I gotta be honest. I almost went ahead and got it.
I am a big sucker for future games. My favorite BF is 2142. Then I heard that they actually let Dedicated servers be ranked (Why that was not always the case, I will never know...), then I saw their pick any perks/whatever they call it now. I fully admit, that almost drew me in.
Then I saw Planet Side 2, which is coming to Steam next Tuesday, a F2P game. Its a MMO-FPS game. I am currently in the Beta, and its a good game. There are some issues thats need to be worked out (weapons take way to long to unlock for example), but its solid.
I have been in battles with over 130 people over a single base. As much as I love futuristic games, I love huge battles as much. Squads are 12 men, platoons are 3 squads big. The maps are huge as well.
Its beta, but man, they do need some major work on the optimization, apparently they already put in some fixes in the last patch (I personally have not tested it). Its DX9 based, which saddens me, but oh well.

This was enough to make me want to try Black Ops 2.
Then I found out it has multiple endings, now I really need to try it...

I've been meaning to use my beta, but finding people to play with is annoying at best. Guess i'm just on the wrong server or something? Oh, whichfaction did you pick? I went with the purple alien tech one (Haven't llayed the game in a while, i've just given them nicknames) cause the Heavies look awesome for them. Plus hovertanks ftw.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
The new Blops game really is dang good. Taking into account the kind of game you are getting, it is actually VERY good. It also reminds me just how lucky I feel being a gamer this year. Some amazing titles.

My R/l friend helped introduce me to the game, so I have been playing with him and his outfit. If you want you can go ahead and add me on Steam, and I can get you an invite to the outfit. The beta closes on the 16th, so I don't know how much I'll play in the next two days.
Since he is Terran Republic, I went TR. Which is the Red faction. I personally would have picked the Vanu as well, but I wanted to join my R/L friend. The server I am on is the one that starts with Ly. Its on the West coast. I don't know if the servers will stay the same or not for release.

Good thing it has 18 configurable keys with three tabs for a total of 54 keys for every profile. Makes playing Dota so much easier.
Now I'm just jealous.

Too bad most games that support the LCD screen are also old now. But it's still funny to see the walker walk when loading a map.

Nah, my system's beefy enough to handle it. AC1 was just the first time interference became noticeable enough for me to need to do something about it. I don't have any real problems running F@H alongside TF2, for example.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
The Terran Republic gets seriously screwed over because of the UI.
Soldiers in red armor are allies, soldiers highlighted red are enemies. Soldiers wearing blue are the enemy, but blue icons on the minimap are friendly. Etc.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
That does seem like a problem. Would probably be very disorientating swapping from one race to another.
yay Vanu!

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Just my luck: I get my first hat drop ever, and it's a Sniper hat--one of my worst classes.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Could be worse. When they introduced item drops, the only hat I didn't want was the Trophy Belt, since I didn't like the way it looked, and I had a total of 3 hours played as Sniper.
My first hat drop was a Trophy Belt.
My second hat drop... was a Trophy Belt.
And this was in the days before they increased drop rates, and added trading or crafting. So they just sat there in my inventory for a year until trading was introduced.

This happens in Tribes Ascend as well, for the Blood Eagles. Your armor is red, enemy icons are in red. Enemy armor is blue, friendly icons are in blue.

It's worse in PS2 because friendly buildings show up as red, except for control points, which show up as either blue/purple for enemy, or green if they're friendly. So it's not just a disconnect between models and UI, the UI sometimes highlights things blue for friendly and sometimes red for friendly.

Saxxy's are up. Gonna be hard to choose, these things always amaze me.

As I play TR, yea...its bad. First time I started playing, I ended up with weapon lock about 2 hours in :smallmad:
Now I have yet to be affected by weapon lock, but I gotten close the other day.
(Weapon lock is when you damage Ally forces enough for the game to lock up every device, even healing for ~20 mins to prevent griefing)

Judging from the Trading thread, it was a Ritzy Rick's Hair Fixative. Also judging from the thread, he already traded it away.
I also have that "hat" if you are still interested.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Eugh why are the majority of all MOBA game players such utter ****s. After a single day of Dota 2 I might be done with it for good because it just brings up bad memories of the old dota community. Yeah I get it losing isn't fun but why does everyone rage when we start losing after the first 40-50 minutes of a one hour game the teams were neck to neck. Does no one enjoy fair games and only want to steamroll all day every day?
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
I never lose, the other team wins.

1. If you say MOBA or reference LoL in any way when playing Dota, you are going to get heat.
2. Losing a long game because someone overextended or didn't go back when told to do so or doing a stupid mistake that he should never make can be frustrating, especially when it is in a long game that was fairly even. Why ? Because it wasn't an obvious stomp and you had good chances to win if that event never happened.
3. Take a break and come back after a few days if you feel frustrated with Dota. It's a good game, and the community is not THAT bad compared to how it was back in the day (partially because you cannot simply abandon a game after first blood or because you think your teammates are idiots or because they built retarded subpar items).

Ah yes. The days when idiots/whiners would leave at the first sight of trouble. Not limited to: first blood, not being given a solo lane, dying three times (or less) consecutively, not being able to farm their Divine Rapier within 30 minutes, etc.
Yeah. Those were the days. :smalltongue:

That's why (with the recent wave of invites) we started small GitP group of new DotA players, so that everyone has roughly equal experience and no one has cause to rage :P
Although, yes, some ass raged at me for 'farming and not supporting' when I was just trying to get my last item, and when I did, my hero (good 5-9 levels higher than the other nine) pretty much disabled enemy base defence on her own, allowing our team to destroy every single building they had in 6 minutes :smallsigh:

I missed that, cause I have stuck to facing bots partly because I want to make sure I could hold me own and don't feel like being raged at cause I am still new. I'll be tempted to play a few games then.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Eh, we're mostly training on bots currently, too? Especially seeing many of us finds some heroes awful not exactly suited to our play style so we're trying to find a few good fits for now :smallwink:

That's mostly (or all) US players though isn't it?

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Practicing on bots is a good idea if you want to learn what some heroes can do, but ultimately will be annoying. Because bots cheat. Zeus likes to killsteal with his ultimate, even if he cannot see you farming in the forest, he will use it when you are low enough to die, they react faster than any human being when it comes to stunning you as your BKB runs out, and are fairly predictable overall.
Sharpening your claws into some other pubsters is the fastest way to gain actual skill in the game since they are unpredictable, make mistakes, they are humans (though you might debate it on a case by case basis).
