Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Praetorians still got to attack the Keeper, but it has dodges to roll:
[roll0] - fail
[roll1] - pass.
It gets two of them, so one per attack. Result is it dodges O'Connor's shot, but takes the full burst from Barak. 24 wounds dealt
It uses Telekinetic Crush on Barak. This is an opposed WP test, its WP vs his Toughness.
[roll2]
Barak: [roll3] - it very much does win this.
If it wins, he takes [roll4] and is grappled. This attack does not have warp weapon, so his armour applies. He takes 5 wounds.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Oh, I'm dumb, and forgot to roll the opposed WS for the Wraithguard. They're still trying to force Macharius off the bridge.
Them: [roll0]
The Captain: [roll1]
So that's still stalemated. But Ahriman's circle is finished, and the daemon is contained. Ish. Its daemonic presence no longer applies, it cannot leave the circle, and it's taking steady damage. Ahriman's tied up with his chanting, he won't be able to do more directly, but with the circle closed, Echo is once again free to act. Barak's still grappled, though.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Did Barak happen to drop his holy bolter when he got crushed? I get the feeling Hannabel's carbine isn't going to do much vs a greater daemon...
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Not by default, and he's only allowed to take the Grapple action now, so I don't think he can even drop it by choice. Which seems a little weird, but there you go.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Is there any way for him to free himself/for anyone else to free him?
Also, if anyone wants to use O'Connor's meltagun or Macharius' plasma pistol, they're currently available
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
He can use the Grapple action to attempt to break free. He's got a strength boost from the power armour, so it's not impossible. Opposed test vs the Daemon's WP. If he succeeds, he'd still have a half action available once he was out. Another character can attempt to assist him as usual.

How does this work, again? Because I swear I've looked through the rules before trying to find a kind of "help action" option in 40k, and I couldn't find anything like that. Kennoch's Hellpistol is useless here, so he'll jump in and try to save Barak. Just point me toward the rules on how that works, if somebody can.

I vote that we give our best Blessed gun to Hannabel. And make a point to find her some new specialized guns when we get back to port. If this chapter has taught me anything, it's that we're not yet as over-equipped as I thought we were.

You just give them +10 to the test. I forget what page it's on in the book.
Anyways, fair warning to you guys. I have tonight free to do updates, and then whatever I can manage to fit in around work next week. Combat updates tend to take much longer, so they're harder to fit in. After that, I'm off to Italy for two weeks, and will be away from my books, PC, and general ability to post here. We'll resume when I return.
As usual, standard offer applies for when I'm away: If you write a short piece about something in your character's history, there's some bonus XP in it for you.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
No updates from me tonight, I'm afraid. Having a rough week but hopefully things will improve over tomorrow, because...TGIF!:smallbiggrin:

Dropping a weapon is a free action and free actions are described on p. 236 as being able to be performed in addition to any other actions on the character's turn. I think that should allow Barak to drop his gun if he wants to.
Since the Praetorians are almost as good at shooting as Hannabel, I don't want to have her try and talk O'Connor into giving her his gun. He'll be more useful plugging away at the daemon.
So, Hannabel will fire a burst, shout at Barak to drop his gun, and then move next to him to try and pick it up next round.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Bugger. Forgot to roll damage so that we could tell if one or both dice rolled a 10. Have to remember that next time.

I think it's editing weirdness. Under grappling, it says that grappling characters may only use the grapple action.
...which also means they can't talk. Because you know, being grabbed eliminates your ability to speak. The fact that this psychic power allows grappling also makes the ability of the winner to take control of the grapple very strange. It's... not a super well-developed system. In any case, I agree that him dropping his gun if he wants to is pretty reasonable.

Well, you got less than 22, which means either one of them was, or none of them. A or B, but not both, is 18 per cent. So, 18 or under: [roll0] - nope.
I think you autoconfirm but I forget if 100 always fails: [roll1]
and on the off chance: [roll2][roll3] - garbage damage roll anyways.
Anyways, Hannabel goes before all non-daemon combatants, so it's only fair I tell you that she did 11 wounds to it. It's not allowed to take reactions while it's focusing on squishing Barak. It's also taking more damage than it otherwise would because Ahriman's circle has turned off the bonus toughness from Daemonic.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Going to post because I don't think it'll make a ton of difference even if Anika's bottom of the Initiative order.
I can give Hannabel Anika's pistol but maybe we need as many guns as possible here.

True, but I don't read that as overriding the ability to take free actions. I think the intent is to make it clear that someone grappling or being grappled isn't going to be doing anything else like firing a gun or using a psychic technique. It could certainly have been clearer though.

Nice! And hurray for the anti-daemon circle!

Looks like she may be getting her mitts on the blessed bolter after all. Also, since the daemon's bonus toughness isn't working, I think any gun with a decent damage roll will be valuable.

