Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
So is that it? Is thrash finally dead? Can I finally sleep safe in my bed at night?
I just noticed that Venom is still on the go. Huh. Didn't know that.
So I checked out Thawsunblat. And everyone was right, it is amazing. And I say that with no hint of irony. The music is so strangely uplifting. And I love the vocals, both clean and harsh. And to think I didn't even know of them.

Well, I just saw Pain of Salvation live in Chicago last night. My...life is now complete. Despite the sudden absence of their guitarist, and Daniel being ravaged by the flu (he was coughing pretty bad, and seemed on the verge of throwing up once) they put on an amazing show. Such a shame they had to cancel their next show because of his health, but I'm glad I got the chance. I may or may not have squealed like a fangirl when he came on stage and started singing Road Salt. :smalltongue: And the encore: No Way, but the venue turned all the microphones off, so the crowd provided the vocals! Great moment.
Not sure Holy Diver was meant to be a soft jazz song, though.
And kudos to supporting act Kingcrow. I'd never heard of them before, but they absolutely killed their set, and I will definitely look into them.

I had meant to give some money to the production of the Extreme Metal episode, since VH1 Classic decided that their viewership was too old and lame for such a thing to be profitable, but never got around to it. Ah well. It's a pretty good series as is, but it would have been better without the network meddling.

Hmm... Not entirely pleased with how 2013 is turning out metalwise. As always black metal is moving forward with its post rock and indie rock influences and turning out some good obscurities. You get the odd grindcore and powerviolence album from the likes of Iron Lung and Nails. But for the most part we've been pretty high and dry for some solid metal this year. Hell, even last year had Woods 5, the new Cannibal Corpse and some top tier metalcore (love you Converge).

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Some highlights of the year thus far...
Holy Grail's sophomore album Ride the Void was pretty phenomenal. It's not quite as good as its predecessor, but still great.
NWOBHM band Satan got back together after 25 years and released the best album of their career, Life Sentence.
While I suppose it's technically not new, Beyond Creation, one of the few Tech Death outfits who actually dare to be somewhat unique finally got a real label release for their debut album The Aura.
I'm also looking forward to the new releases from Amon Amarth, Iced Earth, Carcass, Artillery, and Judas Priest which are slated to come out later this year.
And of course, I always have some catching up to do with regard to the albums in a given year after the fact. Hell, I still have a few more albums to look into before I can be comfortable with my list for 2012.
