Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
...harp sounds. Old Realm. Demonic essence.
Drake weighs his options. He did not want to reveal himself until the lunar showed he was safe and not looking for trouble, but this could be a valuable trail t find out just what is happening, who's summoning Demjen and leaving the crabs around, and how in blazes they're managing to keep them happy without going insane from the dryness. So the thought only takes a few seconds before he approaches the four, as soon as the kid is gone.
"<Onyx, Raz. I think that kid was one of those demjen we talked about a while ago. Any of you have any skill on tracking people?>" he shoots, point-blank, before turning at the newcomer. "<He's a Lunar too, right? Please mention to him I'm a friend. I don't want any trouble.>" Dammit, Nazri, if you're going to send help, you could try to make it someone I can actually understand myself with.

"Sure. Please do not mention the gender mistake. And this fine fellow is Drake, by the way." He guessed that bringing up the fact that Drake was a Sidereal was not a good idea.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
"Ask him what he wants in the city, then, but try to be somewhat welcoming."
Tapping Raziel on the shoulder, Wing continues in English.
"Oh, and tell him Drake's a friend."
Confident that Raz can handle matters, he turns to Drake.
"I might be able to track it. Can you two handle this?"

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
"All right, if you wouldn't mind, Wing would like to know what your business in Gem is. As for Drake, he's...a random bard that likes to follow us around, so I guess he's a friend."
Pranking your sifu for the sake of subtlety. Truly, a more worthwhile business was never found.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
"My business in Gem..." here Shadow Dancer pauses thoughtfully. "I guess you could say I'm here by accident. You see I'm from the Silent Crescent on the other side of the mountains, frequently I take excursions into the mountains from my side to hunt Raksha. This last excursion I decided to go further afield than my norm..." he seems almost embarrassed before he continues "and I kinda lost track of time. I hadn't realized just how far I'd gone till I saw I was on this side of the mountain range. After several weeks of constantly fighting Raksha I felt I should take a break and Gem was close by, so here I am. As to what I'm doing here beyond that, I noticed that there were several Raksha around this area and decided I would help get rid of them before I went back."

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
"<One sec. Honestly, I'm not sure how much use I'll be here, given I have no idea what this guy is saying, but...>"
As he speaks, he closes his eyes for a second to pour some of his recovered personal motes into Wise Choice. It's about the only cognition charm he has that actually works on out-of-Fate creatures, after all, even if it's usually ambiguous as ****. He waits for the rsult before actually finishing the sentence.
Options: Send Wing alone to track the creature.
Wing and me both track it instead.
Leave it alone for now and find another avenue of investigation.
-
Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
The Wisest Choice is to track it with Wing.
[North]
The caravan heads on through the desert southwards, containing among it Cathak Pyrus and two scales of 12th Legion troops who are variously regretting the various actions that got them assigned here and brimming with excitement to do something other than chase bandits away from the grain stores.
If the dangers of the desert didn't rate well against Pyrus, they certainly haven't run into anything yet that thinks to take fifty armed men; the first part of the journey to Gem, at least, goes uneventfully.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
He opens his eyes again. "<...aaaaaaand it seems we have a better chance if I go with you anyway>" He turns to Raz. "<Okay, please tell the new guy we really have to do some checking. We'll be back soon, I hope. In the meantime, try to get as much from him as you can, alright? You probably shouldn't mention the whole, y'know, where you come from thing, by the way, at least while we're not here as backup. No telling how people could react to your bosses. Mine neither, thinking on that. Most Lunars ain't exactly very keen on my colleagues>"
And he turns back to Onyx. "<Lead the way, then. I'll be right behind you>"

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Wing does a less than impressive job of tracking the child, but it appears to make no attempt at all to lose any pursuit or even to see whether it is followed.
It passes down the street, along an alley-tunnel, through a small marketplace, and finally to a ladder up to a nondescript house in a row of many such buildings. They're quick up a ladder and through a roof-door inside.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Upon his arrival, Pyrus marches his men right to the Despot's palace. "Wonderful news my friend, I have secured additional soldiers to defend your city! My family remembers who it's friends are, even here at the far ends of the world."
-
Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Wing
Deciding to take a more round-about approach, Wing climbs up the house next door. Once up on that roof, he checks for any window to listen in at. If he can't find one of those, he makes his way over to the roof door as quietly as he can to try and listen in there.

