(OOC: I'm going to need a subterfuge roll here if you are going to lie to him)
“I know a few places he might be,” Jen replied, “but I’m not in the habit of leveraging my personal relationships to help out people I don’t know. Especially if they show up unannounced trying to hunt someone down.”

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
Keen scowls at the reply. His brow knits together, his eyes narrowing into pinpricks. He opens his mouth to speak, but then stifles and turns it into a long sigh. He turns his attention to Frank and asks, "You feel the same?"

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Not quite, but," Frank nods towards Jen, "I'm deferring to her on this one. I guess you could say I'm not in the habit of going against my friends when they want to protect someone."
"listen though, I already mentioned we were talking about what to do with Seth, maybe I said too much, but you just gave us a new option. If you have a message or something that might convince him to agree to go with you, leaving it with us may help."

“He’d have to give us contact information to pass a message,” Jen said, “we have no way of verifying he is who he says he is.”
She glanced at Keen.
“No offense,” she added, “you’re not exactly inspiring trust and confidence.”

Keen's lips tighten, as he fixes Frank, then Jen with a cold glare. "Very well," he says after a sigh. He listens to Frank a little further, none too pleased perhaps with Frank's admission that they did know where Seth was. To Frank's offer, he seems to mull it over for a few seconds. Then Keen replies, "How about you let him know I came by. You can even give him one of my cards. Tell him I'm looking for him, and want to take him home." Keen fishes out a second card to hand to Frank and Jen. For a second that mirthful grin creeps over Keen's lips, before quickly vanishing.
He ignores or at least pretends to ignore any discussion between the two, as well as Jen's remark about not inspiring trust. After another sigh, Keen will shrug and say, "Well, I guess that's it then," after another thought, "you let me know if Seth starts really concerning you. Nice to meet you both." He'll offer a hand to shake, and unless either have any more questions for him, will trot back to his car, an old and remarkably unremarkable looking Queen Victoria.

Jen watched out the window as he left and made sure to take down the license plate number of Keen’s car.
“I don’t like him,” Jen said, “how did he even find us?”

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Tough to say, but if they've got people following and watching Seth, they might have spotted him meeting with us, then lost him again when we took him out of town."
"Can't say I like him either, but from the sound of it he has a better idea of what's going on with Seth than we do, and he certainly seems to have resources at his disposal. Handing him over might be the better path. Its probably the safer one for the two of us at the least, it'll keep us out of the way of whatever weirdness is going on with him."
He sighs before continuing, "But I can't say I'm sure I could live with just turning him in either given we have little idea what they'll do with the man. I hate not knowing enough about a choice to make a proper decision."

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
Jen makes sure to take down the license plate. It's not hard to remember, "MRKEEN".
(OOC: Are the players waiting for me, or want to discuss anything further?)

“It sounds like he wants him pretty bad,” Jen said, “maybe we can get something out of it, like more information.”

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"I thought of that too. Wring some useful info out of him in exchange."
"But that could be a double edged sword. If this guy's group is attached to the church as they claim, they definitely know how to keep a secret. Right now I'm pretty sure this guy sees us as nobodies caught on the edge of something we don't understand and safe to ignore as soon as he gets what he wants. But if we get his attention as something more than that, maybe he'll be hunting us after he's done with Seth."
Frank gives a chuckle, "Or maybe I've been reading too many spy thrillers lately and need to stop overthinking things. Still, maybe we could try asking my new friend at the lodge if they have any advice on dealing with Mr Keen's ilk?"

“That’s a good idea,” Jen said, “damn, I should have thought of that… do you want to call him.”

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Guess we might as well give it a go."
Frank pulls his phone out and dials Mr Black.
-
Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
The phone rings and rings, and just when Frank thinks it will go to voicemail, the line picks up. Andrew Black's voice is a little more gruff then when Frank had last seen him. "Frank? Why are you calling me? Didn't we agree to meet again when I got back?" he asks with impatience.
-
Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"We did, and I do apologize for disturbing you, but something has come up that is somewhat time sensitive."
Frank considers for a moment before continuing, "Hypothetically speaking, if we have an Agent Smith wannabe sniffing around and claiming to be connected to the church, how concerned do we need to be?"
-
Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"I'm not sure I follow," Black says hastily, irritation painted across his voice, "Is there a reason you are calling me about this? What, are you being audited by the IRA or something?"
-
Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
Frank frowns, apparently he was burning goodwill by the second here, "I'm talking about a well funded and connected investigator poking into matters we don't want to be discussing over the phone sir. I was hoping you might have some idea of who he was with and how to deal with them. But if not, I apologize for taking up your time sir."
-
Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Sorry Frank," Andrew Black's voice comes back flat and without much sympathy, "I'm not sure I can help you. Not sure what you're talking about to be honest. If it's something I can help with though, let's talk about it when I get back, and just don't do anything to... bold till then." He pauses, and faintly you can hear another voice in the background. Then, when the voice is gone, Black sighs and says quickly, "Frank, I'm going to have to get off the line now. Sorry." Then as an afterthought he adds, "Just... check all your technology. The enemy has allies in the machines." And with that cryptic message, Black cuts the line.

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
Frank frowns as he stuffs the phone back in his pocket. "Well it seems the gambit didn't pay off, and I might've irritated him."
"That bit about the machines though? First Seth, now Mr Black. Think it might be tied to that internet cult thing we stumbled across before?"

“Uhh, internet cult thing?” Jen asked, with a somewhat oblivious look on her face.

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"That new age self help group on a private social media platform. Called themselves the Connection I think. Supposed to help people reinvent themselves, but there were reports that people who subscribed were all too often cutting themselves off from the world and acting strangely."
"If there's some sort of threat that worked via the internet and machines, it could be a recruitment tactic."

"So... what do you think, should we subscribe?" Jen asked.

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Under a fake profile and on someone else's computer maybe. If this thing really is a supernatural threat I don't think we want our devices anywhere near it." Frank glances down at the pocket with his phone,
"But as for Seth, what are we gonna do with him? If he's gone far enough that even the brotherhood is wigging out, are we even capable of handling the situation?"

“I dunno? You think we should hand him over to this church guy, commander keen or whatever his name is?” Jen asked.

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"If I knew we could trust the guy I'd say yeah with little hesitation. He seems to know what's going on with Seth, and likewise seems to have the resources to handle it."
"Its that trust bit that's the issue for both of us I think. Maybe its really the best for all involved, and maybe what he's not telling us would give us nightmares."
Frank raises his hands in a gesture of uncertainty, "It seems to me like its a gamble either way, and I have no idea which option has the better odds on things turning out well. Handing him over is probably safer for us though, just because we don't know what kind of threat Seth poses right now, AND we probably don't want Keen as an enemy."

“Hmm, yeah ok, but I don’t want to compromise the group,” Jen said, “not sure how we can do that without revealing them to Keen.”

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Maybe we could go pick Seth up and tell Keen ahead of time to rendezvous with us nearby. Brotherhood never gets involved if things go right, and if things get out of hand with Seth Keen will be nearby."

"Yeah okay, sounds like a plan," Jen said. She went to call the Brotherhood and tell them they were going to pick Seth up.

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
Jen gets Bill on the phone, calling him from their office phone and putting it on speaker. It takes a couple of rings before he picks up, and when he does, his voice is a little hushed, "Hey Jen. I'm at work, what's up?"

Re: (IC) HtV STL by Night
"Oh, how far away are you?" Bill whispers in reply, "I'll be off in another couple of hours." To Jen's question he replies, "He's alone to be honest. He's just stayed in his room, hasn't moved from his spot on the bed. As I said, he's uh, not normal."
