He knows that Saves is apparently able to snap dies out of it when sonny boy takes over. Its best to stay away and let duv kill the bitch, then mop up afterwards. Dunno who he would be more likely to kill if he interferes with grems fight though. His motivations, aside from killing anyone that threatens father, are still pretty unknown.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Hmm, that seventh panel might make a neat avatar once the coloured version is up and I rework the colours a bit (to match the character I'm playing). I need something to do in GIMP to start tackling the interface.

Judging from the linked comic, I would probably kill both of 'em.
The fact is: if I remember that Saves is able to "awake" Dies' personality, I could consider to kill her first, and then Duv.

You're playing a non-yellowishgray giant orc with transparent lips and hair?

If OOTS is anything to go by, Orcs are usually somewhat green. And he can color the hair and mouth so that they aren't transparent.

Green orcs are a Warcraft invention as far as I know; D&D explicitly lists them as being gray-skinned, and I don't know of any references to the contrary in any of the published books. The Giant probably made his orcs green due to the popularity of WOW or just because he thought it looked better (it might also have been for technical reasons, similar to the Hulk in Marvel Comics having been gray for two issues and then turning green because the gray wasn't printing right).

The only thing Warcraft invented was a successful way of blatantly stealing Games Workshop's designs and marketing them for millions without getting sued.
That is to say, green orcs come from Warhammer, and have done so since 1983; eleven years before Blizzard Entertainment appeared.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
For that matter, the original Warcraft was supposed to be a Warhammer game until Blizzard lost/failed to get (I've heard it both ways) to get the liscense. So what do you do in that scenario? File off the serial numbers, slap on a quick coat of paint, and call it something different.
It's not just limited to fantasy either. Compare.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
It's no mystery that Blizz took Games Workshop property, though the how when and why are unknown to me. What matters though is that right now both companies are very successful, and any attempt to rectify what happened by either party would only end in or near bankruptcy for both companies. Assuming GW found a way to sue Bliz for stealing their property, Blizz would be unable to continue the war and starcraft series and loose their primary cash cow of world of warcraft. Meanwhile, because their favourite games have suddenly ceased to be, loyal Blizzard fans would be in an outrage, boycotting GW, picketing their stores maybe, and eventually running GW out of business as well.
If the reverse happens then it's the same result, both companies either going bankrupt or loosing a whole lot of business.
So really the whole argument of who did what is moot as neither company nor fanbase will want to try and fix the issue, it just won't end well for anybody.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Oh, if GW wanted to take any legal action, the time for that is far past. The two are sufficiently distinct now. Divergent evolution of each game and all that. The fact remains however that Warcraft and Starcraft started as shameless copies of Warhammer and Warhammer 40K.
GW wouldn't have much ground to stand on trying a lawsuit based on what the two have become. And if they did and by some crazy chance it worked and Blizzard went under... Well, I really doubt GW would care about a bunch of pissed off Warcraft fans. GW has a large and loyal fanbase and a stranglehold on the mini-wargaming market. Some Warcraft fans refuse to buy GW products? Were they even buying them to begin with? GW isn't losing anything from them if they weren't and if they were, they likely already got a few hundred dollars out of them. WoW itself is a good example of people not wanting to give up on something that they've already sunk a bunch of time and cash into.
-
Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Any likelihood of GW going after Blizzard for copyright issues was long dead by the time Warcraft III came out, and Blizzard knew it - one of the humor quotes for the Alliance Gryphon Riders is 'This warhammer cost me 40K'.

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
Regardless i'm pretty sure we're offtopic by just a bit.
I wonder what Kills Horribly thinks about Klik. Dies is "Father", does that make Klik "Mother"?:smalltongue:

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
I always assumed klik was father...

I've always seen D&D orcs described as having grayish-green skin.

I'm vaguely familiar with 40K stuff...who's the Protoss analogue? They don't look like the Eldar I've seen; are they Tau?

Based on the weapons, the claw, and the guy teleporting on the right, I'm guessing that's supposed to be an Eldar Warp Spider.

Warp Spiders, one of the more exotic varieties of Aspect Warriors. Not sure if that's the particular Eldar unit I would have used as a Protoss analogue, but the whole 'intensely psychic dying race that uses the souls/minds/lifeforce of their dead as warriors' thing is there.

Yep, on of the more frequent comparison in Vs threads, is that SC is the scaled down version of 40k. Luckily for us, i'ts a very cool version.

It's a possibility. But Saves was holding klik (quartestaff version), and klik generated Dies' arm, so it's possible that Klik is "father".

Why is that so lame? Grem surely ran in the direction of the finger so Biscuit would step on it. It's not just, like 'random bad luck'. Grem led him into it.
Just looked at the previous page with its new shading. Wow. The fight between Saves and Duv is beautiful. That fourth panel...

True. Maybe they're both father.

But I WILL be very disappointed if Biscuit dies because he stepped on Mr. Finger's severed finger...
Biscuit has been in close contact with demons for 600 years. Maybe he has immunities? Starts to bubble over, then gets better? He certainly DESERVES better!

Re: Goblins IX: For that, you shall DIE!
So, double red herring there. On it's own, stepping on the thing shouldn't be fatal, but if it gives Grem an opening...
Also, Thunt is getting much better about giving his Colorist the background they need to work with. Previous page is fantastic. Still something... ever so slightly off, to me, but that might be just getting used to the style, and Thunt and his colorist learning each other's styles still.
