Re: AA's Kingmaker Part I: The Stolen Lands
Ilya, high in the watchtower, steels himself and sends an arrow whistling into the sleeping giant's head. He dies unceremoniously, the arrow shattering through his skull.
Katerina whirls into battle, her Aldori steel clashing with the bandits own blades, sending sparks flying as the young woman's twirling attacks are deflected away.
Viktor follows Katerina in. He bashes aside one bandit's axe with his shield, then follows up with a sword slash that sends the man reeling backwards, bleeding heavily. The bandit's compatriot manages to halt Viktor's follow-through swing, ducking aside so that it clatters harmlessly against the wall beside him.
Tireas rushes down the flight of ragged stairs leading up to his tower, curved sword in hand as he reaches the ground level, coming up behind the pair of men engaging Katerina.
Zinovia and Grigori unleash a devastating wave of magic. Fire and light sweeps through Nugrah's guards. The old man is though enough that he survives the onslaught, but only just.
The old man glares at his assailants, planting a wizened hand on the wall of the fortress. With a smoky hiss, he evaporates into the stone.
The bandits surge forward, roaring angry battle cries, drawing a variety of axes, swords, and maces as they rush at Viktor and Katerina. Katerina's duelling skill allows her to deflect aside a rusty old sword that thrusts out at her, but she catches a blow to the arm from the other bandit.

Two more bandits appear on the walkway above the keep's entrance, bows in hand, rushing to identify the cause of the clamour. They take aim and fire down at Viktor and Katerina. Both arrows are lost in the wild melee.
Vasily grits his teeth and rushes up behind Viktor, stabbing his weathered blade at one of his former-fellows. With all the expertise of a veteran killer, he puts the blade right through the man's side before he can turn away from Katerina. Akiros yells a battle cry, his eyes flashing with rage as he charges into the other side of the mass of bandits. His angry blow comes down hard on the archer who recently fired at Zinovia, blood splattering from the man's shoulder. He's still alive, though.

Re: AA's Kingmaker Part I: The Stolen Lands
Tireas climbs through the rubble towards the bandit that Katerina is fighting. The thug does a half turn to guard against the new threat. He turns back to Kat as she lunges, drawing his sword down low before whirling it up to slice across his chest.
The pair of bandits blocking Viktor's way manage to hold off the paladin, jabbing at him with their weapons to disrupt his sword swings. Grigori's spell makes the bandits tremble in fear. Zinovia's lightning hits them from behind, though, and they fall, screaming in pain. The third bandit of that group manages to roll out of the way, but is cut down by Akiros' sword.
Up above, Ilya fires across to the other tower, but both of his arrows thunk harmlessly into the guardrail that runs around his foe's position. The bandit bowman in the opposite returns fire, as do the two on the walkway above the keep, but their arrows fare no better than the Prince's.
Just as the last of the bandits fall, the door of the cage crashes open. Old Nugrah stands behind the shattered wood bars, a triumphant look on his face as he plants a hand on his chest to heal some of his injuries. The reason why is apparent: in a flurry of mottled brown and black feathers and coarse fur, a massive creature comes charging from the pen. It is bipedal, its thickly muscled body that of a bear rearing up on its hind legs, while its head is a predatory owl, with ferocious golden eyes. It charges right for Zinovia, chomping at her with its beak.
Spoiler
Show
6 damage to Zinovia.
Somehow more threatening than even the monstrous owlbear, though, is the long shadow that is cast over the battle from the southern doorway. Everyone - even the beast - freezes for a moment. With long, slow, angry strides and heavy footfalls, a human figure enters the field. His leather armour creaks, ragged, dark with what looks to be dried blood. His torso is bare, snarled with scars and muscle. His head is concealed from all view by the threatening visage of a twisted stag's skull, the empty sockets glinting with the dangerous, wrathful light of the remorseless eyes beneath. He is flanked by a pair of bandits who, despite being themselves grizzled warriors, shy away from their overlord.
He surveys the battle, and lets out an animal noise, half bestial snort, half feral growl. "This is my domain," comes his voice, low and raspy but somehow also as loud as a shout, deep and full of barely-contained rage. "It is mine, and you will all die now."
There is a massive horn bow in his hand, nearly as tall as his entire seven foot height. "Traitors first," snarls the Stag Lord as he draws back his weapon, its length creaking audibly even over the din of combat.
With a sound like an Alkenstar pistol, the bow releases. The arrow flies right for Akiros, striking him squarely in his breastplate. It punches right through the dented armour sinking into him right to the fletching. The bandit lieutenant sinks to his knees, blood running from the wound, and from his mouth. He collapses.

Ilya does indeed get his bandit this time, though the man doesn't fall. He fires back: again, his shot is a near thing, but Ilya is able to move at the last second.
Down below, Tireas begins to close with the Stag Lord, keeping in a low, agile crouch, ready to dodge if the need arises. Katerina follows the tiefling in, the young Swordlord-protege keeping her Aldori blade poised to strike.
Viktor lays on the owlbear as soon as it emerges, hacking into its hide with his hand-and-a-half sword. Zinovia blasts its keeper with magical missiles, but Old Nugrah continues to stand. That is, until Vasily rushes the old man, closing with him swiftly, his worn longsword stabbing right through the bandit spellcaster.
Grigori may stand down the Stag Lord, but he does take a glancing blow from the owlbear as he moves to the fallen Akiros. The bandit lieutenant is on his feet again, though, if only barely, his sword joining Viktor's, cutting at the monstrous owlbear's flank.
The owlbear lunges at Viktor with claws and beak, but, this time, it proves no match for the paladin's armour and shield: all three attempts it makes are battered away, to the tune of enraged squawks from the creature.
The Stag Lord's two guards fire with their bows into the oncoming party. Tireas, leading the charge, takes both shots. He deftly ducks the first, but the second grazes his shoulder. The pair of bandits up above on the walkway fire down into the fighting below, to no avail.

Katerina dashes into the fray in support of the surrounded Tireas. She dashes past the ferocious owlbear as it engages Viktor and Akiros. She closes on one of the guards, a lightning fast cut and thrust drawing a crimson line across his throat.
Viktor's sword swings go wide against the owlbear, but Akiros and and Vasily's combined swordsmanship is able to finish the beast off: Akiros hacks at its feathered belly furiously, and Vasily drives his longsword deep into its back from behind. The monster sways, then topples with a loud thud.
Abadar's healing, channeled by Grigori, washes over the combatants, including, most critically, the fallen Zinovia.
The two bandits on the ledge above rain down more arrows, but their morale is quickly breaking. With only Grigori and the fallen Zinovia in their line of sight, they choose to aim for the one still standing. An arrow grazes Grigori, but the other shatters on the hard-packed earth.

The Stag Lord draws a pair of arrows from his leather quiver, nocking the first and firing, almost point blank, at Tireas. Somehow, the tiefling's reflexes shift him out of the way at the last moment, and the heavy shaft goes flying past him. He lines up a second shot, glaring at Grigori as he watches wounds knit together. "You won't do that again, priest," he snarls. This time his aim is true, uncannily so.
