Larissa pauses as Jorad responds.
"We've got the healing device that was being used on the petal. I'm fairly sure I can get it to work, so if you would like me to attempt to heal you..."
Her voice trails off, hoping that he would agree.

Jorad smiles at Larissa, which turns into a grimace as he sits down on the stage. "Sure wouldn't hurt. Go ahead if'n you want."
Larissa nods, and heads over, pulling out the strange healing device as she does.
"Ok. If this hurts, please, tell me, and also tell me when it stops hurting. I just hope I can get these to work."
She seems to focus on the device, and she tries to activate it, repeatedly, until he says he's fine.

Bella watches the fight with the others. After it concludes and all the skeletons die off she finally approaches the stage and starts investigating. The others are already attending to Jorad so she climbs down and starts poking through the room. She starts with the music room and moves from there. As others join her down here she fills them in on what she's found.

SpoilerEdit: Oops! For some reason, I thought this was the OOC thread, so I wrote an OOC post.
Try finding it, myself, before we all Take 20, as we know it should be around here, somewhere:Perception [roll0].
EDIT: Now, that's just sad.
"Oh, look: mirrors!"
Jorad winces a little less each time the device passes over his wound, knitting the skin back together far more rapidly than nature would normally allow. After about a half a minute he tells Larissa to stop.
"It hurts less now. I'll let it heal the rest of the way on its own. Thank you."
He puts his armor back on, slings his shield back over his shoulder, and hefts his axe.
"Ready to go," he says, and begins trying to help locate the secret passage.
[roll0] perception
Larissa smiles, and nods, before she puts the strange device away.
"Of course. It only has so much power, and preserving it for an emergency is a good thing."
She too, returns to the search(Taking 20, for a 20)
Zara starts searching below the stage too and, after a while, you hear him lauging: "Ha! Guys, guys, I found the secret door behind this mirror! Come look, come look!"
Larissa heads over there, her wings occasionally brushing the edges of the doors as she goes through, leaving behind a small amount of colorful dust.
"A secret door? Hopefully, the way to his private chambers, but it'll need to be powered, I think, before we can use it."
She tries experimentally touching the rune.
Larissa touches the rune, and disappears.
"Guys? Larissa just touched this rune thing and disappeared.."
Spoiler: LarissaYou're find yourself in a completely dark room that smells of figs. The floor feels soft. Like you're standing on a carpet. Because you're standing on a carpet.
You hear what sounds like it could be a fountain, muffled though a door, a a good distance away.
Spoiler: OOCI'll tell you more about the room when I get to an actual PC, which probably won't be for a while.
"So much for needing power," Bella says as Larissa disappears. "I hope this isn't a repeat of the garbage chute incident. But I think all of us piling through is the best bet don't you?" If the others agree Bella touches the rune next, following Larissa.
On arriving, Trent looks around.
"Nice place, this."
After Jorad is healed, Trent takes a small gel bead from another tube, and presses it to Jorad's skin. It spreads and is absorbed almost immediately, and a tingle covers him for a moment after.
"That should do it... Hm. Ice, I think, to not burn the room down. Over here, so we don't get anyone else."
After positioning himself and Jorad near a wall, Trent pulls out another green bottle. The cone covers Jorad, as well as a good bit of wall, floor, and ceiling - but Jorad remains unfrozen. "Suc-"
Then Larissa is gone, cutting the triumph short.
"Again?! Well, let's get after her." He rushes in.
Etienne
:smalleek: as he notices Larissa has disappeared.
"I should think so!" as Etienne quickly moves to touch the rune, alarmed at the thought that Larissa may be in a strange place, alone, and in possible danger.Quote:

