Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
Like to request an avatar based off of my death knight cleric, Armanatr the Soulless. Here's the description from his character sheet:
Skeletal in form, Armanatar instantly distinguishes himself from the hordes of mindless undead by his bold demeanor and unmistakable aura of command. His armor is silvery black, and has the mailed fist of Hextor emblazoned on the front in midnight black. A furious orange fire burns in his eyes, and his brutal gauntlets drip blood. In his right hand he clutches a vicious flail.
Key parts are the black fullplate, the gauntlets of the blood lord (picture in Complete Divine, if you want it), and the flail. Otherwise, feel free to change minor details as your muse demands, though I'd prefer it to not have a background, just the figure himself. If, for whatever obscure reason, you want more information, his sheet is in my sig, feel free to check it out.

1. Look through the Adoption thread in Arts & Crafts and look at people's Photobucket/gallery whatever if they've got one linked. If you like one, DO NOT POST IN THAT THREAD, but PM the creator.
2. (optional, you may go directly to 3. if you wish) Post a request in the Request an Avatar thread in Arts & Crafts (oots is stickied, but there's an Erfworld one too). If, after posting your request thrice (with 48 hours between each repost) you still have no response, proceed to step 3.
3. PM the avatarist of your choice with your request. I believe there's a list on the first page of the Request thread, or you could pick someone whose work you like from the Adoption thread. Alternatively, keep an eye out for who's done what avatar that's been used, and if there's someone whose name you've seen attached to a few that you've liked, try PMing them. Some avatarists have a note in their signature saying whether they're taking requests. Others (myself included) don't.
Note: It's best to give as much detail as you can when writing a request. It generally makes it much easier to make them, and is more likely to be eye-catching and/or generate inspiration.
4. So You've Got Your Avatar. Copy the URL of your avi (Right-click -> Properties) in the Custom Avatar address bar (User CP -> Edit Options -> down the bottom). Don't forget to tick the "Custom Avatar" box, and don't forget to put in the dimensions (also to be found in Properties). You may like to host your avatar yourself, say in Photobucket, in case your avatarist decides to do a bit of housekeeping. I believe some avatarists require this.
5. The most important step of all: Click "Save Changes".

Whoops. I forgot that bit. Oh well it might teach people not to blindly follow instructions :smallwink:

That's weird, why isn't it transparent? Bugger, it must've been the same thing that caused that grid thing to come up... Curse my misplaced fingers! Anyone who knows Adobe Illustrator know how to get rid of the grid?

Attempt one finished. I'm not too happy with the hair, and couldn't get the gloves/socks to look right, so left them out. If their are any changed you want done, or if I should just start over, then just say.

Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
If anyone has the time BTW, would they mind making me an avatar? I can make my own (as you can see on the left) but I just feel like I should have one made by someone else if that makes sense.
Anyway, the specs.;
- Male human or elf
- Class: Wizard or rogue (I'd prefer the later)
- Hair: Short (ear length) and brown.
- Clothes: worn Blue jacket, jeans (or just blue trousers , and/or a cloak or robe.
- Weapon: Crossbow or duel wielded daggers
- Pose: Attacking (weapon in hand, with a spell beign cast) or surprise attacked (shocked expression, hurridly reaching for weapon) or sitting as a desk (looking tired but determined).
- Everything else is up to the artist.

I'll give it a shot, no ideas how long it'll take though.. shouldn't be too long.

Actually it isn't transparant because Watchdog turned it into a JPEG. The GIF you posted originally was working all right.
To Watchdog and all the other requesters: please take care when rehosting avatars and putting them up in your profile. As an avatar maker, it's annoying when you tried your best to make someone a high-quality avatar, and then they spoil it by making it pixelated, untransparant or applying any other form of degradation.
If there's something not to your liking about it (for example, if you run an old version of Internet Explorer that doesn't support PNG transparancy), it's better to just ask the artist to fix it. They have the original vector file and all the proper art programs, so it's usually a 5-minute-job for them. Don't be shy to ask.

Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
Well, it's been a long time since I've been here, and my character has changed a TON since then!
Mine's a little unorthodox, and it's going to be in signature style. I have a typed desc for the character.
Spoiler
Show
A distinctive, haughty pride is palpable about this young elf as he
stands here, his pale features almost describable as beautiful, as much so
as a male can be- inherent of his clearly elvish lineage. This stark white
is unkempt, hanging to his shoulders in messy locks, the stray strands
falling into his limited field of vision. His right eye is obscured by a
black cloth tied about his head, tied in a tight knot behind his skull.
Most of his form is covered by his clothing, the dark ensemble draped over
his entire body to the wrists and ankles. The lean stance he assumes while
idle suggests a wiry frame, and while in action he moves gracefully, with
the occasional misstep due to his missing eye. The remaining steel-grey orb
observes the world with a calculating manner. The final thing about his
body that warrants notice is the alarming contrast between the midnight
clothing on his body and the startling pale hue of his skin, as though the
sun itself has refused to touch his skin.
His clothing is well-tailored, the cloth seeming soft to the touch, though
his eye dares most to touch him. His torso is wrapped in a fine shirt, the
shoulders reinforced with thick cloth pads. Stitched on the collar and the
shoulder pieces are silver designs, minor runes of protection and, more
prominently, symbols of Drakkara. The design is continued on his leggings,
the kneecaps similarly reinforced as the shoulders. Holding the ensemble
together is a worn leather belt, a short sword and a dagger slung across the
left side, away from his blinded right side. His hands are covered in
thick, yet soft gloves, the fingers removed from the fabric to allow greater
dexterity in spell casting. Encasing his feet are thick boots, the
toughened material perfect for wading through just about any environment.
From time to time his hands glow softly, almost bleeding off excess power
from this elf. When this occurs, a few pale outlines of scars can be
detected on his skin, hinting at times of harsh treatment or combat.
He is usually standing beside a white dragon, wyrm age, both probably looking a bit on edge.
If anyone feels brave enough to try this, by all means do so and PM me, if you would. I sometimes forget I do these things.
Gracias!

Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
I dunno how to, but I'd like to add myself to the avatar artists list. Only done one so far, mine, but I'd love to do more for people so long as they:
-give me a little wiggle room. Artistic license is nice.
-choose humanoids, preferably humans. I'll do the occasional dragon if I feel really awesome.
-ask me by PM.
-are at least dwarves. My avatars are insanely detailed, something in the excess of two hundred objects in Inkscape, twelve layers. I'd like to see my work in the hands of a frequent poster.

Inkscape rules. By the way, I like your one avatar.
What's the progression of levels? (ie, what is "at least dwarf"?)

Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
The title beneath your username, you're a dwarf.

Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
Disdain, you'd be better off putting a minimum post count, as has been done in the first post. There is no list of the order of titles.
-
Re: Request an OotS Style Avatar XV
Oho? I was under the impression it went pixie, dwarf, orc.... ogre? Whatever, my point should have been clear.

This to me sounds a little conceited, while your avatar is good, there is no reason why they should only be available to people who meet your standards.

If nobody else has taken your request, (I might have missed something), I would like to take a shot. In my signature there's the link for the OOTS style stuff I already made, take a look if you want. Also, is your character skeletal? Like Xykon-skeletal? Would is body template be good for you? Just to be sure, I will start to draw the armor and weapons meanwhile.

Yes, Xykon skeletal is about right. Send me a PM when you've got it done. Thanks in advance.

It was a common method way back when that helped ensure you weren't putting a ton of time into making an avatar for someone who would post three times and then leave the forum, so it isn't like there's no precedent.

:smallamused: So why are you using one as your only a pixie?
 nah I'm just kidding, but your right it is very detailed.
but (no offence) don't you think that only making for dwarves is a little bit cruel, I mean you don't have to accept from Pixies... but to refuse them the right to one of your avatars altogether...
