It's full of promises. See that they are kept, rather than imagining they're already broken.
And magma kraken is not a style, it's a spell. It'll be depicted in the corebook, and probably written as well.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
I second the question.
Literally all we know about them, beyond the Yin-Yang mote pool, is "Sid who is justifiably pissed at Heaven found them." "Sid is using them for his War against Heaven" "They're each a living Loom of Fate" and "They can Self Teach Sid Martial Arts".
If you hate it just from that, then you're going to hate the Liminals, New Infernals, and Mysterious Unnamed spalt as well, becuase they're all suposed to compliment a classic spalt the same way Getimani are supposed to Compliment Sids

I didn't even know about the Mote pool. Basically all I know about them is 'they used to be kinda-sorta-dead.'

I think you're mixing them up with Liminals.

You're mistaken. That's a Liminal. Liminal Exalts are what happens when you try to resurrect someone; You get someone entirely new wearing their body.
Which really empathizes the point, come to think of it.
I third the "hatred of Gentimians...why?" line of discussion. All we know now is the fact they have differently themed mote pools that influence their personality, the spider-spine, and the fact that the person they work for is supposed to come off as kind of a selfish arse to underscore a theme of "puppet gaining autonomy" (from Rakan Thulio). So, I don't see why they're "a cancer" because they're a new type of Exalt...along with Exigents, Liminals, Alchemicals when and if they breach the Seal, any you make yourself...
EDIT: Damn Sidererals.

Re: General Exalted Discussion XVI: Chej Kejak, Pokegod Trainer!
You have a point. I am not happy about Liminals. I understand that they want to mirror WoD with a Promethean equivalent. I speculate this is because they hate originality, but that's just joking around.
I don't feel that I have enough information to judge new Infernals. I think they will be less interesting but more balanced and playable than old Infernals, based on what I've heard about the fluff and Ability-based mechanics.
Exigents are cool and not particularly disruptive to the setting.
Liminals and Getimians are new types added for no clear narrative or stylistic benefit.
A whole group of Exalted working for Rakan Thulio, even if they're supposed to be breaking away, why? It's lame, it's boring, it's unexalted. Thulio might be a good story. He is from the little clip we read a Hero. But a whole type of exalted tied to that story and vision, either by embracing or rejecting it? Pathetic.
Being a loom of fate and learning Sidereal martial arts sounds like it could be neat, but it makes Sidereals look kind of dumb, doesn't it?
Their name doesn't end in 'al' or 'ar'. This may seem petty, but it is deserving of limitless scorn. If you are going to break naming conventions like that, you had better have a world-shakingly good reason. Yes I know Exigents don't either but they're not the same.
Alchemicals are neatly set away in their own world, causing no problems unless you care to introduce them. These are not like that.
I know Magma Kraken is a spell. But have you heard of the martial art? :smalltongue: Apparently not, so sad.

Okay, okay, here's the pro-Gentimian side of the argument.

This is the thing I have the most issue with. Liminals are in there to show there is more to the Underworld than the Abyssals and the Deathlords, and to show exactly what happens when someone attempts a truly impossible feat, and comes so close to succeeding. Gentimians are there both to fill a recently vacated space (that of a slave learning they are a slave and how to be free) and to bring the theme of the corrupt gods to the fore by having an Exalt type made in opposition to Heaven.

This I understand. Thing is, Thulio isn't a Hero, not even in the classical Greek sense of a great person with great personal faults (unless you count Eurystheus and Paris as heroes-I don't). He's a petty, petty man with a lot of jealousy and selfishness, and a lot of power to back that up. I was initially skeptical myself, but then the writers explained that (A) he's not supposed to be the anti-Heaven Chejop Kejack, and (B) personal motives sparking epic quests isn't exactly out of character for anyone. Me, I think the reason they've focused on Thulio and not Gentimians is that he's simply not the splat being released a few years from now. And because he's a Sidereal and not a Gentimian, he can be played completely divorced from Gentimians, given how it's been implied they don't actually like him.
Being a loom of fate and learning Sidereal martial arts sounds like it could be neat, but it makes Sidereals look kind of dumb, doesn't it?
Maybe. Not in my opinion; there's room for two splats capable of the Wu Xia Bull Sidereals are capable of. Hell, I wonder why Sidereals are the only ones "meant" to have that. I don't think Gentimians can use Fate-weaving, either, except for personal physical law revisions-no Loom-for-literally-everything-except-them access.

This doesn't bug me, but I can understand why it irks people.
Alchemicals are neatly set away in their own world, causing no problems unless you care to introduce them. These are not like that.
Okay, I get that. I do, however, wish to note that Creation has had its sized increased by about a factor of three, and most stories are only going to affect certain sections of the map independent from the rest to avoid the Thousand Dooms problem. So you could just say "There are no Gentimians or Thulio in the area we're focusing on", done.

That would be it. It doesn't even have to be much of anything, someone doing art layout could call in sick for a day and it'll be delayed another six months.