I'll say it wasn't, but that's an excellent response to the next topic of conversation anyway
"Tracking a demjen, I think. Or an angylyka. One of the two, and they don't need my help for that-those two species aren't exactly the most hostile and vicious of the Exiles."
In response to the second:
"...Eh...funny story....
Let's just say this 'street preacher' look I have? It's not a fashion statement. Mainly, I've been lodging of a Dragon-Blooded (don't worry, he has nothing to do with the Wyld Hunt) who was nice enough to understand unreasonable demands from your bosses."

"Ah..." Here Dancer pauses to consider, "and I take it he is also providing food for you as well. I don't suppose he would mind extending his patronage to me as well would he?" he asks a tad hopefully.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Seeing Onyx take to the roofs, Drake nods. "<I'll keep a watch on the ground exits, then, make sure nobody gets out>" he whispers, before finding a tattered cloth and a shadowy corner, sitting down hugging his knees in the shadows, and drapes himself in it, face down - basically looking like a forgotten beggar of the many that stalk the Gem streets as they try to fend off the sand and heat with rags, as he keeps watch on the building's main entrance.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
[House]
Wing makes it up unnoticed, and, finding no windows, shortly makes his way to the door. Within voices can be heard, speaking rapidly in old Realm. He makes out "Raziel" a few times, and then someone new breaks in in English, asking something about the chimera and Silk Mountain. A shout and angry Old Realm follows.
[Palace]
"As I can see. Wonderful news, Cathak Pyrus; I am honored to know that there are some among the Realm who still care for us at the periphery.
I hope they are not needed too soon." He's clearly a little bit uncomfortable about the soldiers coming right up to the palace with Pyrus, but that's a small concern compared to what help they can be.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Wing
Hearing English makes him freeze for a moment, before catching Drake's Eye and motioning for him to come up. He seems to be their linguistics expert: maybe he can understand this strange moonspeak.
-
Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Yeah, I mean, if Hunger Carried over, that would mean mass would likely carry over as well, and that bring up a whole host of problems. The simple answer(moon-magic) is the best one.

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
With an imperceptible nod, Drake loses himself in the nearby alley, rounding the building before climbing it on the other side. He does not climb as well as Onyx, must be said - Drake is not the most athletic of men, even with his increased Exalted ability. Thankfully, the rather wind-worn down houses of the lower districts of Gem give a lot of handholds. Still, he needs a couple seconds to calm his breathing back to normal so as to avoid noise. Then he silently approaches, raising an eyebrow in silent questioning at Onyx. What did he find?
-
Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Whispering, as quiet as he can, Wing answers.
"English inside."
-
Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
A nod, and then Drake closes his eyes and tries to listen to the inside of the building. Dammit, should have spent a while learning sense improvement... thankfully he has pretty sharp ears in general. Let's see what he can get from in there...

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
[Eavesdropping]
A high, timid voice answers in English, something more about the chimera, sounds like a protest. A pause, a loud interruption by a similar but distinct voice, "...Luna is exactly the point!", more silence, a question in Old Realm about the Lion. The second English voice, talking about Sentinel and the spell he was preparing. From the tilt of their voice and the pace of speech, it sounds like they're answering questions, but no other voice can be heard. Then a "Goodbye!" in both English and Realm and a creaking of chairs.

"Probably. Nice guy, Pyrus.
Before you freak out though, I also have a bound aalu, a type of demon. He's a nice guy, really, but he's a bit paranoid and flighty. He can't fight worth crap and his first instinct is to run away from danger, but please don't hurt him."

"Well as long as he doesn't try to take a bite out of me... I'm sure I can keep my claws to myself." At this, claws extend out of Dancer's hand and just as quickly as they appear, they vanish from sight. With a grin Dancer continues "Joking around aside, I won't harm him I swear."

Re: A Dream of Quiet (IC)
Drake simply gives Onyx a "what the **** are you doing?!" look of alarm before hiding within a dark alley and donning his "asleep disenfranchised beggar covering himself from flying sand" costume (ie: the tattered shawl) quickly. Heck, from a bit of a distance, you could really confuse him for a mound of junk.
He's all tensed up under his cover, though, ready to bounce, grab Onyx and Avoidance Kata out of this place the moment things go south.

There's an answer. http://i47.tinypic.com/3013llv.jpg
It sounds affirmative in tone, anyway. Then someone calls out "Sure, come on in!" in English and the door swings open.
Drake
Completely disappears into the Scenery.
