I'm not aware of any spells or enchantments that do it, but there's the Improved Buckler Defense feat in Complete Warrior.

Q 452
In the Animated Series Handbook, there is an item called the Thunder Club. As one of it's abilities, it says: "In addition, three times per day, Bobby can strike the ground as an attack and cause earth tremor in a 30-foot line."
Leaving aside the silliness that only someone called Bobby can activate it, I'm curious about the activation method. Could this activation be used as part of a full attack routine?

Can a Wizard with 11 Int cast a 1st level spell heightened to 2nd+ level?
-
Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5 #33: Doesn't everything popular die when 33?
A 454
No. Per the description of Heighten Spell in PHB, the spell is treated in all ways (and as difficult to cast) as a spell of it's new (heightened) level.

There's nothing preventing it. Fighting defensively is possible along any attack action. Strike martial maneuvers are attack actions. The to-hit penalty will apply normally to each attack.

Can a druid use the Awaken spell Empowered or Maximized with metamagic to increase the intelligence score result of an awakaned animal (or all three mental scores of a plant)?

Awaken, from SRD:
Quote:
You awaken a tree or animal to humanlike sentience. To succeed, you must make a Will save (DC 10 + the animal’s current HD, or the HD the tree will have once awakened).
The awakened animal or tree is friendly toward you. You have no special empathy or connection with a creature you awaken, although it serves you in specific tasks or endeavors if you communicate your desires to it.
An awakened tree has characteristics as if it were an animated object, except that it gains the plant type and its Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores are each 3d6. An awakened plant gains the ability to move its limbs, roots, vines, creepers, and so forth, and it has senses similar to a human’s.
An awakened animal gets 3d6 Intelligence, +1d3 Charisma, and +2 HD. Its type becomes magical beast (augmented animal). An awakened animal can’t serve as an animal companion, familiar, or special mount.
An awakened tree or animal can speak one language that you know, plus one additional language that you know per point of Intelligence bonus (if any).
XP Cost
250 XP.
Maximize Spell, also from SRD:
Quote:
Benefit
All variable, numeric effects of a spell modified by this feat are maximized. Saving throws and opposed rolls are not affected, nor are spells without random variables. A maximized spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell’s actual level.
An empowered, maximized spell gains the separate benefits of each feat: the maximum result plus one-half the normally rolled result.
So yes, an Awaken spell can be maximized (it does have variable numeric effects) and it can be empowered (though the +2 HD isnt multiplied by 1,5, since it isnt variable).

Q 457
In Serpent Kingdoms and again in Magic of Faerun there's a major artifact called a Naga Crown. Among other abilities, it says that "The wearer’s arcane spells per day are doubled for all spell levels. This power does not stack with a ring of wizardry or other effect that grants extra arcane spells."
Does the Crown double both the base spell slots gained from the class progression and the bonus spell slots gained from INT bonus (or other casting stat bonuses?). A ring of Wizardry doesn't, but this just says it doesn't stack, not that it uses the Ring of Wizardry's mechanics.

There is no order of operations for this sort of effect in the RAW, so it falls to DM discretion as to which would be applied first.

Q 459
Could mage use shapechange spell (9th level) to take form that has more HP then his hit dices as long is he boosted caster level high enough?
Specifically, could 18th level character with 24th caster level take form of 24 HD creature?
-
Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5 #33: Doesn't everything popular die when 33?
A 459
No, it inherits the HD requirement of polymorph but raises the HD cap to 25. No matter how high your CL is, shapechange doesn't allow you to take a form with more than 25 HD.

Q 460
A weaponlike spell can critically hit. If a Duskblade confirms a critical hit while Arcane Channeling a weaponlike spell, does the spell also deal critical damage?
Q 461
Is a character who is Holding the Charge of a touch spell considered armed? Please give a citation if possible.

Q 462
Does the feat "Throw Anything" allow you to qualify for and use the abilities of the Master Thrower prestige class if you have weapon focus in a melee weapon?
Q 463
If a character has Two Weapon Fighting, Rapid Reload, and uses a light or hand crossbow, could they use TWF to also throw a weapon from their other hand whilst firing the crossbow more than once (requiring a reload)?
Q 464
Is there any way to use Manyshot with a non-bow? (besides Soulbow, which I believe works)

A 461 Yes
The relevant text is under "Actions in Combat" which is why it can be hard to find.

