there is a cloud of fire as an arrow with a bomb atop slams into the beast slamming it to ground in a gout of red fury. Even as the beast reels from the brutal explosion and flames that now run along its flanks Mylo and Teach flank the beast, halberd and colossal sword slamming into it and with one last brutal lash of its claws the beast rolls over and dies.... In a vast explosion of acid!

As the beast explodes in yet more acid Solomon looks at the rent in ins breastplate that almost slashed into his flesh and nods his thanks to the raven beside him. Aye.. I owe you some food now eh? I don't like these cavers. Dammned animal traders, gods know what other spawn of Rovagog now dwell in here."
Bartram will look around for any survivors and try and figure out what "turned" them.

Rascal caws happily at Solomon's talk of owing him food, sitting on his shoulder smiling at him. Ophelia mean while gives a good look over everyone after that vicious fight and given the chance to see how hurt everyone is now a dinosaur isnt trying to eat them all.
Spoiler
Heal check taking 10.
Seeing Mylo also holding a cure wand she nods, assuming he knows what he is doing rather than that he doesn't know how to heal. Knowing Dirk took more damage than she could combat heal she channels into him with her own wand.

She then looks at the others to see how they are doing, knowing that acid was not friendly for melee combat and the dinosaur was very feral and hungry
Well, that was ... bracing.
Teach rips a segment of the cloak from one of the corpses and mops some of the blood from himself before looking around at the cavern.
What happened here? I passed this way some years ago and the folk here were pleasant. They certainly didn't want to eat me.
As Ophelia is fixing Dirkwood, he walks over to take a look.
How are you doing mate? Still standing ok? And how about you Ophelia? Are you hurt?
Spoiler
It's fairly obvious, especially to the healer, that Teach has taken some nasty wounds.
Lost 31 of 36.
Teach, did your mother never tell you to keep yout internal organs on the inside.
Mylo gives him a few taps with the wand.

Let's start with three and see how we go. [roll0]
Hmm, this wand is not living up to expectations.
Mylo reaches over and puts his hands on Teach's shoulders.
I hope you've been a good boy, my god can tell. I don't think he cares in quite the same way as others, but he can tell.
Spoiler
Two fully caffinated CLW for Teach. [roll0]
Teach nods his thanks to Mylo as some of his wounds close.
Ophelia seeing James still a little hurt channels one of her pearls and re remembers her healing spell before channelling it into him

She grins at him as his wounds disappear with a cheeky smile, her hands remaining on his injuries long after they have vanished. She then takes the time to cast mending on his coat and shirt quickly repairing the damage sustained in the attack, though any damage to armour is beyond her ability to fix.
Cant have you looking too dishevelled can we?
She then uses her remaining 2 pearls to re-remember her healing spells for the day, the 3 pearls power now spent, but her one ready to use when needed again.
Searching around the room as Mylo and Ophelia tend to people Dirk and Sax find little of value. Broken crates of food stacked in one corner and bodies partially cooked and partially devoured.
Bart thinks of the sources of this magical change but nothing comes to mind, Solomon examining the dead dinosaur Strange this disease. Magical but with no clear source. At the very least Vanthus may have succumbed so we can put him out of his own feral misery.
Both small tunnels lead out to the same wider cave. Solomon summoning light on a stone and hurling it into the dark room. The light illumines a maze of silk walls drying and blood splattered. Dozens of bolts of silk obviously recently soaked hanging from ropes obscuring the room. A table on the far side appears laden with stuff and two exits lie to the north. The left hand one leading to Leemo's lab and the slave pens, the right hand path to where Kigante kept his menagerie or at least that's what Mylo can remember... He had had rum that day.
Dirkwood takes a huge gulp of his rum before moving forward 'stealthily'.