Of course, when I say "completely dark", what I mean is completely dark to those of you without darkvision. Which means that all of you can see 30 to 60 feet, except for Jorad, who is effectively blind.
You find yourself on this level (map).
You're standing on very soft fluffy white carpet, in the middle of the room is a huge chessboard, complete with huge pieces, and along the outer walls are 12 doors, all of them locked, but easily unlocked by Zara, or kicked down by any of you with some effort.
After a bit of searching, you are, quite evidently, in the private quarters of lord Abraxis.
Spoiler: Opening locks
Zara is the only one with ranks, and it's a trained only check. He has +7, and the DC is 20, so let's say every lock takes him about 20 seconds to speed things up. Alternatively, the break DC of the doors is 18.
Spoiler: OOC
I won't be able to post as much as I'd like over the coming weekend, so I've put a brief description of all the rooms on the map. You'll get more detail as you explore, but that should tell you what you find behind the doors.
A bit surprised by the abrupt transportation, but having had some experience with such teleportations, she remains calm, and lets her eyes adjust to the lack of light, and her eyes widen as she spots the huge chess set.
However, before she can really do anything, everyone else starts appearing.
"I see we found the teleporter."
At Jorad's comment, she smiles at him, but shakes her head.
"But how are we to learn, if we don't experiment? Why don't we see if we can have a look in these doors, find the portal out? This chess set... that seems... odd. It is rather... too large, I think."
She heads over to it, and tries, experimentally, pushing on one of the white pawns, seeking to move it to AQ46
"What chess set? I can't see nothin'. Zara, you still hangin' on to that glowvine?
Jorad tries to let his eyes adjust to the light as well, but he quickly finds that there is no light at all to which his eyes can adjust. He puts his hands out in front of him and starts to walk forward slowly, then stops and asks, "Um, can someone point me toward the wall? I'm havin' some trouble navigatin'"
When Larissa pushes the white pawn, it levitates up a bit, and starts moving, almost as if on its own. When she tries to push any other pieces after that, they seem to be solidly stuck to the floor.
After about six seconds, one of the darker pawns (from AQ 34) floats towards the middle of the board (AQ 40).
Zara hands Jorad the glowvine, muttering about getting glowy stuff all over his fingers and not being able to hide like this.
"Interesting. It seems that there's some sort of intelligence, guiding the other side."
She tries moving her bishop to AK43
The white bishop floats, similarly to how the pawn did. A few seconds later, a second black pawn (AN 34) starts moving forward (AN 40),
"Thank you, Zara," Jorad says cheerfully as he snaps the glowvine stick.
As the vine brightens, he is a little confused to find that, although he can see the wall, and a door now, he can only barely see onto the chess board, and cannot even see Larissa trying to move the pieces.
"Wow," he says matter-of-factly. "Big room.
Hey Larissa, I can't see you, but it sounds like yer startin' to play a game of chess. It might be a good idea to put that on hold for a mite while we try to find the portal."
He walks over to the door (10) and tries the handle. "Locked," he says, and starts moving along the wall toward the next door (11). If no one stops him, he goes all the way around the room, trying each door.
Larissa smiles at him.
"I don't think I can open the doors, and I'm hoping that the set might do something once the game is over."
She pushes the bishop one more tile up, to AH40, wondering how the game would respond to the check.
The bishop's line to the king is blocked almost immediately by a black pawn that moves one tile up. (AN 37 to AN 40)
Zara offers to help Jorad open the door using his dagger, and about 10 seconds later door number 10 creaks open.
Sighing, she moves her bishop back, to AN46
After Jorad gets a light, Trent moves over to him - "Better to save what vine we've got - no need to use two."
---
Overhearing the creak, Trent asks "Oh, have you got one open?" and walks over.
Jorad looks back at the creak of the door.
"Oh. You got it open. That's pretty impressive. Where'd you learn to do that?" he asks Zara as he enters the room, greeted by the sound of the rushing waterfall.
Zara opens the door, and recoils a bit as a stream of light floods into the room.
Behind door number 10, you find Abraxis' private bathroom. There's a heated pool in the middle of it, continuously filled by a waterfall that comes from the ceiling. In the back of the room is a rather large window that looks out over the world. If you had to guess, you're about 2 miles from the ground.
As expected, it's still night outside. You've all been awake for almost 20 hours at this point.
There is a bathsalt dispenser with various scents in the side of the pool.
Spoiler: If pushed
You hear something tiny walking inside, and then a zapping sound. Shortly after, salt comes out. The contraption does have a maintenance hatch.
The chesspieces prove a tough match for Larissa. From early on in the game, she is forced into a defensive position. Just when it looks like she is about to lose, the black king topples, and a deep voice echoes through the room.
"Abraxis, you are a smart and wonderful being. Clearly, you would only lose at chess if you so desired it."
Larissa considers her defeat for a few moments, and nods, clearly thinking about it.
I see. I thought so, but best to be sure. Self absorbed, not confident of victory... how did he achieve all that he did? We're missing something, some key, how he took himself from what he was when he met the petals, to what he was when he made this place.
"That was... informative."
She heads over to the door, and looks inside.
"A bathing pool. And a window. The window... seems valuable. Can we break it?"
Etienne
Etienne frowns at the chess game, but whatever his thoughts, he keeps them to himself. "Let's find the portals. As I understand it, from their, we may go anywhere, including out of this world. I think we should find if one links to the entrance of the tower, so we can alert the people and they can start coming. Then at least a couple of us should return to the lab to power the Gate. That's when the real fun will begin."