They could have just said 'May only take the grapple action and/or free actions' but then I guess you could reload while being grappled under the right circumstances. Oh well. FFG editing is notorious for a reason.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
I'm back! After Destro leaves, of course haha. I'll make some rolls here, since what exactly Barak does other than drop the gun depends on those rolls and Destro's opposed rolls. He is going to take a half action to try to escape, aided by Echo and Macharius' Inspiring Leader. If that fails, he tries again; if it succeeds, he pulls out the melta.
Attempt 1: [roll0] vs 100, with an extra DoS if successful
Attempt 2: [roll1]- I don't think Inspiring Leader applies, but help may or may not?
EDIT: Well hot damn, used up my luck for a while. That's 10 DoS on the first attempt.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Ok well, you rolled a 1 so I don't think this matters, but: [roll0]
It could have if you'd rolled less well. But that's only 5 degrees of success, so Barak escapes.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
The Emperor protecting Barak specifically.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Hey, O'Connor also landed the max number of hits for not far off from max damage, so Macharius is definitely chalking this whole thing up to divine intervention. Although maybe that's his answer to anything remotely good happening.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
If we're getting divine intervention anywhere it's here.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Ok, this is it. Last update from me until I get back from vacation.
I'll roll a shot for Ravia just so she actually gets an action in this round: [roll0] - actually hits, given how huge this is
[roll1]or[roll2]
bonus: [roll3][roll4]
4 wounds total. Now, let's see. Hannabel did 11 wounds to it, and Anika gets 13... I did forget to roll dodges for it, though. See below.
Macharius' wraith: [roll5]
vs Macharius: [roll6] - one degree of success each. Macharius escapes getting pitched off the bridge by dint of having a higher base WS.
this is also only a half action, it should be getting attacks as well. Oops. [roll7]
Parry: [roll8] re-roll? [roll9]
damage: [roll10]
Rosarius: [roll11] - missed
Then we wrap back around to the daemon.
It does a WP test: [roll12]
opposed by Ahriman: [roll13] - Normally, it would win this handily. But Echo's improved circle gives Ahriman higher bonuses. It takes 10 wounds from him banishing it.
And it manifests Storm of Force: [roll14]
its Psy Rating is currently being inhibited by the Circle, but it still gets to pick four targets for this.
Ahriman: [roll15][roll16]
Dodge: [roll17] - it settles for blasting your Space Marine friend instead. This doesn't have any AP, but it's a lot of damage. Ahriman eats 6 wounds.
Barak: [roll18][roll19]
Dodge: [roll20] - miss
O'Connor: [roll21][roll22]
Dodge: [roll23] - saved by the dodge
Hannabel: [roll24][roll25]
Dodge: [roll26] - miss
So between you and Ahriman, you've put another 25 wounds into the daemon, but it's still going strong. It's taken 49 so far.
Barak has taken 5
O'Connor took 4 from the earlier fight, just for book-keeping I'm reminding myself here.
Ahriman has taken 12.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Forgot the daemon's dodges. It gets them back once Barak is free.
These are vs Anika's shot: [roll0] - pass
and O'Connor's burst: [roll1] - pass, 4 degrees. Enough to negate the burst entirely.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Alright, might as well test out my new power. I think that I can use Foreshadowing and still attack; the rules say that unless otherwise noted--which I don't think it is--a Navigator Power is a "standard action." Which I don't think is a thing. I assume it means a half-action. So, Kennoch will use Foreshadowing, then Aim, then fire as a Free Action thanks to his MIU Weapon Interface. If Foreshadowing is actually a full-round action, then I won't Aim, but I might actually need Aim to offset the penalties if I roll poorly for the power. Gonna go for all three possible secrets in one round, because why not.
Foreshadowing (54): [roll0]
Secret 2: [roll1]
Secret 3: [roll2]
To Hit (BS45, +30 Massive, +10 MIU, +10 Red-Dot Laser Sight [keep forgetting I have this], +10 Aim [if I can aim], +/- whatever from Foreshadowing): [roll3]
Damage (7 Pen): [roll4]

And this will be in the IC post. I was going to do this one at the end of the chapter, when Kennoch's new mutation sets in and he thinks about his aunt, but this is a good time too.
Blaaaah. Failed my first Foreshadowing check. Especially infuriating since I could've gotten the full +30 bonus. But apparently I'll hit anyway, so, whatever. :smallyuk:

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Forgot about the backstory prompt. I'll try to get one up this weekend. They're a fun way to think about the character more and flesh him out a bit.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Ugh, I'm under the weather (again), so I'm not sure I can find the energy for creative writing.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
If Destro left on the 1st and is gone for two weeks, then you've still got some time. I do like these glimpses of everyone's past; it's fun seeing how we got here.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
I'm back at home, your friendly GM survived Italy and planes and all manner of things. I have been awake for a very long time and will not be updating tonight, so last call for backstory things if you want bonus XP. Updates to resume shortly.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
Ended up being super busy this week with work and dogsitting some elderly pups, so it's not much. Figured I'd give Macharius a more cheerful flashback this time, since he tends more towards the holy fire and righteous indignation nowadays and I don't want him to be too one-note.
-
Re: Sea of Stars - OOC III
I've got some family flying in tomorrow to visit for the next week, so I'll probably be scarce. In the next round, Kennoch will prioritize Warp stuff (if necessary), or giving one of the better characters a +10 assist bonus (if anybody wants it), or just shoot again if there's nothing else to do.
