Not every metal band uses it actually.
Check out all the 70's 80's metal bands.
Also, if you want some modern bands, I reccomend
Nightwish http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6UztEfwHt14
Airbourne (if you like AC/DC) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uANVBPVaf-g
Hammerfall http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Fi66fs7xRoc (Rand, if you like Dragonforce, you'll like these guys too)
Skyclad (who were the original folk metal band) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nlo7F1Zd-x0
Iced Earth http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cr--nPBEEFI
And there's loads more. :smalltongue:
As Bruce Dickinson once said "Some people take comfort is fluffy bunnies and flowers... Some... Take comfort in drawing Swords and dead people all over their school books. And then a band comes along and sings about that, and you're like YEAH! That's how I feel... NOW!!!"
... Heh... Bunnies have fluffy tails... :smalltongue:

You mean the "I can't sing, but if I yell loud enough it won't matter" voice?
That bugs me too. Still, Geek Rock.
"Growling" As it's called is a style of singing, Most people who growl well, can also sing well.
But saying that, growling is style singing, much like opera is a style of singing.
And you assume that it's easy, but it's actually very difficult and takes a lot of practice.

At least there songs don't all sound the same.
-
Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIII, No Plot for YOU!
I find some distinct similarities between the three, but I love them nontheless.
I especially love the last 30 seconds to I want out.
And to all the people who think all DF songs are the same, if that were true, then this would be a remotely comprehensible song. :smalltongue:

But it sounds horrible. Why do they do it?!

I don't think it sounds horrible, and millions of other's don't think so either, as I said before, it's all about opinion.
I think you need to look at metal differently then with other types of music, especially with bands like Maiden, Lordi, Slipknot, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, KISS, and Death/Black metal bands.
When you go to most rock or pop concerts, you go and watch someone play music.
But when you go to a metal concert, They don't just play the music, they're putting on a play, all the fire, masks and consumes, it's a performance, a musical if you like, they're telling to a story. Bands that growl take it a step further and behave like the characters in their story.
When people look at these bands and aren't familiar with metal and see these people jumping on stage with strange consumes, they seem to think they're weird and that this is what they're like in real, but if they go to a play and they see similar things there, they admire it.
Really it's the same thing, it's just a show, made to entertain. But because Metal is a music genre, it gets treated differently, when really it's a musical.
One of the original idea's behind metal was to explore things that are weird and most people would be scared to express.
Kinda like Horror films. :smalltongue:

Demons have nothing to do with it. :smallannoyed:
.. Unless the song is about demons. :smalltongue:
Deppending on what the song is about, it expressing the inner rage, or the animal, or the monster, or the basic human instict to sometimes shout and sceam... And it sounds awesome.
And what you said isn't true at all, just because D&D and some other mythology may say it doesn't mean it's true, Demons arn't even real, it's only something some religions have made up to keep people in order, how do you know what they sound like?

Huh. Metal has depth.

Perhaps, but the vast majority of culture and mythology has them this way. You've got Loki, Hades, and just about all variations on the Christian Devil, at least.

If we're going to split hairs...
I said the very best. I mean, certainly your standard Balor might "Growl", but surely Graz'zt, Orcus, or Pazuzu wouldn't.
And the point stands with respect to devils.

So what? That's completely irrelevant.
And for argument's sake, we're not talk about the devil, we're talking about demons.

I was describing my experience with the subject. After all, that's what I based my opinion on.

Huh. I was unaware such a distinction existed outside of D&D. My apologies.

Demons are the ones just committing wanton slaughter and/or possession.
Devils are the ones making deals with mortals, usually asking for their soul in exchange for a comparably minor service that sometimes due to loopholes in sloppily worded contracts are reduced to nothing.
Today they're better known as lawyers.

In the 24th Century, money became obsolete.
More on topic: Did anyone write anything about the other Flying Landfish ethnic groups ? Because I wrote something that might be interesting, but I do not want to create a continuity error.