"Ophelia what can you make of this. I can not work out what did this."
Ophelia satisfied the party are healed enough should another ambush be sprung follows Bartram to the Lab and at the strange concoctions and equipment.
Im not this kind of witch you know, caldrens and poisoning apples and the like...
She says to him with a wry little smile, picking gently through the various things looking at colours and consistency
but ill see if i can make heads or tails of any of it
And she studies carefully the laboratory equipment, various fluids and material components after blessing herself to see if lucky inspiration might give her a nudge in the right direction

Pushing through the hanging silks Dirk discovers two bodies, neither showing signs of the corruption that has taken hold upon many here, but both bearing savage wounds and slashed from the dinosaur that you have felled. The silks covering many thing and the table loaded with books on a range of things including the savage beasts of Ameido and the lizard tribes.
Mylo points up the left hand fork at Bart's query of the lab of Yeemo and the witch and alchemist soon reach the cavern. Up ahead near where the slave pens lie the noise of screams and howls gets much louder...
In the lab a fairly even layer of sand covers the floor of this musty-smelling cavern. Large pottery urns line the walls of the cave, and within each grows a riot of strange mushrooms, fluted toadstools, phosphorescent molds,
greasy-looking fronds of pale lichens, and all matte r of strange fungi. Several large glass terrariums, their walls beaded with condensation, stand along the west wall. One of these is shattered, the loamy soil within spilling out onto the sandy floor near a long but low table heaped with flasks, jars, bottles, and tools. Protruding from under the table are a pair of small boots, perhaps those of a gnome. Further under the table the rest of gnome is apparent, a pair of strange fungi twitching and moving as they sprout and grow from within the now partially dissolved cavern of his devoured chest. Ignoring the violet funghi growing within the gnome you can see a strange beast pinned out for dissection on the table above. A strange creature that
resembles a two-foot-long tadpole with a mass of four facial tentacles and a
lamprey-like mouth is laid out on a wax dissection pad on the table. This hideous creature is a malformed and preserved larval mind flayer.
Bartram's interest is also piqued by the cluster of tubs and poisons...
Spoiler
2 vials of maylss root paste,
a vial of sassone leaf residue
a dose ofid moss
a striped toadstool

Ophelia looks rather uncomfortable as she and Bartram enter and examine the lab. As they look around she hugs herself a little; the experiments, creatures and fungi making her skin crawl.
Im REALLY not this sort of witch...
She says to Bartram in a hushed whisper as if nervous something might animate and try and touch her. She looks around very much keeping her hands to herself and minding where she steps, taking a horrified gulp at the mind flayer larvae really hoping that there aren't any adults being kept for harvesting.
She lets Bartram get all the potions, it being more his field and it requires less touching on her part having had nearly her fill of this vile room already.
While the others explore Teach stands guard at the tunnel to the slave pens, listening to the shouts and screams and trying to work out if they are getting closer.
Spoiler
Ready for another attack.
Dirkwood will search the bodies and have a sniff around for anything of value as the alchemist and witch explore the lab, keeping an eye on teach.
"Not exactly what I expected. Does anyone have a good idea how to deal win these mutants?"
Solomon said it was a magical disease - so some kind of magic? Sax's magic missiles seemed effective.
I'm more worried about making sure we aren't infected. Any ideas?
Spoiler
I'm assuming I'm in earshot.
"This rapier is magic, could give that a go?"
Bartram take the potions he recognises.
"I am not happy about the mushroom. The spores could harm. I say we put the place to the flame after we leave, it will stop the spread of spores."
Mylo walks up next to Teach and looks down the darkenned corridor.
I'm concerned more about those sounds. If more people are being eaten by these monstrosities we need to help them right away.
SpoilerPerception [roll0] what do i think is making these sounds? I also cast light on my sword and hold it forward.
Even as Bart and Ophelia explore the lab Teach, Dirk, Mylo and then Solomon move past the entrance to the lab to the shadowed edges of the larger cavern beyond. The noise is awful and the metallic tang of blood strong in the air. Dozens of five-foot-wide iron cages are built into the walls of this large cavern. Some are empty, while others contain the partially eaten remains of dead men and women. Yet most horrible are those cages that contain thrashing, wailing figures. Each of these seems more deformed than the last, twisting legs, writhing arms, vestigial heads, and jaws agape with too many teeth are all on display as the mad prisoners howl and slobber and throw them selves against the walls of their cages in a cacophonous attempt to break free.
Solomon mutters a curse, "By the gods. What a horror, Golden Lady shield us from such horror." The slavers here have been brutal and the nature of it seems to make Solomon particularly angry about the Crimson Fleet. "One day Master Teach we shall settle this account with those pirates. Sharply and terminally. Do you wish to put these poor beasts out of their misery? I would hesitate about approaching too close."
On the far side of the cavern in the guttering light of 4 ensconced torches you can see a way through further into this horrific pirate cavern.