Q 465
Dark Heart of Vollus:
Quote:
Originally created by Vollus, a grim psion obsessed with keeping his Psychometabolism powers as he embraced his death, the dark heart grants an undead creature a Constitution score of 18 for the purposes of manifesting powers and saving throws only. It does not grant bonus hit points.
A dark heart is a shiny black crystal about the size of a human heart weighing roughly 4 pounds. When inserted into the body cavity where the subject's heart used to be, it begins to pulse with an ominous red glow, and a faint sound similar to that of a heartbeat can be heard with each pulse. Over the course of a round, hundreds of shimmering black strands resembling a circulatory system stretch out from the heart, burrowing through skin and bone, and attaching themselves to all parts of the undead creature.
While the heart does not grant the undead a true metabolism, it does allow them to manifest any Psychometabolism powers that do not rely on the manifester having a metabolism. For example, an undead psion with this could manifest talons but could not manifest vigor. The heart also grants a +4 bonus on Fortitude saves. The heart functions only when placed in a corporeal psionic undead.
Question: since, by the glossary definition, being living in D&D is mean "to have Con score", does it mean Undead, when using the Dark Heart of Vollus, is... alive? :smallconfused:
If yes - then will it be vulnerable to things which are usually affecting "living creatures"?

No.
Straight from the text you quoted, "...for the purposes of manifesting powers and saving throws only..."

Please, excuse me, but it doesn't matter: being "living" is "to have Con score"; DHoV gives Con score (see the underlined part)
Not "virtual Constitution score", "apparent Constitution score", or any other synonym to "fake Constitution score" - just "Constitution score of 18"

I tecommend starting your own thread on the matter as the RAW Qs thread isn't the appropriate place to argue.

Q 466
From the Book of Vile Darkness, Warp Touch is sorted among the magical diseases, although it has some unique traits (like being immediate, and having no possible recovery), making it more akin to a curse or mutation. So, I'm wondering...
A: Can a character be contaminated by Warp Touch more than once? Or would the phrase "The malady gets neither better nor worse." prevents it?
B: It is specified that remove disease accomplishes nothing, but would a more powerful healing spell (like heal) remove the Warp Touch effects?
C: Does immunity to magical diseases (like granted by the Contemplative prestige class) protect from Warp Touch?
-
Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5 #33: Doesn't everything popular die when 33?
A 462
Throw Anything doesn't change the weapon to have the 'thrown' quality, so no.
A 463
Yes, as long as you can draw & throw as part of a single attack OR you throw the weapon in your hand before you do your second crossbow attack.
A 464
Manyshot is explicitly for fired arrows. You don't need to use a bow, but you have to fire arrows (not even bolts), so it might be hard to do so without magic (or psionic, see: soulbow)

Q 467
A. Can a character with Vow of Poverty use magic items that give a one-off benefit, such as the various ability increasing Tomes, or the Sparring Dummy of the Master?
B. Would it depend on on how long the character must use the item to get the benefit?
C. How about magical locations, like the Otyugh Hole?

The rules don't address this directly, so expect table variation. Here is a similar general rule (RC 132) that a DM might choose to extend to this situation:

A. Only if they do so before taking the feat.
B. No.
C. Those are fine, as they are not possessions.

Re: Simple RAW Thread for 3.5 #33: Doesn't everything popular die when 33?
Q 469
Are there any feats that can generally expand the list of creature types a special ability can affect?
Specifically I'm looking to expand the creature types a Guecubu demon (Fiendish Codex I) can use its possession ability on (normally limited to Humanoid and Animal). There aren't any feats for this purpose in the FCI, so I doubt there are any specifically addressing this, but I'm hoping there is some little-known feat that does this for a specific ability you choose when selecting the feat (much like the Ability Focus feat applies to whatever special ability you select it for).

Generally? No. You'll only find this sort of effect referencing specific abilities, such as bardic music.

Aspect of the wolf changes the type of the recipient to animal. Attune gem allows the spell to be activated by people who aren't personally casting the spell.
