Anyway, I wouldn't say "immediately" since for the first month or so any 'surplus' income will be spent on 1001 bits'n'bobs that you no longer have now that you're in your new place, and need. When you can go for at least a week without shouting, "ARGH! I thought I HAD one of those!" and/or know your neighbors well enough to borrow a screwdriver size D in return for something you have and they don't, then think about accruing some extra expenses. I would even push it beyond the first bill cycle so you have an idea how much surplus income you have and can deal with mental health sticker shock.
