I figured you were talking about that one from the description. I've watched it.
IF you are watching dub versions, be warned. The voice actor for Issei changes between Season 2 and 3 due to some unpleasant real life events. The change can be a little distracting.

well trained enough to make her pupils disappear? That seems more like conditioned reflex than training to me.

"Yay or neigh" is a nice touch.

Indeed. I think we can safely say that AI in this universe are hard coded with certain preferences. The officer is certainly far more emotionally expressive than Bubbles. Bubbles is mostly dry sarcastic wit on the surface. Hopefully, Roko will stick around. She's is a nice contrast to Bubbles and Momo without going all out to May levels.

There's a fine line between training and conditioning, and it's balanced on the learner's ability to consent to the learning process, and on how conscious/subconscious the learned behavior is. Either way, definitely something weird going on.

Yes that's the part that I meant when I said "unsettling and scary". I dunno if it's intentional though, it almost seems like the eyes are unfinished and Jeph just somehow forgot them.
In the last strip where she adopts that look, her eyes are fine.

I disagree. I suspect they are not coded at all, and that personalities & preferences are an emerging trait.

It's extremely common in manga and anime, so I assume that's where Jeph got inspiration for that look from.

As for her reaction, remember Hanners still got terribly social issues. She trained herself to be functioning in CoD's environment with customers, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's sort of a routine she goes through. Not as in "playing down a script", but she's been in the situation before and can handle it. Now she's confronted with something new, and doesn't want to talk about it. Other people might be a bit nicer about it, but for her maybe just "shutting down" is the only way she can do this. Alternative is freaking out.
So her going from chipper to this mode isn't actually that out of character for her.
-
Re: Questionable Content 10: La Li Lu Le Lo
Or, perhaps, she switches to a "blank" aspect of her persona deliberately in such situations, in order to give her the greatest amount of control over the situation and minimize the risk of accidentally causing an issue. It isn't that much different from "The documents you have requested are in the glovebox of this vehicle. I am reaching into it with my right hand to retrieve them." in principle.

"...the "Empty Eyes" trope, a condition denoting that the character is dying, dead, distracted, shocked, traumatized, mind-controlled, in a state of Tranquil Fury, completely insane, or some combination of the above."
Not seeing any statement about conditioning being a prerequisite for empty eyes.

Hey, that might be cereal in his bowl!

Re: Questionable Content 10: La Li Lu Le Lo
Always good to see that the weirdness of QCverse extends far beyond our main cast and their AI-driven issues.
Anyone else want to see characters visit Vladof's Beverage Emporium, where you might get a coffee and might get PUNCH IN FACE?

Is it just me, or has Steve bulked up a little bit?

Realism. A few years, a few pounds. Tortura looks a little more thick too.

DxD has lots of plot... Also, in its defense, issei being powered by plot kind of makes sense.. in both regards.

Nah, we will know when tvtropes gains sentience because its first action will be to destroy this forum in fear it might do the same and start the great trope war.
Steve lives and... How are there robo sharks? Are they like, proper AIs like Gordon or just mindless shark bots? Why not have just sharks? Animal rights? Do they have a large enough pool? But most of all, which super villain still has a shark pit?

Tsk, don't use your inferior bioengineering capabilities as an excuse to take jobs from proper living beings and give them to machines, you robophile.
(No, good point, actually. But why lasers? ... Okay, got it.)
-
Re: Questionable Content 10: La Li Lu Le Lo
Why lasers? YOu have to ask that?

Because we want frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their frickin' heads. :smalltongue:
We wanted live ones, but the PETA lobby cut that one off. Apparently it's not "humane".

Considering how much damage and repair has been done to Pintsize's face over the comic's lifetime, I am pretty sure Hanners can punch Pintsize's face off.

Always make sure you know what you're giving or throwing away before you go through with it. On the plus side, Brun will give the clock a good home, away from mice and spiders.

Wondering if Hannelore actually found it there, or purchased it online and used "I found it" as a diversion.

At $3000? and then covered it in dust and grime? I suspect not.

Given Hannalore's family's money, and Hannalore's shared interest in clocks, I could certainly believe that she might buy one, or even have already had one. Honestly, the "covered it in dust and grime" part is the less believable part of this idea.
