On the other hand, I suspect that Anthony would be more likely to listen to one of the Donlans. And Antimony doesn't usually welcome Eglamore's attempts to be protective; I'm not sure he'll be able to intervene effectively... Still hoping Kat talks to her parents (or her parents notice by themselves).

The question is, would she, could she, do anything in Annie's case? By forcing her to resign as Forest Medium, Tony is endangering the peace between the Woods and the Court. Jones might act against that.
All this assumes Kat and Annie don't settle this, first. And that this isn't a covert set up by the Court, which is why no adults have intervened yet; they don't know it's happening.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Wait, she'll have a room "near" the dorms? Her dad's not even allowing her to be part of the house and have a roommate?
What about an ankle monitor? Does she get one of those? Or are we just going with bars on the windows?

Spoiler
Show
And with four little words, a moment of silence, and a smile, we see Annie's spirit is not yet entirely broken.
There may yet be hope in this chapter.

School has started, so the dorms are already full. I believe he actually mentioned that.

Right from the cast-page:
* Mr. Eglamore - games teacher (sports)
* Mrs. Donlan - Science teacher
* Mr. Donlan - also science
Also: Anja, Donald, James as kids.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Yes, Kat, you need to save Annie once she stops being a doormat, but right now YOU NEED TO GET REY AWAY FROM HER!
(On the flip side, depending on exactly what terms and with what qualifiers in place that Annie passes Rey over to Tony, this might work. If Rey is able to spy on Tony and see what he's up to... and pass that information on to Kat (and maybe Annie)...)

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I'm thinking Kat is gonna steal Renard while helping Annie move. Or she might grt Robot to do it more covertly.

I'm hoping that's what Kat is planning by sending robots to get the rest of Annie's stuff.

Wouldn't work; you can see Renard in the box Annie is carrying.

You're right. I read back. It didn't register at the time with everything else landing on Annie.
I don't buy it. They always have even numbers of kids in a grade? Weird as the Court is, they never had a kid transfer in partway through before? Dorm assignments are sacred, unalterable, and they can't have three kids together? This is just another effort to isolate Annie.

You might have a point there; Annie herself was a transfer partway into Year 7, after all - which is why she had to have the very top bunk in a 30-level bunk bed arrangement.

Maybe they knew that Surma would die before the end of the next school year, so they signed her up with special permission to bring her in part of the way through the year...?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I wonder if the next chapter will focus on other characters as has been suggested.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
(vague sounds of unhappiness)
I was afraid this would happen. That nothing would happen to save Annie and she'd fall into Tony's insidious plan. But maybe this will have the long term result of FINALLY BREAKING HER FREE FROM HIM!
Maybe not. :(
I like how all her friends are so unhappy about this... She should see this as a sign of support. Being Annie, she probably thinks they are being contemptuous of her for her cheating and this is further proof of her worthlessness.

Toooooooooooooooooooom
whyyyyy did you end the chapter now
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
It was never going to be quickly resolved. I do wonder if the narrative really will focus on other characters as Annie remains under her father's thumb for a while.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I really hope next chapter will start with Kat being shown with Rey's doll which she stole from Annie, and taking it to Jack and Jenny to figure out how to override Annie's last command to not speak.

Theoretically, the act of taking Rey could very well break the contract of ownership binding him to Annie.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Hettie's owner managed to transfer her ownership to her brother - we have no reason to believe Antimony cannot transfer her ownership of Renard to her father.

Without said brother even being aware of it. :smallconfused:
I think by dying (Hettie related?) and Hettie being among her possessions. I'm not sure that the same rules apply. It's sort of voluntary on Antimony's part, but sort of not.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
I can't find the exact link right this moment, but a day or two ago I remember reading through one of Tom's Q&As from a long time ago, and coming across a question along the lines of, "If Annie were to voluntarily hand over ownership of the doll to someone else, would Reynardine's ownership contract be transferred as well?", to which Tom's answer was, "Yes, it would".
Mainly I remember it because of how hard I punched the wall in frustration after reading that.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 5: Bismuth as Usual
Frankly, I don't see a problem with breaking Rey's ownership contract. It's the natural follow-up to the Hettie arc.
Anyway, I don't think Kat knows all the intricacies of Rey's condition, so that wouldn't factor into her decision-making. So she might take him and be surprised...but then I'm not sure what happens next, because with Reynardine and Anthony on opposite sides, things could get real explosive real quick.
